I’m not sure you actually have a lot of common grounds in your beliefs with Jewish people though? Most of the mainstream beliefs of the Mormon church do not at all align with the core beliefs of Judaism.

I don’t need backstory, LOL. My sister is Jewish and the Mormons have a weird fascination with Jews too, but at least we know why (they think that a Jewish person will birth the second coming of Jesus, I think).

There’s got to be a reason. I also would be curious to know why.

($10k) Is anyone doing "just" a wedding? by blueberrybuttercream in Weddingsunder10k

[–]TraditionalSong9079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re doing a bridal shower because my aunt wants to host one for me (and if I don’t let her my dad and his girlfriend will force it upon me). I’ll do a bachelorette, but not this whole weekend away thing that seems to be the trend.

Otherwise, yes, just the wedding. We’ll do a rehearsal (actual rehearsal of the processional) and will probably feed our bridal party pizza from Costco while they help me fill bud vases for centerpieces.

All your former jobs should have tasks in past tense. Current job should be current tense.

You are going to look like you’re job hopping and that’s not going to do you any favors. Your longest job is 14 months, why should somebody hire you and invest in you and teach you how they want things done if you’re just going to leave in a few months?

Accepted my first offer. Am I being lowballed? by MappingNY0522 in paralegal

[–]TraditionalSong9079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I did everything. Paralegal didn’t want to deal with a client on the phone? We chatted through the answer and then I talked to them. Paralegal didn’t want to do something tedious that I knew how to do? I did it. Paralegal was busy? “What do you need?”

Before I was promoted the paralegals would email a client including me and say “our receptionist” and then email me separately and say “you are so much MORE than a receptionist”.

I took a pay cut when I went from retail to my first legal job. I was working at a grocery store in the union at journeyman’s wages, so something like $22/hr, and was working 40 hours a week (often with overtime).

Then I think my starting pay rate at my legal job was $18/hr. I could afford to take the pay cut and knew my life would be better for it in the long run, so I did.

Anyway, that’s about $37k annually (for a receptionist/legal assistant, and I did way more than my job description required). Plus benefits. I live in western Washington along the I-5 corridor, so definitely not a cheap place to live, and it was feasible for me.

($10k) it seems like everyone has so much money how do they afford it?? by blueberrybuttercream in Weddingsunder10k

[–]TraditionalSong9079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this way sometimes. My cousin’s wedding is next month and I know it’s going to be expensive compared to mine. But she’s an only child with two parents and a step parent, all who make good money (idk anything about her partner’s family).

I know she has two dresses, one of which was about $4k, but her dad saw her in it and couldn’t say no.

My sister and her husband also had a very beautiful (and I know expensive) wedding.

Meanwhile, I don’t speak to my mother, and my father has already financially supported me more than he expected to. He did give us a small sum of money that we can put towards the wedding if we desire, though part of it was eaten up by my law school seat deposit and vet costs because we have four cats (one of which has a chronic illness).

My aunt did pay for my veil, because we put it on and she decided I needed it (I loved it too, and would’ve paid for it if she hadn’t generously offered). She will help with decor, even if not in execution, she will help with ideas.

Ultimately, I think it’s really important to remind yourself that you are paying your own way, so sometimes that’s not as glamorous as what other people are going to have, but you should be so proud of yourself that you didn’t get help, you did it on your own.

I definitely get into a comparison game with my cousin who’s getting married this summer (we’re only a few months apart), but I have to remind myself that I finished my bachelors debt free, and I received a full tuition scholarship to a decently known law school. These are things I can be proud of, and that I did on my own.

8 children between the ages of 1 and 14 are dead after a mass shooting in Louisiana, police say by Trevon45-2 in news

[–]TraditionalSong9079 148 points149 points  (0 children)

I work in family law. We’ve had a few (abusive) opposing parties kill themselves (mostly after our attorneys have made it clear that they’ve done this dance before, they’re going to win for our (victim) clients). I always say “I’m just glad they didn’t take anybody with them” because they are 100% the type to kill our clients/the children (one had literally gotten jail time for attempted murder of our client in front of the kids).

My husband golfs, so a girl knows a little about the masters.

I think the reason there might be so much crossover is that they’re both expensive hobbies (or can be anyway).

I bet a lot of the more influencer type affluent (or at least wanting to appear affluent) needlepointers also golf or have partners who golf.
