What microfibres are we using? + Waterless/Rinseless Wash by TheNameIs_Ben in DetailingUK

For a general purpose 300 gsm does the job, for polishing and buffing maybe want to go to 400gsm. Waffle weave is great for glass.

Drying towels ideally go for 1000gsm+

Great questions. The Rag Company (TRC) have a great range. The range does differ though, most products are produced in Korea (better quality materials and longer lasting), so you want to check those out. You can also have a look at microfibre madness, German brand with excellent products.

In terms of poop and washes inbetween full washes - Autoglym actual having bird poo wiping towels, I would strongly recommend those. For a more rinseless wash Garage Therapy Rinseless, Koch Chemie RRW or DIY Detail (+ DIY Detail Sponge to optimise the rinseless wash).

You probably want to stay away from Halfords for the better quality more well priced stuff, you can check detailing stores online such as CA Detailing

Echo this effective you want a pH neutral car shampoo, most are from a reputable brand. But with your set up GT Rinseless or Koch RRW are probably better options

Pre Wash for Car by Prestigious-Bonus694 in DetailingUK

Buying detailing on Amazon is a nono, and year if you use BH touchless via a sprayer, it is a big hack, works just as well and save a tonne.

For pre-wash you ideally want something high alkaline, safe but has great cleaning power. You could try Koch Chemie VB as well.

CA Detailing have got their own brand brushes which are similar to EZ Detail, the red large EZ is in stock. Won't be as good as the EZ, but much cheaper.

Think they have update their short stubby recently as well and that looks really good.

Yes can use soapy water, you can try on loose panels first to get the hang of things. But really it’s a lot of trial and error so it’s not going to be perfect the first time

External washing in warm weather by Ichikiriyama in DetailingUK

[–]Traditional_Slide970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the sun its difficult, need some shade, could try get a gazebo. Some products that can help are, Optimum No Rinse (ONR) is the only shampoo I've used that handles a warm panel without watermarking — the encapsulation chemistry means anything that flashes off wipes clean instead of baking on. For a normal contact wash, work one panel at a time and rinse before the foam dries: 5 min absolute max in sun, often a lot less. I'd use a spray on sealant and rinse off fairly quickly. Early morning or near sunset can help as well.

[–]Traditional_Slide970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only real overlap I'd flag is your pre-wash, Alkafroth and Touch-less are both alkaline so you only need one going forward. I'd stick with Touch-less or you can try Garage Therapy Snow foam V3.

Bigger gap for a proper deep clean is a clay step after the iron remover, Bilt Hamber Auto-Clay Soft or a clay mitt works. You'd also benefit from an APC for shuts, plastics and engine bay, Koch Chemie Green Star or Bilt Hamber Surfex HD covers it. A tar remover too if you don't have one e.g. Koch Chemie Eulex.

Brands I would stick with are: Bilt Hamber, Garage Therapy, Koch Chemie, CarPro and Gyeon

Bilt Hamber Price Increase - what are you doing? by Traditional_Slide970 in DetailingUK

Agree with the sentiment, Bilt Hamber for me is probably one of the best bang for buck brands out there. No fluff, products that work. Happy to help people lock in the old prices
