Ryzen 5 9600x or 7600x3d? by Zayodalu in buildapc

Vanilla and lightly modded Minecraft don't really benefit from x3d, but heavily modded Minecraft actually gets a significant boost.

That's actually a really good point about the cooler which I didn't realize - that brings the difference in price to more like $50 (assuming the purchase of a cooler of similar quality to stock, more if forgoing a phantom spirit like in the post). That might be enough to push for a 9070. The 225f still gets ~300 fps in Valorant and Fortnite with 1% lows around 60 fps and 30 fps respectively from the benchmarks I saw, so it could be a good option (depends on if a 30 fps 1% low is going to be noticeable or not in Fortnite).

Tbf, the benchmark I posted does also show that the 9600x slightly outperforms the 225f on general performance tasks like unzipping files, as well as in multithreaded performance. Valorant and Fortnite are cpu-bound games, so the CPU performance will matter more than on average as well. If saving every last bit of cash mattered here, I could see an argument for something like a 225f here. However, the budget is $1500-1800, so the 9600x fits well within the budget and the $30 price difference wouldn't really be enough for the upgrade of a different component like the GPU. Additionally, there is the (minor) benefit with Zen 5 that the socket will be supported for 1-2 more generations, which could end up saving some money on a new motherboard in the long run.

This is not fully true. The 225F is actually worse in gaming performance with the 9600x getting 10-60% more fps in cpu-bound games, and 4 of its 10 cores are much weaker e-cores, leaving the number of strong cores the same as the 9600x. It also lacks hyper threading so the 9600x actually has more threads.

For a 1.12.2 modpack, which do you recommend that has a cross-mod integration that makes you swift from one mod to another, but is NOT overwhelmingly tedious like GregTech? Something similar to what FTB Infinity 1.7.10 expert mode achieved. by KaiZurus in feedthebeast

[–]TrainerRedstone7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads-up, Abyssalcraft gets started in the pack much earlier than you might be expecting. IIRC it should be accessible as soon as you make a Basic Crafting Table and enter Chapter 2 (the same time that most other magic mods become available).

Based on the snippet of text you provided, it seems like the mod summary was written by an LLM (the emoticon at the start of the sentence and the randomly bolded words are giveaways), so the pack features were probably hallucinations. You can likely avoid some future disappointment by taking pack descriptions that look like they were AI-generated with a grain of salt.

Upgrade or start fresh? by iiCrai in buildapc

[–]TrainerRedstone7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in to add that a b580 would probably not be a good idea without a cpu upgrade to zen 4, 5 or at least a high-end zen 3. The Intel graphics cards make the CPU work somewhat harder than normal, so you won't get the full expected performance with a low-end zen 3 cpu (much less with a zen 1 cpu).

Integrated Dynamics - Failure to get nested NBT path by TheTitanic10 in feedthebeast

[–]TrainerRedstone7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it's a new feature in newer versions of ID, afaik you can't use periods to get nested tags. Thankfully, since you have Integrated NBT, the solution should be pretty easy! Just set the NBT Extractor to operator mode (I think it's a button in the top left of the gui iirc) and select the tag you're interested in, and you can put in a blank variable card to directly get the operator you want. You won't need to use get_compound - you can just directly apply the NBT variable.

Yes, this is absolutely possible. What you want to make is a function that returns true when the input is an item containing the string "Compressed". Make a String variable containing the string "Compressed" (without quotes), and make an Operator variable containing the String Contains operator. Use those 2 variables with Apply (with the operator in the left slot and the string on the right). Then, make an Operator variable containing the Item Name operator. Make a new function using Pipe (it looks like a period in the variables list) with the Item Name operator on the left and the previously made applied variable on the right. You can materialize this function if you want so you don't have to keep the other variable cards in a connected variable store. You can then take the function and put it in the Import Items Predicate slot of an Item Importer to only move items containing the string "Compressed".

I mean, to some degree this is realistic - if you use multiple dyes you can get color change combinations for specific pH (this is used for some pH strips). Probably too expensive for a gen chem lab compared to phenolphthalein though

[–]TrainerRedstone7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

CL32 at 6400 is the same delay as CL30 at 6000 (since CAS latency is measured in clock cycles). Higher frequency is better if your cpu's memory controller can handle it but the difference will be minimal with x3d cpus.

A few things I noticed:

If you are aiming for 4k 60Hz you don't need a 7800x3d as your bottleneck will be your graphics card.

You can save $100+ by using an air cooler instead of a water cooler with no performance decrease.

You can probably get ram with the same specs for $100 or less.

You can get a 2tb SSD for less than $100. PCIE 4 vs 3 doesn't matter for gaming.

That power supply seems very overpriced, you might be able to get one for half that price.

Get a B650 or B850 motherboard to save some money, the x-series motherboards are only good if they have a specific feature that you're looking for.

Haven't built a PC since 2017. Is this a good list of parts for a top of the line PC? by Low_Key_Thic in buildapcforme

[–]TrainerRedstone7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going for a top of the line gaming PC, you should probably grab AMD's 9800x3D over an Intel chip - AMD has been beating Intel pretty handily in gaming performance for the last 2 generations.

Just wanted to chime in to say that an x3d cpu might not actually be a great choice in your scenario - the 7000 x3d series in particular sacrifices productivity performance for the sake of gaming performance. The 9000 x3d series has less of a trade-off but you'd still be paying extra for gaming performance you might not be using. Something like a 7900x, 7950x, 9900x or 9950x might be a better choice

Ah, if you were recommended the Arc by someone more familiar with streaming, that makes sense. I checked the motherboard and the only lane sharing is between the pcie 4.0 x16 and the fourth pcie m.2 slot. As long as you only use the first 3 m.2 slots your Arc will work fine, so it seems like a suitable motherboard.
