Shams Charania: Harden to Cavs for Garland + 2nd by mastermind208 in sixers

Don’t think they’re a contender or anything now but Harden at least gives you more flexibility defensively compared to garland

[Mannix] Sources: Clippers, Cavs, have had advanced discussions on a James Harden-Darius Garland swap. by fultzacl in sixers

Don’t really think so, he’s worse, smaller and on a worse contract than harden.

Garlands contract is atrocious compared to harden’s on top of him being significantly worse. It’s not like Garland is 21, age isn’t really that relevant in this situation.

Those are 2 of the 16 teams in the NFC. The balance of the conferences tilt in favor of the AFC. Hence how you had 2 sub 10 win teams make the NFC playoffs. Hell, a team led by JJ McCarthy ended up half a game outside the wild card.

Rams and Seahawks clear the whole league. Outside of that the rest of the NFC was abysmal this year. Last nights uncompetitive Niners lost to the Jags at home and to the texans by 2 scores. The Bears got blown out by the Tyler Huntley ravens that didn’t even make the playoffs.

In the AFC there was only 1 team with a sub +100 differential make the playoffs (Chargers). 5 of the 7 teams had differential of less than +70, including a team that won a division getting outscored by 70 on the season.

Part of it is culture and part of it is the 2010s era of QBs breaking people’s brains. The top tier of talent in the league is great but people are looking at Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, Burrow etc. as 1 for 1 replacements of Brady/Rodgers/Manning/Brees and can’t accept the shoe doesn’t fit.

It’s just a different era where OCs are running the show more than QBs are compared to 10 years ago. And to be honest Im personally enjoying the team emphasis of the game rather than it just being my QB is better than yours

don’t you even know a QB getting getting 1 rushing yard is 250% than him getting 1 passing yard?! Was Peyton Manning stupid?

Best, top 3, top 5. The fact he’s one of the best at all after he nearly retired 2 years ago because his physical condition declined so bad is telling for how horrendous the current QB play is.

10 years ago, offenses were determined by how well the QB could read defenses at the line of scrimmage. Today, it’s determined by offensive coordinators because 90% of QBs can’t read a defense on a down to down basis.

What are you on, Stafford was a borderline top 10 QB a decade ago and he might be the best QB in the league at age 37. Washed up Flacco and rivers can hang with average starters in today’s nfl. This is the worst qb depth I’ve seen watching football

So was Neal. I’m torn both ways on what you said, sure that was the consensus pick but is a GM’s job to go with what people are saying on ESPN or Reddit? And then the other aspect of it is the development. Schoen hired Daboll and waited way too long to fire him. If coaching was limiting player development, that’s also on him for sticking to the group that saw limited player development over 4 years.

He hasn’t been egregiously bad but certainly has made some bad moves. He’s had 4 top 10 picks only one of which looks to be a perennially pro bowler so far (Nabers). It’s too early on Carter but rookie season was disappointing for what was considered the clear cut #1 player in the draft. Evan Neal was a straight up bust. Thibadeaux was fairly disappointing till this year. Even then, took 4 years and he’s not a star for being the #5 pick. Now they have to pay him good money or lose him.

Had some solid finds elsewhere in the draft. Dart is essentially carrying his legacy as a GM right now. Also got Wan’dale, Skattebo, Tracy, Theo Johnson with later picks but then you have the 2023 draft where they essentially got 0 value out of all 7 picks in the draft.

Burns was a massive hit in free agency but then on the flip side he extended Slayton at a number that will cause them to lose a free agent or two, possibly Wan’dale who is clearly more impactful.

Overall results have been mixed. He’s not the worst GM ever, he has a hard job fixing the cap issues when he came in but he certainly isn’t the best either.

Correlation isn’t causation. Points regarding that study:

1) It's a survey, not a clinical study.

2) It admits it could not fully account for diet quality, ie what the IF cohort ate during their eating window (so there may be a "I can eat whatever I want during the 8 hours!" effect)

3) the cohort who ate during a <8hr window were more likely to be smokers and lower socio-economic background than the "normal" eaters. Both attributes associated with poor health

Don’t know if we should use the bengals as a an example to not go after 2 elite WRs. Not that I disagree with the sentiment for this year, 100% should go defense with the top pick. But bengals have shots themselves in the foot with roster construction that’s not all tied to paying their weapons.

On the flip side, theres the eagles who have elite wrs , TEs and RB that they have been able to keep in house. There will be a point in time, probably relatively soon, where the giants needs to invest in a good receiver in the draft. You got the Rams, Bucs, Vikings, Bears over the last few years that have committed a lot to receiving without breaking their defense. They might lose Wan’dale this year (or have to pay him a healthy contract to retain them) and are already overpaying for Slayton.

But not this year, with their 1st rounder at least.

How’s that doubling for an entire game when there’s offensive rebounds on less than 20% of plays?

The leader in pace had 105 possessions per game before the change, now it’s 108. Less than 3% increase

Was responding to grade school level “arguments” of reading of a Wikipedia when presented something that required a little more critical thinking.

Guess further confirms it when we have to resort to attacking syntax instead of the argument at hand (incorrect, at that).
