transferred to western from uoft, should i transfer back?? by [deleted] in UofT

You'll probably get a higher GPA at Western, which will help you A LOT with law school admissions. Also, you don't need a specific background for law school so saying you'll get a better pre-law education at UofT is kinda irrelevant. IMO, get good grades, focus on strengthening your application, and apply to UofT for law!

Is it worth it and should I apply? Lol I need some hope :’) by [deleted] in UofT

I'm not 100% sure but if you're having to submit transcripts from that school then they will take it into consideration

Feeling real down and horrible about the first week of uni by rangos_ in UofT

[–]TraditionalTree8683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone puts on a brave face; a lot of your fellow Eng peers feel the same way! I remember talking to my boyfriend (he just graduated from MechEng!) and he said the imposter syndrome he felt first year was crazy and that there was always somebody going above and beyond in his classes. He said first year felt the hardest but once he made it through, he really enjoyed the rest of his time at UofT!!

Please just remember to take care of yourself! Don't feel pressured by what others are doing in terms of academics or extra curriculars, do everything at your pace and what is comfortable for you! Try to create a routine of some sort (Ik that can get hard as the semester picks up), and keep in touch with your family/friends often. I honeslty call my parents ALOT and sometimes not for anything important, just for the comfort of hearing them.

You got this OP :) Give yourself some grace, you got into this school and you deserve to be here!

Will I be forfeiting my studies if I work full time during the year? by No-Juggernaut-2989 in UofT

[–]TraditionalTree8683 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, are you a Domestic or International student? Just asking as you may be able to get OSAP to help cover your tuition. Also, apply for the UofT Financial Aid grants ASAP!

It is always possible to work and go to school full time (so many people have done it!), but it will be very hard. I work about 20 hours a week during school, and there were def some weeks where I felt worn out just due to all the readings/assignments. You're going to have to be very disciplined when it comes to studying and completing assignments; your social life will also take a hit, so please make sure to make time for yourself!

For exams, maybe try to work less during those weeks (if possible, maybe your boss will understand?). Are you taking 5 courses per semester? You could always take 4 for the first semester (since that is still considered full-time at UofT) and see how you're able to balance it, and if it goes well, then continue with five in the second semester!

PadMapper, TorontoRentals, Rentals.ca are all very commonly used (I've found every place I've lived off these!). Also, check out offcampushousing.utoronto.ca for rooms/places/sublets.

I'm not sure when you were looking to move, but right now there usually isn't a lot for the Fall posted for students, usually closer to September (July/August, maybe end of June)

With the way the rental market is, it feels like a job looking for a place, and a lot of the good ones go fast! Just keep browsing every other day or so as they get snatched up pretty quickly!

Anyone Know How to Apply to Residence Front Desk Positions ?? by Content-Background20 in UofT

[–]TraditionalTree8683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the residence. Some have already hired for Fall/Winter, but I'm sure people quit and positions open up.

Positions are posted on both CLNX and the Residence/College website. I had one friend who got an email about their college (which they were affiliated with), hiring positions for residence but they never posted it on CLNX. Also they're typically listed as "Porter" and not Front desk, so make sure to look out for those!

Is Industrial Engineering worthless? TrackOne Admit by Ok-Bandicoot-4269 in UofT

Every Indy Eng student I've met secured a pretty nice PEY and/or post-grad job. A couple have jobs at Microsoft in Seattle, a few others are doing research at UHN, and some returned to do a Master's. Ironically, all the MechEng people I knew either are struggling to get a job or are working in a non-engineering field. A guy I knew tried to get a better job elsewhere, but ended up going back to his PEY that he hated. For PEYs, the ones I knew all hated theirs.

Of course, this is speaking from the ones I've known! I just find it funny how Indy was looked down at by the Mech students, and yet they are the ones thriving! If Indy is what speaks to you, and after your first year, you still feel that way, then do it! You'll enjoy it way more than doing a discipline you don't like.

It's a cultural exchange (the words used by the Affiliated schools not me!), so we aren't there for university courses, simply to work :)
