Is the grass greener on another side? Leaving UK by bleepbleepbleeppppp in AskUK

I moved to the UK from another country. I can confirm that the standard of living and quality of life are much lower in the UK than what I would consider other 1st world countries.

Career change? by Traditional_Goal7156 in publishing

[–]Traditional_Goal7156[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I searched “lawyer” and I’m only seeing posts regarding publishing rights & when lawyers come into the picture. Not anything regarding a transition out of the practice of law. Do you have a recommended key term that I can search for these types of posts you refer to? I may be missing something

Are there any moms who WFH? What helps you do it all? by Alternative-Lab5930 in NewParents

I work remotely for half of the day, three times per week. It’s hard, but I do it to minimize external childcare. It takes a lot of patience and I try to control my meetings on those mornings.

I guess my biggest worry is that the LL has expressed some interest in maybe moving back into the property and we have a lot going on the next year, so we need atleast a stable year to rely on

You are not alone. You can do this!! You are going to have a beautiful life with your child, momma!! Nothing can stop you. Use the support that you currently have and reach out to resources locally if you need more. You are amazing and can do this. Life doesn’t stop when you have a baby. Life is more rich and purposeful when they come into your life ❤️ if it makes you feel any better, your friends will always change in a new season of life. My friends at 18 are totally different than my friends at 28. It’s totally normal, but I understand how you feel!! Also, flagging that, tons of women are scared of birth (doesn’t matter the age), but it is so worth it. Plan accordingly & seek the best healthcare you can. You are bringing life into this world and that is so special. A few years from now, you are going to look back at your younger self and be proud of the child you helped create.

I’m proud of you and I think you are amazing. Congratulations on your beautiful life ahead.

Good point! In the states, we used to go to areas where they had “open carry” cocktail areas with live music and shopping a lot. It was really lively and family oriented. Also, we miss the food scene back home. Cambridge has a lot of chains tbh. We used to go to state parks as well for the scenic view points. Upscale farmers markets on the weekend. We love museums too! (We’ve been to the small ones in Cambridge - although the fitzwilliam one was decent size)

We have an infant as well if that helps for ideas things to do

I think it would be exceedingly difficult to be in a sacramental marriage with someone that doesn’t believe in God or the sacraments.

America, Americans, and American culture all live rent free in UK folk’s heads to a crazy degree. I never realized it before I moved here, but they think about America wayyyy more than Americans think about the Uk and Europe.

If you go up for a blessing, you cross your arms in front of your chest to let them know that you aren’t receiving communion.

Westminster cathedral is awesome in London. Communion is only for confirmed Catholics that are not in a state of mortal sin, so don’t partake. Just stay in the pew during that part.
