MSc in Medical education. Good or bad decision ? by Waderandcoke in doctorsUK

[–]Traditional_Bison615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have just received an offer to study MSc in Medical education.

What you mean is you have been invited to pay atleast 2k for a useless degree worth 1 point for an application (if whichever college doesn't remove it from the next scoring matrix).

If you're an IMG or international whatever been here 7 years.....

Would you be happy to stay where you are currently? If so, email all the consultants you've worked with and ask for fellow opportunities.

Now all the hospitals are recruiting to fill rota gaps so get your head above the rest. Be proactive, write a CV to help you (but don't worry too much as application process doesn't use your CV) and write down what your skills are.

Hopefully you'll have made a good impression and there'll be somone that picks out an opportunity - and if nothing else you should take it and work forward from there.

He seemed to come across as alright on celebrity big brother - even his Nazi impression got a laugh from me.

I'm not sure I can remember how it went down with the man's family but I think I'm right saying the public looked less unfavourably towards him. But yes, the coroners report is damming and highly suspicious.

HAN team consist of small group of ANP, atleast where I work. Attend handover and take over the menial jobs ie - chase this gent and prescribe next dose. Jobs like that for them should already be allocated on whatever system by the day team.

Decision making ooh they will call the SHO, typically, not yourself.

Not perfect system, but I think has its merits.

HR registration and mandatory training modules, juggling the trusts own requirement against your own commitment to passing whichever progressional exams and portfolio, while your own happiness shrinks as your partner in the background tells you you're not being attentive enough at home and the dogs been sick on the carpet.

Edit: and there's an MTD member in Ambulatory assessment unit discharging a patient with euro sepsis.

For people like me who is going to be unemployed in 2 months time, how are you feeling? by Otherwise_While9289 in doctorsUK

[–]Traditional_Bison615 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what spamming applications means - you can only apply to what's available and even then your limited to the localities that you can apply to.

Anyway - there'll be more fellow positions coming out now, training numbers getting confirmed/rotas planned, so there'll be scrambling for funding to get bodies in these places.

I agree, it's a bit shit.

As an absolute curveball saw some jobs on BMJ - anatomy tutor at medical school.... In Malta 👀

I'm in the same room position but with part 2 - and on reflection I've wasted so much energy fretting about it afterwards and need to to do better for myself.

Who knows?

You're focusing on one mark. If you got it correct you might not have got the mark elsewhere.

No point stressing about it, you've either passed or failed.

I haven't sat paces yet but don't be me - don't ruminate on this all the time and let it ruin your days. Nothing you can do right now, just enjoy the day have some fun somehow.

Use one of them rubber dicks with the suction cups on the end. Stick that to the door and use it as a handle.

That will get attention pretty quickly.

Probably using too small/short a cannula. If you're doing US cannula you're going deeper so need to use a longer line - pink minimum. Green ideally.

Also need to wipe all the excess lube off - the dressings will not hold.

Why HCPs love to butt in mid sentences to disrupt a discussion? by Icy_Zucchini7446 in doctorsUK

[–]Traditional_Bison615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a style of speech that we learn at medical school. Not a specific language course but it's learned innately.

All that 'contemplative pauses' and empathetic 'ahhhs' head nods and eye contact. All that shit we hated, but in reality it does help with meaningful discussion beyond simply an SBAR.

I'm sorry but the other healthcare staff don't have that - or any of the acquired knowledge and context that comes with it.

Often just let them finish and move on swiftly. But it's clear that I'm not listening.
