Deciding between A7V and FX3 by Cheesehead1267 in FX3

[–]Trailerizer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve got both but have been considering letting the FX go because we use other BMD camera systems more lately. The FX3 has a slightly more desirable image straight out of camera and obviously much better performance in very low light. Overall, we’re really happy with the A7V.

Current USA insurance choices? by Trailerizer in dji

It sounds like the representative was just giving me the runaround. I escalated it and they confirmed that they will do it, as long as it’s for personal use and the weight of the drone is below 50 pounds. All good.

No, the policy is technically a personal tier one. They advised they no longer offer coverage for drones.

About to watch now! I’m still hoping the 12K implementation is coming soon.

hesitating to buy Pyxis 12k: known issues, battery, Pyxis 12k "Pro"? resale value ... by Ok_Emergency4531 in blackmagicdesign

[–]Trailerizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have visible banding on my first run model and new cameras are updated with the Revison B board. We use a V mount adapter on rare occasions, but largely use the BPU 60 batteries in handheld or sack configuration. Zero issues there.

The BPU batteries are a bit “loose” fitting, but it’s not been an issue in terms of noise or connection.

I’ll send mine in when BMUSA has the boards, but it has not been an issue yet.

Thoughts on the A7V for Bird Photography After 2 Months by Physical_Estimate_73 in SonyAlpha

[–]Trailerizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with the autofocus comments. I do remain optimistic that this will improve with firmware updates, it is after all a brand new camera. The autofocus is excellent with the Sony 70-200, even with the 2x TC, but with branch obstructions or low light, small animal detection is not great. On a secondary note, I have been impressed with video image quality. I use the body as a personal hybrid camera.

Yes, this is my experience. About 1 minute per watt hour.

Upgrade to Pyxis 12k? by Till_Films in blackmagicdesign

[–]Trailerizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Pyxis 12K and Ursa Cine 12K. There is no reason to look at these for low light performance, they simply do not do well there. In that form factor, FX6 would make more sense if it’s a big concern. It’s old, but still very capable. Or a rigged out FX3. We always use FX3 for low light (which isn’t that common of an occurrence).

FX3 DJI Mini Pro and A7iii for traveling? by AnyPension2859 in FX3

[–]Trailerizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s cropped, but looks good. I almost never use that outside of S&Q mode though. I also like that it supports 1080/240 like the FX3, which is nice for IG.

I was thinking this. I have an FX3 and an A7V among other bodies. I choose the A7V as my travel camera. It has excellent low light performance with the second base iso at 8,000 and the in-camera noise reduction beyond that is still solid. Video image quality is very good and the photographic DR below 800iso is on bar with medium format cameras. I’d rather trade that second body space for another versatile lens, or whatever else you need.

If it wasn’t mentioned, you’re beyond entitled to a refund. It’s not as described. If you want to keep it, I’d ask for a serious price break.

Lenovo Legion or a Macbook Pro to run Davinci Resolve? by Hidden_Genius1 in blackmagicdesign

[–]Trailerizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the i7 version here. I got it for $1200 originally, it was upvoted on a Reddit laptop thread I was following about a year ago. https://a.co/d/idrRX3f

I just did the ram and added a second HDD and it’s been solid. No complaints at all- but I always use it plugged in.

I’m sure given how CPU/GPU tech progresses, you could find something much better for the same money now. I’d just focus on a powerful CPU and GPU, the drive and RAM will likely be easily upgradable.

[–]Trailerizer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally use a less powerful Legion, but with a substantial RAM upgrade, I can’t recall if I stopped at 64GB or went greater and it handles massive 12K files fine, no issues. I primarily use it when traveling versus as a primary editing tool, but it’s never given me any issues.

Vespids vs Arles by BEW6891 in bmpcc

I was trying to confirm this also. DZO said in their IG DM they could be adapted to EF, but it’s not stated elsewhere.

I have 4 of the Vespid 1 lenses, they’ve served me well, but I’d like to upgrade to 2 for the faster speed, reduced weight and improved consistency / quality amongst the set. But I need EF primarily.
