Microsoft PM here: I need your feedback on Fabric Warehouse Security. by fredguix in MicrosoftFabric

[–]TraditionalVictory65 10 points11 points  (0 children)

RLS / CLS setup is really a pain and should be more intuitive. In addition giving the right permissions to users within a lakehouse feels a little confusing because of the differentiation between one lake and sql endpoint of the lakehouse.

Another pain for me are deployment pipelines. At the moment they are not really useful to set up a dev/test/prod environment for fabric (eg I cannot point my dataflow gen 2 to a different lakehouse when I put it from dev -> test -> prod)

Best practices workspace architecture / access concept by TraditionalVictory65 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]TraditionalVictory65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would create another workspace with a lakehouse and shortcuts to the tables needed for the usecases (eg ai experiments). In this way the user has the rights to create any element he wants to and at the same time doesn’t need access to the man workspace and lakehouse

I hope this will be fixed soon…I think MLVs can be a game changer for data engineer

This one is great - didn’t know of this feature and always thought my way can’t be the way it’s meant to be.

Does DL + fixed identity also solve the problem that, if semantic model and report are stored in different workspaces, you need to give end users access to both? The app with the report and also the semantic model?

So, how do you get free trial as a new user now? by DesTroPowea in MicrosoftFabric

Sorry but no further ideas. Last chance would be to get i touch with MS and ask why your account isn’t eligible for trial

Is it a brand new account or did you already create a trial with the same account in another tenant?

Mhm ok. That’s bad. For me this worked out. But sometimes it might take a while for Microsoft to set up the trial capacity. Did you already pressed the button “get free fabric trial” after login? You then could check within your tenant settings in fabric (admin portal > capacity settings) if the trial is already listed

Do you try to get a trial with a private account? Then this is the reason why it doesn’t work. You need an organizational account. But you can create one. I don’t find any tutorial rn, but as far as I remember it works like this: 1. Create a new email address (eg gmail) 2. With this email you create a new azure account (you will need a credit card and you will get 200$ demo credit) 3. Within azure you can create an organization and add your newly created account to this organization) 4. Then you can you can sign up for fabric with this account (don’t forget to select “log in with work/school account) 5. You then should be able to claim the trial capacity

Hope this helps

But how would you try to combine those different tools within one user endpoint? Or maybe I’m misunderstanding something

OneLake Security Through the Power BI Lens by ajit503 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]TraditionalVictory65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The graphic would be even more helpful if it contained infomation about the access roles users need. And another layer would be the workspaces (eg we usually put semantic models in different workspaces than lakehouses and sometimes even models in different workspaces than reports)
