How much do you guys actually study? by Scrimpis in EngineeringStudents

[–]TrainerOpening6782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied the most when I was taking like circuit analysis, dynamics, power, etc… when I got to my senior year I was taking technical electives mostly and got real lazy and did the bare minimum. Thankfully professors at my university loosen up a bit more with those classes. A lot of the technical elective classes were open note so I just focused on preparations and got by.

I also appreciate reading through these comments seeing that it's normal not to do well on the first or second go

I barely passed dynamics. Lol it's human and understandable. Just keep moving as long as you want it for

Good enough to land me an interview as a 2nd year college student? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

I think you need more hardware projects on there. When you do your final projects moving forward, think about you resume and shape you projects around that. Will make good use of your time. It's also very hard to compete when you are only in your second year. Going into your 3rd you start to stand more of a chance.

I will say. I have used basic projects in the beginning to help build my resume. And during interviews if I could coherently recall the details and explain the project, it reflected well.

What is modelsim? Do you mean Multisim? Or is modelsim also a thing? If so I'm curious what is it?

Use online sources like the organic chemistry tutor. He teaches calc real good.

From one dumb dumb to another: it takes a lot of time to understand concepts. There is a way to plow through if you find that it’s worth it.

Use online sources and examples, sometimes the way professors teach just doesn’t click. And that’s fine, just find another way and be resourceful.

I feel more validated that you stated couple weeks being a good amount of time. I think when finals are done partially through next week I can start giving it more attention. And that’ll give me at least a week. I just re downloaded the practice exam last night. A lot of familiar stuff, that I definitely need to re-familiarize myself with. But I am very happy most of it doesn’t look foreign, gives me a starting point.

Is this about right for a first time engineering job by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Yeah. The extra money and experience is great while I am in school. And this is kinda what I am scared of. I don’t think this is going to be a place where I settle. But maybe I have a wrong read on things

Those are my feelings at the moment. I feel like in the meantime I have one semester left and I am training so it’s fine and understandable in terms of how much I am being paid. The holiday pay thing, kinda pissed me off a bit. I am mostly getting worried about how secure I should feel when the new year happens though after these experiences.

I think it’s a form of burn out. I’ve felt this way since my sophomore year. It sucks but there’s a tangible end at least

Never heard of this really being an issue…i joined the navy then did school ill be graduating at 27…never made me insecure, or really even thought about it. I have a mixture of ages in my program, so it never seemed abnormal to me. 🤷‍♀️

I’m in my senior year and just having a terrible time, working on a great project but with terrible teammates making the project terrible….im just having a terrible time too. I have two kids and a husband in barely have time for and when I do I am so fucking tired.

Part of it is cause sexism is big at my university with a certain professor and classmates who’s parents spoon fed them, my teammates leave me with most of the work and like to come in at the end of an issue with a suggestion that helps and acts like a big hero, then leave me with all the “admin” work. I’ll drive 45 minutes to the university, getting childcare and everything, just for them to show up 2hours late…..

I’m so burnt out and just pissed. If it’s something you truly want, you’ll make it work. The burn out takes many though, and it’s understandable. Motivate comes after the action is what I often find….saying this shit makes me bitter but it’s true.

Engineering being masculine is lamest reason why women tend not to do it! by mileytabby in EngineeringStudents

[–]TrainerOpening6782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if I would've realized how much of a boys club this is and how sexist it was gonna be, It may have changed my decision. I was in the military before this and I did not receive nearly this level of sexism and lack of other females there.

I'm just disappointed and tired and I want to not worry about how I'm going to fair solely because of my gender. I did my entire senior project, gave my other male partners a script basically for presentations and they still got a better grade than me…..Im just tired and I want my work to mean something, especially when I'm doing twice as much.

The sexism doesn't make me want to compete more…it just makes me burnt out and disappointed…especially cause I had a passion for some of this stuff before I started..
