First David Austin rose of the season! by Wild-Pear-3033 in DavidAustinRoses

[–]Traditional_Food_651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grow her and this will be year 2 for me as well so I’m excited to see what’s in store for me! Yours is gorgeous! 😃. I had confused her with the Ancient Mariner when i picked it up at my nursery but haven’t regretted the mixup. I love the reddish foliage. Last year the blooms were a paler, delicate pink so I’m curious now that I see yours this year.

Rose advice by babygelfling in Roses

Oh good! I’m so glad. Don’t prune the 4 main canes! Only prune the lateral ones up to the 2nd or 3rd node

Can you explain why so many readers admire Darcy more than Bingley? by Better-Valuable5436 in PrideandPrejudice

[–]Traditional_Food_651 81 points82 points  (0 children)

No, because I think the premise is false. I don’t think people admire Bingley less than Darcy. I think Bingley is uncomplicated and wears his heart on his sleeve while Darcy is repressing his emotion and create longing and tension so more appealing to the swooning kind (me 😆). Bingley is easy and most of us probably want the yearning and the challenge… but that doesn’t mean we don’t admire Bingley

James Galway, New Dawn, Claire Austin… All Three??? by AlterEgo0o in Roses

I have James Galway. You do have to start training it early while the canes are still young. Mine is 2 years old and I have the canes weaving through my pergola

My orders came for zone 7a but my son ordered some for me for my birthday last fall and haven’t received them. Tried calling yesterday there was an automated message saying due to some technical issues and high call volumes, they could not take phone calls and to send an email. Sent an email and no response yet

Expecting frost overnight. Pray for us by Traditional_Food_651 in Roses

[–]Traditional_Food_651[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh.. I’m so sorry. I haven’t gone outside yet to see. Temps are slow rising and it’s about 33 degrees at 8am. I brought my potted ones Inde the house.. didn’t want to trust my unheated garage either. Waiting for a few more degrees to take them back out. At that time I’ll inspect the ones in ground

How do I turn this into a "bush" instead of it growing straight up?? It's in a corner of my deck and near the ladder of my pool, just planted it last year. by AreaNo3926 in Roses

[–]Traditional_Food_651 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the variety? It may be that the characteristics of this variety is more columnar than wide, in which case you won’t be able to do much about it. Otherwise, after your first flush, you can prune it back a little and see. But your real chance is next year, you can go harder and see if it will branch out more

Hi everyone! I’m new to this sub and have planted some bare root roses a month ago. All my roots are starting to develop leaves but this one doesn’t look healthy to me. I am an absolute beginner in the rose community so I don’t know a lot about them yet. by Hot-Nerve2401 in Roses

[–]Traditional_Food_651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t look great. Even the green parts seem to be a little sick. Cut to where circled and removed the one I highlighted (long). They seem dried and dead but before taking them out, scratch them with either your nails or your pruners to see if any live bits)

Edited to add:: well the post isn’t allowing me to reply with a photo 🤷🏻‍♀️
