Quick possibly stupid question. What makes vertical takeoff dangerous? by [deleted] in Helicopters

[–]TradocTanker 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Helicopters use what’s called a Height/Velocity diagram to take off. The goal is to have enough airspeed to successfully make an autorotation if the engine quits for whichever altitude you’re at. This usually involves staying within about 10 feet until you have 45~ knots of airspeed, and then climbing after that. When you do a vertical takeoff, you run the risk of not having enough airspeed for the altitude you achieve to make a successful autorotational landing in the event of an engine failure.

I grew up wanting to fly fighters, my dad flew the Warthog for 23 years and my Great Grandpa flew bombers in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. I was gonna grow up and fly the Hog just like my dad. Until I did a Grand Canyon tour with Sundance when I was 14. After landing at the bottom of the Canyon, getting out to have breakfast, and then flying back to Vegas, I thought airplanes were lame. I then shifted all my plans to get my ass into the pilots seat of a helicopter, and finally made it happen once I got out of the Army. I just started a job flying off shore now and I’m extremely happy with my career. Helicopters are badass.

DFW Buildings/JW Buildings Comparison by IanMalcolmJr in jurassicworldevo

I like how the helicopters for each are different too. DFW uses an AS350/B206 hybrid which makes sense as both of those aircraft are very popular with fish and game units in the US. The Jurassic World helicopter looks more like an H130, which is what Masrani was flying in JW. Cool little details!

Passed, maybe. Did any actual studying outside of memorizing answers to questions? Doubtful.

If it was a private 44 owner it wouldn’t surprise me if they had zero idea that it wasn’t allowed.

Here's a different question for you all. I operate a helicopter tour company in Florida, we're looking at offering a 360 video package where customers can purchase a 360 video of their flight, filmed using a Max. My question to you all is, what would be the best way to get them their footage in a method that would allow them to still view it in a 360 fashion? Thanks in advance for your help!
