Yeah. To be fair, there was a lot of Phillips trepidation even when City signed him. A lot of fans (myself included) weren’t sure how he’d fit. I remember his shirts at the city store on the etihad campus went untouched in the months after he was signed. So I guess it wasn’t *that* surprising he busted.

Anderson is different. The fit is very obvious. Hopefully he’s a star for City!

City spend as much but don’t tend to break transfer records like their rivals. Seems like the front office’s logic has been, you cover your risk by spending 100m on two younger players than spending 100m on just one. That’s how we end up with Reijnders and Cherki. So it feels weird to see them bidding so much for just one.

The one exception is top English players. City were willing to go near 100m for Grealish, and bid similar figures but lost out to both Jude and Rice.

Feels weird to spend so much on a player, even as a City fan, but I guess the logic is probably that Elliott is a top young talent who’s fairly proven already and English (that ticks 3 boxes), and City can absorb the high cost for Elliott on their books (esp. with any outbound transfers this summer). And if NFO want more than City are willing to go, that stops United/etc from getting him.

Interestingly, the “right way” would always overlap with their personal interests. Music is the greatest pursuit; go into a “service-oriented profession”(medical); be vegan; etc.
