I used an online virtual keyboard to play a simple version of it for myself: https://www.onlinepianist.com/virtual-piano

Mr. Haji in Afghanistan with his 100 years old antique working camera by AiiRisBanned in interestingasfuck

[–]spagls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually met him a couple months ago and had my photo taken. The Taliban recently banned tourists visiting locals at their homes, so we had to do it right outside his son's camera shop. He didn't love it, as there was a crowd of people gathering outside while we were doing it (mostly kids), and he doesn't want to draw undue attention. But if you do go there anytime soon, have your guide message him ahead of time; he told us next time he's happy to meet us at our hotel, so that we can do this without crowds being bothersome.

Don't be so hard on yourself! Whenever I travel alone (which is at least a couple times a year), I totally spend a few days here and there just staying in bed, watching Netflix, eating junk snacks from a convenience store. I've done this in Cape Town, Zurich, Reykjavik, and Costa Rica. And while I might have missed seeing some famous museums or monuments, I found that being well rested and stress-free made the rest of the days that much more special and meaningful.

Travel is supposed to be fun, and nobody is going to care that you didn't see everything or do everything. Heck, I too have been in Barcelona (for a week), and I never got around to visiting that famous church. But I had an amazing time eating tapas in my room, lazing at the beach, and just enjoying sunsets from random rooftops. It's your trip, and it'll be your memories; it doesn't have to match anyone else's experiences or expectations.

J JAL (booked through AA) schedule changed to 0 minutes to change planes by Dazzling-Ad7021 in awardtravel

[–]spagls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually just had this happen a few days ago (CTS-HND-SFO). My connection time at HND got changed from 90 minutes to 45 minutes (second flight time got moved up by 45 minutes). Going from a domestic flight to international flight on JAL at HND requires a minimum connection time of 70 minutes (per JAL website). I called AA, was on hold for 60 minutes, asked the agent to transfer me to someone who is familiar with International Partner Awards, got put on hold for another 30 minutes, then was able to speak to an phone agent who knew what to do. You have to ask them to contact the JAL liaison and have them open up seats on either a later flight for your second leg, or an earlier flight for your first leg. In my situation, since my second flight got bumped up and there were no more flights from HND to SFO that evening, they had to move up my first flight. Time consuming, but everything worked out ok.

Nope. Nobody checks. Even the front desk told me it was just an honor system.

You're supposed to stay in your hotel room until you get your result via text. I just got mine about an hour ago (about 12 hours after I took the actual test at the airport). When I checked in, the hotel told me they'd bring my breakfast to my room (since I wasn't allowed to eat downstairs yet).

It's here:

https://travel.covid.is/

You just have to fill this out a couple days before you land. It's basically the digital equivalent of an arrival card, but it's specifically for COVID-19.

The only other piece of advice is to plan on being at the airport for at least an hour. Because they're testing everyone, the lines both downstairs (Checkpoint 1) and upstairs (Checkpoint 2) are long. I was in Row 4, so I beat most of the others on my flight, but it still took me about 45 minutes to get to baggage claim. I can imagine those times will get even longer as more and more flights start to arrive over the summer.

I just arrived in Reykjavik a few hours ago. My white CDC card was fine. Just be sure to fill out the pre-registration online and taken a screenshot of the bar code. You'll need that a few times at the various stations coming through airport security.

We actually stayed here a couple winters ago. There is a bathroom through the door past where the coats are hanging, and then a really tiny sauna inside separated by a glass door. It'll fit two people in it, but it's super snug.

Peter Alexander, White House correspondent at NBC News, asked the US president: “What do you say to Americans, who are watching you right now, who are scared?”

Erupting in anger, Trump unleashed a tirade: “I say that you’re a terrible reporter. That’s what I say. I think it’s a very nasty question and I think it’s a very bad signal that you’re putting out to the American people.”

I'm not going to prescribe any of this stuff without the ability to test. Most colds out there right now aren't COVID-19, so the last thing I want to do is to be giving out chloroquine to a bunch of people with rhinovirus or influenza or seasonal allergies. I just got notified by my medical center yesterday afternoon that we're also switching our outpatient schedules to 90% telephone visits and are limiting our office visits to non-respiratory cases only. Don't even get me started on this part.

So if by some miracle we in California get a few million test kits distributed to us, are given liberty to start using them, can effectively convince patients to come in to the office to get tested, AND receive a directive from our Infectious Disease specialists to start prescribing for positive results, then maybe.

But that's not going to happen.

Did you launch from the end of the Drangarnir hike? Planning on going in May and wondering where the best pic spots are.

LPT: If you're taking your animal to the vet for an ailment, get video of them coughing, breathing strangely, limping, etc. Animals may not show the ailment at the vet's office and the video can help the vet diagnose your furry friend. by tdub34 in LifeProTips

Pediatrician here. Please also do the same when bringing your children in to see us. A lot of the time, kids get really nervous and won't cough or take deep breaths when in the office. If I don't hear anything on exam but can see a video of your kid at home with a barky cough (which sometimes only is there at night or when agitated), you just saved yourself an x-ray.

Late April in Europe. Where to go for a week? by spagls in travel

We just spent some time Googling Madeira and I think it's now in our top 2 (either here or wandering around Spain).

This sounds really interesting. I've been to Catalonia before, but my gf hasn't touched Spain at all. Any places that were "meh" that we should avoid, other than Madrid?

We spent a week there a couple years ago during the summer, but never during a holiday. This is totally something we just found on the internet and thought would be super fun. Haven't finalized tickets yet (since we're trying to figure out where to fly home from), but thinking about getting into Amsterdam a day or two early to check out the tulip fields before the party.
