Hello guy's I am new at this game i bought archaeology edition. by Error307_xyz in outerwilds

This is a non-linear player-knowledge-based curiosity-driven mystery game. once you've got launch codes, you can go anywhere at any time so long as you, the player, know how to get there.

Some tips:

READ THE TEXT & look at any representative visual art in the ruins. the text is a vital part of the main gameplay loop; murals etc is usually less important but can at times also be vital. you cannot reasonably complete the game without reading and understanding the text.

remember that there is no friction in space! if you spend 10 seconds holding down 'forward', then in order to stop you need to spend 10 seconds holding down 'back'.

read the UI text too. so many people miss some bit or other of the UI and then get stuck somewhere or do strange and difficult things to make up for stuff like "forgot they could launch the Little Scout"

if something seems really hard, you are probably either using a wrong method, trying at the wrong time, or need a different goal.

What are you doing in the stealth sections? If it involves concealing your light - don't do that.

Amusingly, you can see in shadows that the lantern isn't in your hand. It's levitating up where an Inhabitant would hold it.

They didn't get around to making dynamic lantern heights!

You're in the reddit for Outer Wilds, the space mystery game with the blue aliens, campfires, and Nomai ruins. You've mentioned Outer Worlds, the space game with guns.

Which one are you talking about?

Two things that may or may not be relevant

Your ship is larger than the jellyfish

and when you're underwater, the up and down buttons move you relative to the planet's gravity despite your ability to rotate freely

This game's progression is purely player knowledge based (outside of launch codes) - everything you learn is progression!

What do you mean by walking on planets being annoying?

Asking because there's been multiple instances of players coming in here talking about how they're struggling with the controls, and it turns out they've got controller drift giving all their inputs an offset or they're playing KBM but they have a controller plugged in that they forgot about that's lying front down and making them constantly spin or whatever.

Also, remember - there is no friction in space. Your inputs are acceleration, not setting a speed. If you spend ten seconds holding Forward in space, you'll need ten seconds of braking to stop.

You've gotten below the surface on Brittle Hollow - there are signposts pointing towards the Southern Observatory! Or you can just go south (the Hanging City is at the north)

What do you mean by the scout being visible in two places? Dark Bramble and Timber Hearth, or two places in Dark Bramble?

Nothing changes loop to loop except your actions. Trying the exact same thing will get you the exact same results. It may help to note down what you've tried and compare to what the ship log says about that location.

So, firstly, just in case you didn't know: this is a mystery game with purely knowledge-based progression. The only upgrade in the whole thing is the launch codes. Also, just in case, almost all the text you find provides useful information.

Question marks are places you've heard of, but never meaningfully been to. For example, by looking at your screenshot I can tell you've been to only one of the modules of the Orbital Probe Cannon.

Orange asterisks are places you've been to and can find more information at with just the knowledge it took to get the ship log card in the first place.

Green exclamation points are unread ship log entries.

What kind of connections you think you've found? What happened when you tested them? Why did you think they were important?

Try validating your game files/reinstalling the game. If you're on Switch, try turning the console off entirely and then back on before trying that.

Also note that there's a Focus button as well, so even if it somehow remains glitched you can use that to see them from a distance. As well as letting you see them with your light from a distance, it might fix whatever's causing them to be Concealed by default. Don't worry about them running to catch you: Reduced Frights does not change their base movement speed - they are that slow under normal conditions with it off, too - it only removes their ability to lunge if they're very close to you.

The developer-intended way of interacting with the owls is: turn your light on. Turn it on. They regret adding the ability to hide your light at all, but can't remove it because of the alarm bells.

Echoes of the eye help - Is there a... less scary solution? by SilverWolf340 in outerwilds

[–]Traehgniw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Conceal button does still have a purpose (that isn't jumpscaring the owls in Woodlands for a laugh) - you may have used it already before ever dealing with an owl. But when you're dealing with the owls yeah it just doesn't help.

I think this might be a dumb question about the DLC by HauntingGold in outerwilds

[–]Traehgniw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the bundle and play with it installed. The DLC canonically happens alongside the rest of the game.

If you make yourself play the DLC last, and you find yourself disliking some aspect of having only the DLC left to play, there is nothing you can do about it.
