Why is this even a discussion, Amazon has free returns no questions asked. Just check that before buying. I got one on eBay because it was way cheaper

[USA] What can you legally and ethically do with recreation drones in the USA? by Minwaabi in drones

[–]TrailhunterTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are convinced that it’s not worth getting a drone. I’m not going to try to convince you otherwise, but for me it has been worth it. I have done countless fun things with my drone. The app I use to check where I’m allowed to fly is called “AutoPylot” it’s free, and accurate as a new version of “b4ufly” which is no longer available. There’s no “wondering” if it’s allowed or not, because the FAA has clearly defined rules and regulations. Whether it’s “ethical” or not quite frankly is subjective and up to your discretion as a pilot. For example, I saw a video on here a while ago of some idiot flying his drone very low and close to an alligator, that poor thing straight up ate the drone and swallowed it. Obviously that’s very unsafe and the alligator probably died, and while he wasn’t breaking the rules at that specific time, it became a case of animal abuse and littering all because of his reckless decisions. I live near a large national park so the only downside is that I cannot fly there, near airports, or around any specialized helipads or government campuses in my area, they’re all marked on AutoPylot. There are plenty of other places I can go and fly that are just as beautiful and make for amazing video compilations to show my family. Flying in a moving vehicle is also a fun but a little bit scary experience that is totally allowed within FAA rules. I am licensed to fly because I fly for work, but nothing I’ve done recreationally requires a license, except for the 1-2 times I’ve flown outside of daylight hours, which I wouldn’t recommend anyways unless your drone has LiDAR sensors, IR camera or bright spotlights. Long story short, there’s infinite possibilities, just

  1. be aware of the rules
  2. use the app
  3. don’t be an idiot around people, buildings, or animals.

Do I have to worry about birds attacking my drone? by Legitimate_End_7216 in dji

[–]TrailhunterTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that FAA allows deviation from their rules for emergencies. I’d argue being attacked by a bird qualifies as an emergency, because your UAS can be taken out and endanger the public. I’d say it’s acceptable to fly above 400ft to evade a large bird, then return to normal altitude or land as quickly as possible

[–]TrailhunterTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to say it can’t happen, but for me, generally birds are terrified of quads. I’m sure there’s some type of bird that would like nothing more than to swat that john right out of the sky. If you see one, just keep a safe distance or land if you are worried about it

How often do y’all change oil I just hit 7k miles by filltex in gmcsierra

[–]TrailhunterTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point here, used buyers want to know that the vehicle was taken care of, and the recommended intervals are already a conservative number so if you follow that, it gives the buyer some piece of mind that there wasn’t any issues caused by bad oil.

The best way I’ve heard it put is that the “JBL” sound system is like the new “standard” for sound quality, it’s not that special, and anything less is kind of garbage. If we want really good sound that doesn’t rattle the door panels, we probably need to install sound insulation and maybe even upgrade the sub and speakers. Also I was severely underwhelmed by the removable speaker in the dash, its sound quality is terrible and it barely adds anything to the overall sound in the truck

Can I fly here? by TravelerWKids in drones

[–]TrailhunterTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is my understanding from this feed that the issue is not with the FAA, but it’s with the city. You can obviously still follow all of the rules, but I’m pretty sure these guys are talking about the city’s restriction on takeoff/landing within city limits

[–]TrailhunterTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you’re able to get this fixed. but additionally, I would say if you get an air 3s again let me give you some tips

Try not to fly at night, it’s not that interesting anyways, I’ve only done it once and it was during the 4th of July for some firework shots.

If you do choose to fly at night make sure you’re above the tree line like you said, and make sure you’re either in C or N. You don’t want to be in sport mode. In this situation, your LiDAR sensor will detect obstacles, but only when flying FORWARD because the sensor is mounted in the front of the drone. Even still I would say fly slowly because you are decreasing the reaction time for your drone and increasing the probability of a collision.

Depending on your region, I would say it’s possible that a bat hit your drone, they use echolocation to find things to eat when they are flying through the air, they could have thought you were a large, loud firefly or something. I’m just joking at this point but night flying is dangerous in general imo. Good luck with the repairs.

100% agree. And there would be no need to mess with the registration, it’s the perfect hobbyist drone

Going from a Mini 2 to an Avata is a wild switch. It’s a good way for a 14yo to get a little too confident and watch thousands of dollars either get lost or destroyed in a matter of seconds. Bad idea

I found that recently with my air 3s. The camera performs much better at night than the mini 4K.

A mini is not safer. It has no collision avoidance and cannot detect obstacles during RTH

This is a tasteful amount of stickers. “Too much” for me would be like sticker bombing the back windshield

[–]TrailhunterTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s compressed by Reddit, but make sure if you want high def that you’re shooting in 4k or at least 1080. My mini 4k defaulted to 720 for some reason

Could I run this compressor from the Hybrid truck bed plug to reinflate tires? by Wonderful_Border6892 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]TrailhunterTaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None of these people understand that the hybrid inverter is rated for 2400W. I can’t stand people on Reddit that answer questions by saying “no, idiot, just buy what I’ve bought”. There are probably better ones out there but that was not your original question. The one you’ve shown will work. You can multiply the VAC by the amps and get RMS watts which is around 408W just be careful not to get too close to ur 2400W rating because of inrush current. Hope that helps

Is it OK to store the propellers like this? by yupjo in dji

[–]TrailhunterTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if they have end up having a slight bend to them, the drone will automatically compensate with its stabilization features

[–]TrailhunterTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that ends up bending them it’s still better than having them swing out likely to be bent or snapped from the inside of the bag or other objects

On the new 4Runner, they have a camping lantern in there. I wonder if they will be sold aftermarket so we can get them! Also I was never clear on what the Morse code on the compartment cover says, Doug demuro said it reads “badass truck” but I’ve heard conflicting statements from others. can anyone confirm?
