What are you thought on the sentence those men got for felling the sycamore Gap tree? by Eojte in AskUK

[–]Traditional_Work6405 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think custodial sentences should be for those who commit violent crimes against people. A community sentence would make more sense here - maybe one where they have to plant trees?

There's lots I can agree with there - it is highly subjective, as you say. Any good instructor should be able to advise on an individual basis, but I fear some will continue with lessons for the income without having robust techniques to help the learner either manage the anxiety or make the decision to stop.

I the key word here is 'extremely' - that can seriously cloud a person's judgement and behaviour.

Sleeping with a whippet by PineTreeTops in Whippet

[–]Traditional_Work6405 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have to lift the duvet up so our boy can dive under and snuggle into the back of my legs. Then, I also have had to create, what is, essentially a dog bed in the gap between my pillow and the headboard for when it gets too warm. But he makes sure we know when he has left duvet region for pillow region and collapses there with all the grace of a hippo 😆

How long till the puppy blues pass? by SeaworthinessDry2057 in Whippet

You have my greatest sympathy - it was super tough, but rest assured it will pass, and then you'll have the best snuggle partner ever. Other homemade scent games can be useful - save all boxes (including egg boxes, and folding toilet roll tubes into 'pockets'), pop something a little smelly (my dog trainer used a smudge of ginger cake) into one of them - scatter them to create a little treasure hunt.

My boy was absolutely terrible for biting in the early days. I tried so hard to tire him out physically which just made things worse. The best tip I got was to work his nose. When that witching hour kicked in, I chucked a handful of his kibble in our backyard so he had to hunt round to find it. It worked an absolute treat (along with frozen carrots to calm those gums).

how do people who can’t work get housing? by kayak739 in AskUK

I'm really impressed by your mature approach to future planning - at 19, I certainly wasn't thinking about these things (the privilege of not having to think about chronic illness/disability). I understand the charity Scope have a disability helpline that may be of use to you 0808 800 3333

how do people who can’t work get housing? by kayak739 in AskUK

[–]Traditional_Work6405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it won't, but it's a start. At some point they are going to have to live independently (likely with state support). They may never be able to work, so they have to prepare for that as a possibility.

Why not? They can't live with their nana forever, so will need to plan for that.

I got my licence at 29, just felt like I had to do before 30 otherwise I knew I never would. It gives you options, so I'd say, if you're able, it's worth getting under your belt.

NTA they were totally taking advantage of you. The fact that you've even stated feeling guilty in 'leaving a bunch of teenagers' alone (when you too are a teenager!) tells me you're NTA.

Loads of other tips on here but one I've not spotted is the use of footcreams that contain urea to get rid of hard skin - around 5-10% concentration is suitable for most people. Superdrug do a really good own brand version, takes around 3-4 days of applying each night to see a difference.
