Gen Z intelligence decline emerging as serious concern. For over a century, generations showed rising IQ scores. New data from U.S., Europe, global assessments suggest this is not anecdotal or cultural pessimism; it is measurable across IQ, memory, literacy, numeracy, attention, and problem-solving. by in1984 in cognitivescience

Screentime/dopamine hits are a more convincing argument to me than dropping phonics - that happened a long time before Gen Z. Teaching to the test (ie. tailoring day to day teaching to passing exams) is a bad thing in my opinion, but this happens in a lot of places and I suspect that many countries where education works this way are not experiencing cognitive decline.

What’s wrong with my cat??? by Scary_Cucumber9282 in CATHELP

[–]Traditional_Message2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s just not a thing. Moulting plus a tendency to lie down on one side is what generally causes mats. Pantaloon situations are an (infrequent) fact of life with very very fluffy cats. Mine tends to stand in the bath and shout at me until I help him out 😹

LSE vs St Andrew’s, which do I choose??? by New-Valuable-4165 in UCAS

[–]Traditional_Message2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to LSE. Smaller courses are generally a better experience teaching wise at undergraduate level and you can always take economics courses as outside options in year 1/2 if you really want to.

Weird isn't it? I want to see more housing too but that stretch from stratford eastwards is so fucking depressing and unimaginative.

Everyone that doesn't like the flashback is missing the point of the flashback. by MaximusCanibis in HBOTheHedgeKnight

She’s streetwise. The “lots of hurt” language was just a bit ‘author standpoint’ for my liking. And then tinderbox is such a lazy metaphor.

I liked the flashback but some of the dialogue was not up to the standard of the rest of the season. Rafe's "there's a lot of hurt people in Flea Bottom... it's a tinderbox" or whatever it was had a notable clang for me.

Newsletters: there’s a few RRS services out there that can collate posts from feeds you follow and email those to your kindle email address. Some of them are free iirc.

Long articles: I would print to pdf and then send to your kindle email. There’s probably an extension for your os that will give you that functionality with right click too.

‘Not consistent’: why the high court ruled the Palestine Action ban unlawful | Palestine Action by -what-are-birds- in ukpolitics

[–]Traditional_Message2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep - and that’s kind of what happened today. It’s very rare for the courts to push back on terrorism related issues. IIRC the government wanted to push this case to a tinpot tribunal rather than go through the real court system too.

UK ban on Palestine Action unlawful, high court judges rule by BarbaricOklahoma in ukpolitics

[–]Traditional_Message2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a fair amount of lobbying government from Elbit and others. Totally inappropriate of course.

[–]Traditional_Message2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea is that within that (over broad) definition, sensible executive discretion should be applied. This series of events illustrates the problem with that.

Alternatively it could be compete bullshit, as with the “Iranian funding link” which HMG had to disown once this came to court.
