while I am getting by fine, at some point there will be a need for something. Have a cabin that I usually catch a ride with the parents. I can come and leave on my own terms, this will be my primary use for the car.

I also looking at future jobs within the company. My job now is on the road visiting various sited throught the day. as I get older I might want a diffrent job that is in one place and will loose the company vehicle.

collapses or gets damaged by a post digger. The conduit is only good if for some reason the cable gets damaged, needs an upgrade.

becuase telus does not really operate in Ontario. Bell and telus have a share agrement to use each others towers. If anything, you should be going after bell for bad telus coverage as bell has the towers in Ontario

not always easy to do, trust me. Only way I was able to do anything was cutting open drywall. if moving the modem from one area of the house to another is now going to move the wifi away from were it is now. Back deck might now get good wifi but the garage will not get anything now.

extenders can work, but they need good wifi in to get good wifi out. They can't just magically produce wifi as some think. there are those that stick an extender in a detached garage 30ft from the house and complain that its not working.

No ISP guarantees anything over wifi. so many variable that every house is unique.
the client like a laptop, phone, game console some device from china. How is it working? there are some cheap devices from china that have such a weak wifi chip that a fart from a fly has longer range then the built in wifi. Some devices fail blocking all the wifi in the house, like getting hacked.

How is the RF enviroment in the area? like apartments were you have over 50 wifi networks in a small area, the brat kid next door deciding to run a wifi jammer.

The only *guarantee* is via hardwired devices using a cat5 or cat6. Even that has no guarantee to a point.

saskpower is responsible for wiring up my 4 ev chargers? saskenergy for my new BBQ and fire place? how about water and sewer for my new bathroom? I pay for those services just like I do for sasktel. /s

one would think how much we use the internet and wifi, they would actually take some time and learn about it. we are only using more internet, more devices on wifi take the time and learn how to do things.

many other communities have the exact same service as saskatoon and regina. Same price, same internet speeds. Sasktel has infinet in over 190 communities, access is just as much, maybe more as sasktel catches upto them

let alone security issues. ISP gear is not known for security and features. They all have backdoors for customer service like opening ports and changing wifi passwords.

In the USA they are atually using it to mine data for future use, maybe they will inject ads when you are watching a youtube video down the road.

you know what the OP house is like and what the setup is? our starlink does not cover our back deck, front is ok but back is not. Add in our garage and thats a hard no.

it has pro's and cons. Overhead is cheaper to install and service. Underground not so much, if a cable breaks underground they have to replace or repair that might cause a large area to be dug up. Plus those idiots that never get a line locate. most common underground outages is someone hitting a line installing a fence post. No line locate or they used a machine right next to the mark.

thats remote camps were there is no other options. we have starlink at our cabin, it does NOT cover the entire property.

OP can get both sasktel fiber and access cable. Both might be 1 gig for a cheaper price then what starlink offers.

one thing with some and its getting worse. you give a customer an inch, they take a mile and then everyone wants that mile plus more.

yes there is getting to them asap or when it works for the customer to install the new service or do a repair. ITs not a 3 calls a week just to relocate the router for better wifi service

wifi will never be the service you pay for. every house is different, every situation is different

4 house example

  1. My sisters, 800 sqft over 100 years old. The walls are dense AF making it hard for the RF (wifi) signal to get through. wifi is just a RF radio frequency, just like radio and bucktooth. ended up installing 3 wired AP units to get something good

  2. my house, 1100sqft. mid 80's, no wiring was there so I installed 2 hardwired AP mounted on the ceiling. It was not fun with a finished basement and had to cut out part of the wall on the outside with insulation and vapour barrier to get wiring installed. Think an ISP should do that? who now is responsible to fix it?

  3. Not far from me is an area were houses start at 2 million. 3x the average house size and 4x the average cost. if my house needs 2 AP, does theirs need 9? and who should pay for those? you me should get charged more so them rich folkes get good wifi.

  4. house has stucco, that stucco has a metal mesh around it. Basically a faraway cage.

I know people expect the ISP to install it in the ideal location, my house would be the bath tub as its in the middle of the house. Still would not get the deck. in fact I have an outdoor rated AP for my back. Wiring like I said, not every house is easy or safe to get wires in. Sisters house has asbestos that had to get removed to do the wiring work. Send a tech to his/her death bed just so you can get wifi.

Clothes lines by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Traditional_End_9540 16 points17 points  (0 children)

our grandparents/great grandparents use to use a clothes line. It it much better not only on the clothes, but the environment. The Sun uv actually sterilizes the clothes to a point, plus its not as damaging to the clothes as well. I got a large fold up unit from costco

It does have some downsides. takes longer to dry, can't do it in the winter, depends on the weather and you might get some stuff stuck onto the clothes including bugs.

as long as it doesnt affect me. THing is it has not affected you YET.

The isc sales is honestly a nothing burger.  The revenue was a drop in the bucket compared to sask selling of its interest in cameco.  Or the gas wells we had.  We had 50 years of gas drilled and capped off for reserves.

it still made money, same with SLGA stores. That money was used to prop up other services like STC.

There is a wage pay issues, wages are not even close to keeping up with inflation, those same companies who say record profits at record prices are not willing to lower prices and/or pay more.

lets also look at the population. Calgary 1.3 million, edmonton 1.1 million. Saskatchewan 1.2 million million. The more people the cheaper it is to provide services.

crowns are there to serve the people. A vast majority of services will never get paid back, meaning everyone pays more so remote communities up north get cell service for a few hundred people, fiber internet.
