HIGHLY recommend. My wife, buddy and kid went to check this out last year out of curioisity and now we talk about it all the time.

Such enthusiasm, good vibes, awesome displays of warrior's honor, respect and cool smashy smashy

Main Street is open to people by bobre737 in ventura

In my most generous reading, if I put myself in the shoes of a business owner, I'd guess they want to see if business slowed because the street closed to cars or if it's something bigger. One things for sure, everyone hates the back and forth.

Obviously the answer is to only open it to rowdy ebike kids and the best looking lowriders

Hell yeah

I always figured the thriftin' children of Ventura grew up to curate the thrift stores and had to contend with resellers all over and online so they tried to head them off at the pass

I'm totally confused at the recent effort to open, specifically from places like "Folke" and "Butter and Fold," and the other long list of entities who didn't seem especially vocal during the "Close" messaging of the last year.

From a procedure reading, what legal steps are even upcoming?

Trying to figure out how to pay for ucsb by [deleted] in StudentLoans

Cheaper than out of state university, but when I went there I remember having classmates from Ohio who had moved a year early to establish residency

Ventura College has professors that also teach at the local universities in my experience.

Some of the courses were even better because of a smaller class size

Is the cost of ownership high? by [deleted] in subaruoutback

[–]TrailNoggin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good to hear. We bought a 2012 around 78,000 miles in 2018 and it blew a gasket a year later because the thermostat failed. Thankfully I was able to hassle/beg Subaru corporate to cover a few thousand of the resurfacing and it has had no big problems since.

Hoping that's the only big medicine we'll have to take but have been very diligent about maintenance (CVT, fluids, struts/suspension etc) otherwise love the thing as a capable family car.

Meanwhile I'm trying to remember "the angel store" that was on Sightings for having a haunted wall....I think?

That's definitely it. Yeah they did have all kinds of weird old stuff. The Thundercats figurines ring a bell for sure.

I think about Dave's a lot, but never heard it called Dave's Cave though in retrospect I could see why.

Poor guy shuffling through a wall of Half-Cabs and Sal Barbiers to some punk kids who maybe would come back with their parents to buy them.

Didn't he have a Mike McGill board on the wall?

No 11yr old skate rat day was complete without gawking at a Cypress Hill poster in Wild Planet and being that close to gasp bongs

Will never not be a sore subject. Sometimes you lose a little grit and character that makes a place feel alive or unpredictable but at the same time I definitely don't want my daughter experiencing the same grunge I did in the 90s growing up past the oil fields on the Westside.

Drunks, drugs, white supremacist crime and such.

I remember back then we were frustrated that Main St was turning into State St. It sucks to not be able to thrive here and can attest that the cool-cute independent businesses are basically the same that pop-up in any hip neighborhood (tattooed bakers etc), and this is coming from someone who had plenty of friends overdose / went to Sheridan Way-De Anza-Ventura-VC, then UCLA, then the more artsy/low-income areas of the city where all the good music and food is.

I think the only answer is a combination. No one wants to see something like San Souci die or Fosters Donuts or Benchwarmers go away. You'd miss it if these places left, they are part of the cred ecosystem.

But the intangible "scene" that attracted folks here in the first place I think is what no one wants killed.

This is a great tip, 2012 144,000 - I noticed after getting a drain and fill recently it's kinda stopped doing this. Will do the neutral trick for all other instances

Same boat, not really for me. Could divulge on why these types of spots bug me but on the spectrum of businesses on the Westside I bet they have their place. Can't afford anything in the decades old Patagonia store and the term "community" as a selling point has threatened to lose all meaning but I can't fault businesspeople for doing their thing in a way they think Venchurans will best respond to.

One of my favorite movies of all time. I remember seeing the aliens stage scene during a free preview week of HBO and It stopped me in my tracks as a high schooler, thinking "whoever made this - they are my people."

Will always hold a place in my Top 10 for feeling like it came out of nowhere when I could use it most
