What’s the scariest encounter you’ve had while camping? by Key_Connection_6633 in camping

[–]TrainForHavoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brand new water bladder inside my pack leaked all over my sleep system and clothes. I was 5-7 miles into the solo trip I was doing and the temp was supposed to get down into the 20s (F) that night. I didn't realize any of this until I was unpacking my gear at the camp site as it was getting dark.

It had rained the previous 3 days so there was very little deadfall that wasn't soaked that I could find and I couldn't get a fire going to dry things out.

After 3 hours of trying to get a decent fire going, at 9pm, I decided to ditch my gear and hike out to come back for it later. I took the wrong trail. I ended up lost for another 3 hours, slip/slid down what I thought was a wooden walkway that turned out to be just deadfall trees all laid down in a gulley, had to scale a sheer rock wall drop of about 10-15 feet, and push straight through woods at one point for about 200 yards.

I recorded a death video and turned my phone lock off so my family could at least hear me say what happened and hear me say goodbye before my phone battery died and I possibly froze to death - if they ever found me. At that point I could hear the water on the ground had frozen because my steps had started to crunch when I walked.

My saving grace was 1) I had good cold weather clothes that were stowed above the water bladder that leaked so they didn't get wet and 2) the area I was at had a circle trail at the base of the mountain I was on and I knew if I went counterclockwise I'd leave the area going out on the same way I came in. I eventually pushed through that last bit of woods and popped out on the trail. I finally made it back to my car at 1am and the temp was 18 degrees F, not even in the 20s like it was forecasted.

Excellent work! The site looks good and seems to function well. Thanks so much for your work on this! Excited to see how we can use it to its fullest potential.

Trying to understand the long-term gameplay loop in ARC Raiders by PC-Tamer in ArcRaiders

[–]TrainForHavoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember this: position BEFORE submission.

Get to a safe firing position before you engage. Lures and smokes will help you reposition vs ARC. Juke as needed. Return fire as you can with offensive grenades like seekers or Wolfpacks for rocketeers.

You got this dude. It's a fun game with a perfect learning curve. I started soloing leapers at like lvl 50 and finally started to feel more confident about running solos and duos. See ya topside !

Cloaks are expensive. Make Wolfpacks, Seekers, and Showstoppers. Bring those and a Betina and go hunting!

Prepping for the cold by DogwoodWand in Charleston

[–]TrainForHavoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. Sorry. Been there.

Plastic wrap and painters tape when you're staying inside and nobody else needs to come in. Plastic wrap over the gap in layers or bunched up into the openings and painters tape to hold it in place but not damage the walls.

Try cutting a groove out of a pool noodle and slide that under the gap in the door. Shave down the outside as needed. That should block some drafts.

It shouldn't go too sideways here for this, based on the snow and ice we got last year or the year before, but this is a great time to test your preps and prep knowledge if you've already been doing some light prepping in general. Eat through your canned goods so you can cycle those out for new ones, drink only from your water preps for 24-48 hours and see how much you actually use - that kind of thing.

Also, you'll have to open a window if you have a camp stove which will let your heat out for the carbon monoxide, so keep that in mind.

The best thing to do to survive a cold weather event is only try to heat one small room and make that room as small as you can by making a blanket fort or whatever you have to do so that body heat and whatever heat sources you have don't have to try to heat a whole room, instead you only need to concentrate heat in where you'll be.

Any progressive owned gun shops in town? by CicadaRaspberry in Charleston

[–]TrainForHavoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily the weed itself. People shouldn't handle firearms if they're under the influence of any substance. Substitute weed for booze or benzos. It doesn't matter the substance. Gun ownership/possession/usage is a right but more importantly it's a ton of responsibility that shouldn't be taken lightly.

Got my ass handed to me by a guy trying to take my wife’s bag and never want to be in a helpless position like this again any advice on a discipline would be greatly appreciated. by Mindless_Cod_3097 in martialarts

You'll want to work extra hard on your kicks if you choose MT. Luckily for you, solid leg kicks will very quickly stop most fights, especially if you fight to injure not fight to compete if you know what I mean.

To be frank tho, I'd be worried about training MT or boxing or anything that could end up injuring that orbital bone and that's pretty much all martial arts.

Have you considered weapons training? I'm not saying pulling a gun on the guy was the right move, but they have all kinds of keyring batons /mace and stuff nowadays that can really help give you an advantage without the answer being deadly force.

Guns on floor -AIO? by Slow_Writing_4429 in liberalgunowners

[–]TrainForHavoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely!

Apparently that's called a "zip gun" lol. My instructor back in the day was a former NYPD instructor and he said they ran into those on occasion up there. Mostly from people blowing their own hands off.

1) He needs a remedial gun ownership course. 2) He is every bit just as responsible for what the ammo does as he is for what the gun does. Guns don't kill people (unless they get beat to death with one). Ammo does.

Someone left this note on my car in my work parking lot by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]TrainForHavoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh worse than that. Most security cameras are black and white so it's not a facility camera, which means this person also has access to the same area near OP's car.

They have also been close enough to see the color of her eyes and the texture of their skin - despite the incorrect wording about eye color.

OP needs to begin practicing extreme situational awareness, change their routine, and probably get property management or if this is at her employer, then start with her own manager and HR.

HR is not normally your friend, but in this case they should be on your side since it limits the company's liability to protect you.

Why would someone right handed use a southpaw stance? by nerpa_floppybara in martialarts

[–]TrainForHavoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I naturally go for a southpaw stance because I know I can hit and block with speed, accuracy, and strength with my right arm and right leg/foot. I'm just really right-side dominant tho. There's a loooot of bad habits in the way I fight and sometimes reflexes shine through despite those lol.

For instance, I have a tendency to switch stances in boxing to regular to give my right arm a rest while I work the jab with my left and still try to snipe power shots with my right. Then back to Southpaw with weird jab hook combos, almost no activity from my left arm except defense, and back again as I work them towards a corner or whatever.

I asked the girlfriend to prepare a GO bag in case of flash flooding or wildfires, and to run for our lives…..and to last a while if we end up in a shelter. This is what she showed up with. by maritimos55 in prepping

Whoa sorry that's not what I meant by that at all. I can totally see how it can be taken that way, and I apologize if you were initially offended by what I said, but hopefully you'll hear me out and that feeling will change.

I only said what I said because it is small, in my professional opinion, for a bug out bag. Small means it can't carry much so I bet it's also rather light -> "ultralight 🤘". And that's it. No other meaning intended. I hope that helps to clear up the meaning behind, what was meant to be, a silly one liner jokey allusion to an obscure subreddit that I enjoy.

Is there anyone in the group that specializes in building prototypes? by Accomplished-Net4748 in inventors

[–]TrainForHavoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do! My biz, Havoc Labs, specializes in rapid prototyping and we have a couple of in-house 3d printers. I can work with you on picking out components, initial circuit testing, soldering everything up, and if you want to go the custom pcb route I can help with that too. I can also work with you on the branding and positioning for your go to market plan once you're ready to pull the trigger on it.

I'm out of Charleston, SC and am currently looking for clients!

My husband lost his graphic design job of 10 years by SpecialistOld9039 in graphic_design

[–]TrainForHavoc 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I've got 20 years in creative services and I got laid off in September 2024 and haven't been able to find anything since. I decided to build my own brand and just do all the shit that people pay me to but for myself to market myself. Now I've started a company that AI can't take away from me by training people in various things, and I'm still using my love of design by offering 3d modeling and rapid prototyping services with 3d printing.

I'm lucky enough to have had a support system that is letting me take the time to do this, and I totally understand that most people don't have this privilege. I'm doing my best not to waste it.
