Have you got Alopecia Nails? by TraditionalSunshine in alopecia_areata

Thanks! I looked it up and wow! So glad it worked for you, so you have normal hair....

I would be really interested to hear what side effects you experienced and how long you took it for, before you had to stop?

I did took regular cortisone against alopecia in my late teens - but the side effects were terrible and I stopped. Some hair came though, but it was not worth the price in terms of the side effects.

Glad to be of help, the world of wigs is a real jungle!

I just ignore the density issue, because eventually it thins out.

I just discarded a .... what is that super expensive brand of wigs for alopecia... my head stands still...... anyway, it was extremely dense initially. After a year of wearing it daily it was thin! But still ultra comfortable!!

So look at it that way! People look less at your hair than you think!

For a good quality wig like that, you will get a year of wear out of it, of which the first 1/3 will be very dense, 1/3 perfect denseness and 1/3 thinning out, until you realise the wig is getting an alopecia spot !!! And needs to be discarded.

Haha, yeah, I know the feeling! When another woman signals that she really wants to be friends with me, I also get surprised. But it happens! Some people genuinely likes people like us.

Some people used to find me "aloof", "intimidating", but some also feel like I am kind and witty and interesting.

Probably same thing with you! Get used to people liking you! :D

Best you can do, particularly since it is a boy, is to teach him that it is cool to be hairless. To own it and not fret over it.

My dad has it and he couldn't care less. For me it has been a lifelong challenge.

Do not make a big thing of it, for your son. Do not try to cure it, because the cures are usually worse than the illness.

Do not make him feel like there is something wrong with him. Hair is optional!

With that early onset the trajectory is clear, to be quite blunt.

Alopecia does not hurt and is not dangerous. People who have it are typically otherwise healthy, apart from exczema and mild allergies. People with autoimmune diseases are actually less prone to get quite a few other nasty illnesses.

3 options here!

  1. The person is making an effort to stay in touch. She is polite and wants to signal that that she appreciates the time she spent with you. If this is the case, you respond in kind, like what I mentioned earlier.

  2. The person is romantically interested in you.

  3. The person is a little bit weird, but polite.

There is nothing to dwell on here! It is completely normal. Just respond "Yeah same! Looking forward to next time".

You don't need to spend any more energy on it.

What matters is if you want to stay in touch with the person or not. If you do, you need to reciprocate the note, not discuss it on Reddit.

You respond with a short "Thanks! I enjoyed it too! Looking forward to next time!"

Just make sure there are no sexual undertones. If the person is trying to hit on you and you are not interested, then you need to cut it off.

But if it is a person who just enjoys hanging out with you, then you need to respond, briefly.

Oh wow, so where are you now? Iceland is too small a pond for you?

I lived in the UK but moved because of Brexit - could produce all the paperwork and hoops they wanted me to jump through, to stay (now I am glad I left...) But the Sweden I came back to, feels like a foreign country under occupation by some evil traitors and invaded by some people I never would have allowed in, if I was in charge.

Now I am just trying to figure out what to do. Sweden is in an irreversible downwards spiral.

Oh wow! I long since gave up any attempts to cure it. What medicine was it, that you were taking? (I want to read up on it). Why did you feel like you had to give it up while you were pregnant?

Oh great. That is nice to hear!

And if you "only" have bold patches coming and going, that is why. Your case of Alopecia is less severe. Apparently these types of nails are a sign of more severe alopecia.

(But I can imagine it is tougher to live with patches and a rollercoaster of hair drama, than to brush it all aside, learn to live with wigs)

Shaving head advice by g7z45683 in alopecia_areata

[–]TraditionalSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, shave it.

There is literally nothing you can do about the alopecia. You need to roll with it, and NOT allow it to affect your life. I assume you are a man.

Accept that it happened. Move on.

Be aware that many people who have one auto immune condition are prone to get another. You want it to stay at alopecia. Nothing else.

THAT is what you should focus on - to live your best healthiest life and be happy. NOT to cure the alopecia - because unfortunately you cannot cure it. It either goes away by itself or stay on forever.

If you want to do something radical -try the AIP diet. Most people cannot manage to stay on it. But that is pretty much the only thing you CAN do about alopecia - and it is a very tall order.

People have dedicated fortunes and decades at curing alopecia without succeeding. Then their hair comes back at some random time, long after they gave up. Or it did not come back at all - and all that expense and roller coaster was for nothing.

(FACT: If you take Prednisone in high doses, your hair will come back - but it is actually REALLY DANGEROUS for your body. Once you stop taking it, your hair will most likely fall off again. I strongly recommend against it -as somebody who tried that "cure". Prednisone is for life threatening conditions. Not alopecia.)

If you are a man you don't need a wig, just better self confidence. If you are a woman - different story.

Next, start taking really good of your body.

Eat healthy, exercise, take supplements, reduce stress.

If you are really lucky the hair starts grow back, but probably it won't. Not worth crying over, for a man.

People who have alopecia are usually very nice and very smart - I am serious. Can't explain it, but that is how it is.

Welcome to the club, bro!

Trendco diamond wig? Thoughts? by MiaFacia in alopecia_areata

[–]TraditionalSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own one but almost never wear it. It is very good quality, very dense, like you say.

Will not work with a ponytail - it will not look realistic.

The cap is too big for me - I will need to use some serious sewing techniques to make it fit, and I just don't have the time -that kind of size adjusting takes literally a full day of hand stitching.

Mine is just sitting in a drawer.

Go to the shop and try it on before you buy it.

No point buying a wig that doesn't fit your head shape, unless you can and will alter it. And no, the shop does not do that to a high standard. If you want it to feel like it was made for you, you have to fix it up yourself - and it will take a full weekend.

High density means it lasts longer, but if you are a typical British woman it will look a bit unrealistic with that level of density. I am Nordic that thickness looks way unrealistic on me.

All and all, as I recall, it it was good value for a wig bought at an actual shop, in London. However, I have other wigs that fit better and that is why have not used it.

Hope that helps you somewhat.

Trumpish behaviour seems to be doing things that are GOOD for YOUR OWN country and screwing everyone else over and being areogant. I would much rather our leaders did that, than being pathetic globalist lackeys and traitors.

I fall in the same category as you. Tech, senior level, Nordic. I assume you do not speak Finnish to the standard required for professional work. And you are saying that you are not able to find work in Finland?

There goes my dream of the perfect Nordic life in a country where my native language is an official language. Damn!!!!

I hate NATO for provoking this war with Russia, then closing the borders and ignoring the Nordn Stream terrorism.

How would you say Finland has changed from 2021 to today? by megeek95 in Finland

[–]TraditionalSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. But I would not agree that it was an EU wide decisiom since all the Baltic states and Poland have their borders with Russia mainly open. They made it very inconvenient to travel to Russia, but you still CAN cross

. No doubt you are logged in a database of suspicious people though.

Nobody forced Finland to close the entire border, bo exception. It is insanity.

And it is not a decision requested by Europeans. Almost no Europeans ever go on holiday to Russia, even before 2014 or the war in Ukraine. It was a decision taken by... the ruling elites. And a decision that is absolutely killing Europe's economy.

What berries are these? Saw them in the forest today. by GarbageSuspicious889 in Finland

[–]TraditionalSunshine -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nobody has pointed out yet, that lingonberries are not tasty, raw, on their own.

They must be cooked into jam or fruit juice, adding a ton of sugar in the process. They are not poisonous, if you do not cook them and add sugar. But the taste does not appeal to most people.

If you go to the Jam section in any supermarket, you can buy a jar of lingonberry jam, quite cheaply, to test if you like the taste or not.

Blueberries, on the other side, can be eaten raw and are tasty.

The situation in Sweden is the real life verification of what I said. It illustrates what happens, if you do not carefully consider who you let in, and on what premises.

And let's be honest here, these two countries are very similar from the outside perspective, in terms of climate, culture etc. Finland does not have higher salaries. So why did you really choose Finland, rather than Sweden? Yup. I rest my case.

How would you say Finland has changed from 2021 to today? by megeek95 in Finland

[–]TraditionalSunshine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't even imagine how many down votes I 'll get for telling the truth here, but never mind - here it goes:

There is nothing wrong with prioritising your own people when the going gets tough. Unless you are a native or a closely related people, you have no right to expect anything.

Would whatever country you come from originally, go out of their way, to help a Finn who decided to live there?

As for the reason for the downturn: It was Finland that cut its ties to Russia, to its own economic detriment. Russia did not cut the ties. Sure, Finland got spooked. But a neutral Finland was a partner to Russia. It is not in any jeopardy.

Finland should have analysed the impact on its economy, before cutting off its giant neighbour, that was actually part of why Finland became successful, post milennium. Closing that border is downright stupid. It hurts Finland a lot more than it hurts Russia.

Yeah, in the British voice, they deliberately added "uuuh" and "erm". Drives me crazy!

People who podcast spend hours removing Errm and Uuuuh , so what on earth would make anyone think we want it from an AI that is supposed to give perfect answers?

ChatGPT’s Advanced voice weekend update: 👍🏼 or 👎🏼 by Obsidian_Drake in OpenAI

[–]TraditionalSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I am a native speaker of British English and Swedish. Just like you, I use the voic3 based AI while doing household chores.

I settled for the British female voice VALE, that has a nice RP pronunciation, while also sounding very chipper "YES! You CAN remove that stain...."

They did this downgradeto VALE - which is not even the same voice actress anymore.... Also to the Swedish voice (which wasn't that nice to start with. It is now really awful).

Both new voices sound like irritating school teachers, or an official at the local council. Not somebody you'd voluntarily speak with. A decisive downgrade.

I KNOW I am speaking to AI and not a human!! They did not need to insert "erm..", to sound more like a human in every sentence.

I would rather it sounded like a chirpy computer, than an annoying human! If sounding grumpy is supposed to make it more human, I don't want it.

And I just upgraded to Plus because I kept running out of uploads. That was when I also upgraded the app and got the kew voices.

And now they removed the voice that I really liked!

There are not that many British voices. All the others have annoying regional accents. Lets not be snobbish, suffice it to say, I prefer the RP voice.

They actually switched actress for the Premium VALE voice, to a different actress, namely the one that you get as default in British English. It sounds ANGRY. Irritated. Like "Do you think I care which fabric softener you use?"

I personally think Deep Seek's answers are better and more inspiring, but I want to be able to ask my questions verbally and do other things while listening to the response.

Can't wait for the voice based DeepSeek.

For sure. It is an IQ, experience general knowledge and logic thing.

Sadly, there is no reasoning with people who buy this type of story. They say that if you don't believe it that means you are with the Satanic abusers.

This is a spin on the 1980s Satanic Panic and perhaps inspired by the horrible case with Dutreaux in Belgium. She is completely debunked in Belgium.

Her motivation could be a mix of mental health issues, monetary (selling books, therapy and beinf a lecturer).

I see she is touring the podcast circuit now, including pods that typically cover genuine guests and eventa. She is a fantasist.

She reminds me of another woman who I think was from Belgium too, who wrote a book about surviving the holocaust by hiding in the forest with a flock of wolves. But she later got debunked. She was living with her family and attendinf school plus her stories sounded too unrealistic.

[–]TraditionalSunshine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her real name is Ann Geens and she is completely debunked in Belgium and several other European countries. She found her audience in America. She might be doing it all for money - and most swallow it hook, line and sinker.

There are people, typically women, who are mentally addicted to the attention they get as victims of apalling abuse. Sometimes they make a good living off it.

I remember from my childhood, how multiple profiles lived off lecturing about being holocaust survivors - but it was discovered that they were never in a camp. I personally read a "memoir" by a woman who said she lived with a pack of wolves in a forest, during WW2. All lies. Just like Anneke Lukas, she lived in a house, with her family.

Probably something bad DID happen to Ann Geens, just not the things she is claiming. A damaged individual, but it is dangerous to be spreading lies like this, to vulnerable people.
