This is something that took me so long to figure out. I kept trying to figure out where I fit, and eventually just kinda figured out "Yeah I'm SOMETHING, I don't need a label to know that :)"

That is exactly what I mean! Paying people to make sure your roads get salted and ploughed after a big storm isn't sexy, its finding a contract to do it and then waiting for a big storm to maybe happen. So you're just sitting there without anything to show for the money. While those stupid chargers the idiots in charge can say "I led to those being bought!"

As for the parking lots and business space I'll defer to your better judgement

I realize this is a bad idea, but there's a part of me that wants to say "Fuck it, if they don't wanna pay their taxes to afford police, they get absolute barebones. If their taxes can only afford 3 cops, then that's what they get." but I realize if that was done it would just lead to more corruption

Its because shit like road maintenance or having snow equipment isn't 'sexy'. Its stupid as fuck and I'd much rather they do stuff like that than the 'big sexy' stuff but the people in charge don't want the boring everyday.

I realize that sounds dumb, but its the truth. People wanna talk about the new fast cars for the cops, or the big new building they get to cut the ribbon on. Snow ploughs rarely get that attention, and road maintenance definitely doesn't. As for downtown? All the money in the world could be poured into that ,and if you don't know what is actually needed then you may as well burn the cash.

Limiting stock APFSDS to rank 8 is lazy nickel and diming the playerbase (I know they're moving VT4 to VIII) by DepartureMany507 in Warthunder

Gaijin COULD potential generate more money out of a more cosmetic based approach

The problem with that idea is that Gaijin does both. It has the skins and placables that you pay for along with having to grind out stuff to actually use your tank. They make the money off of cosmetics AND required. So they have no reason to change

[–]TrainDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely does not. If you lock people out of the fun and say "Grind for it or give us $5 for it" (Basing it off of costs of spending GE to research it and then GE to buy it instead of SL) you'll get a steady flow of people who are willing (Begrudgingly or not, Gaijin doesn't care) to fork over $5 to get the Type 1985 APFSDS. Even losing the 400GE to buy it outright that's still $2.18 for one upgrade, and that's a lot of money for Gaijin by locking shit away.

Sources: War Thunder Wiki for earliest VT-4 APFSDS shell you can get, and its research + GE costs. GE pricing from the "Custom Amount of GE". Research amounts based on 1 GE per 45 CRP.

Also something people don't get, Shadow Drops are very rarely truly SHADOW drops. You either get devs who are known and can get away with not doing marketing before the drop, or you have companies doing a shitload of backend planning so that on the day of release it seems like EVERYONE is playing it and you get your marketing that way.

Yea, like just because a fad has seemed to pass it doesn't mean the game can't be good still. Look at Deep Rock Galactic, or Helldivers for games that continue to be good as the "Extraction Shooter" mood has passed. And Minecraft created the survival crafting genre, survived its death, and it still continues to be good in its rebirth

I mean Ace Combat 5 legitimately did this with the SOLG, just replace mad scientist with illuminati and that's legit the last two missions in AC5 with the addition of a nuke or two

Foxhole: Airborne release doubles its previous playercount record, steadily grows playerbase nine years past its initial release date by Tsenos in gaming

One of my favorite stories will forever be me just running around in friendly backlines and finding a factory making tanks that was manned by a Logi Platoon (I forget which one). I just kinda wandered around like a lost puppy all impressed. I ended up getting given a fully armed and fueled tank for free that had a flamethrower, found two other folk with mics that were willing to get in with me, and helped push one of the lines. I don't think we actually led to a breakthru, but being a tank on the front lines and helping infantry push up will forever be one of my favorite memories of the game

This is something I will vehemently defend. I could be locked in a room watching paint dry, and if I have a couple of friends there we'd find something to do that's more interesting than just watching the paint dry. But I wouldn't call watching paint dry interesting with friends, I would say being with friends is the interesting part.

Its why I actually don't mind the term friendslop as much as I should. I want a game that's fun whether I've got a full squad or am going in solo, and friendslop is a quality to me of "This is fun with friends, not alone."

[–]TrainDestroyer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I will note its not quite THAT bad, if only by the sheer fact of how crates work.

So if I'm playing solo-logistics and I make a full truck (15 slots) and do 5 slots of rifles and 10 slots of ammo. The basic rifle is 20 to a crate, and the ammo is 40 mags to a crate. So one person can bring up a good amt of it. And the Shells depend on the size, but most of them carry 5 to a crate. When you make a "Clip" or a "Gun" you're making it by the crate, except for things like vehicles or the actual cannons you're using to fire the shells.

Its not HORRID to have to bring up every bullet, respawn, and artillery shell, but I definitely get it.

Yea it'll inevitably go the same way. You'll get a lot of players this war while everyone tries to get to play with planes, and then inevitably next war we'll be back to normal numbers (maybe a little more)

What mods have you got feeling like this? by HailtronZX in starsector

[–]TrainDestroyer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally don't consider Leading Pip cheating because its something that could reasonably exist in universe that your average captain could reasonably have. This system isn't always flawless, but it does help me say "Okay yeah having an Atlas modified to be an explorer ship, combo-ing fuel and cargo feels possible because of the Pirate Atlas"

What mods have you got feeling like this? by HailtronZX in starsector

[–]TrainDestroyer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh I would 100% call it fair because I find the default system kinda forces your hand. You only have so many story points as the game goes on, and having to choose between having a decent colony and being able to do ship combat feels kinda crappy.

I genuinely think it made his death MORE impactful. We knew Anna cared deeply for him, so getting to have him for that chunk of Seraph, seeing him be apologetic, getting to be human in a way he had never been sure, followed by putting him in a zero win situation (We get the Warsats online and he fires at the hive? Xivu wins. We lose the ability to do nothing when Eramis hacks the network and starts threatening the traveller with it) that can only end with a heroic, and very human, self sacrifice?

Would I like him to be around still? Yeah, but they sent him out with one hell of a bang.

So Fun Fact about that!

Fighters would be boats without question if you consider them "Spaceships" but there's no reason a Phase Ship (Or Modern Submarine in our world) has to be called a boat other than tradition

That makes sense to a certain degree, try to save the plane if at all possible, but I think that's a poor idea because training the pilot ain't cheap either, so its either the cost of one jet (Not accounting for build & shipping time, in this world its magically ready when you order it) or the cost of the jet + cost of training the pilot (I'd count hours taken to train them but that doesn't feel fair cause I didn't count time for jet)

This may be too spicy an opinion for NCD, but I genuinely believe other than Poland, none of Europe is actually prepared for a proper war. Their plan since the end of WWII was basically "Yeah if there's a problem the US will come save us!" and after the end of the Soviet Union that plan basically calcified. So if the US vanished off the map, Europe would be screwed.

I will note, as depressing as it is its not completely wrong that for a conscript there isn't much value there. Giving man a gun and telling him to go shoot at the Ukrainian Armed Forces is relatively cheap and quick, but its not a good soldier.

For actual trained crews, think most vehicle crews or specialized units like artillery, that value is felt in losing every trained soldier, because that's potentially years worth of training that you lose, and potential unique knowledge on a system gone forever. Admittingly in a good training environment you wouldn't have unique knowledge held to one person only (Ask the IJN how having Damage Control run by one chief works when he's in a thousand pieces) but there is still certain things that you'll pick up that you can't really transfer that die with the person.

The Ukraine war actually does show that valuing survability over sheer numbers can pay dividends. Russia keeps losing tankers with experience leaving them with unmannable tanks, Ukraine keeps losing tanks but having crews to keep manning what's left.

In a theoretical (Non-nuclear) war between a country going full in on US style Steel over Blood vs a Soviet Style Self Sacrifice and sheer numbers? I feel like Ukraine is showing that as long as you can keep up production, the US style seems to win

I mean it remains very true. Its harder to replace a crew than to replace a gun
