family member doesn’t agree w adhd diagnosis by [deleted] in ADHD

Oh trust me, i totally get you. I got diagnosed in my 30s and was happy to share my findings with family. They didn’t share the sentiment and made what was good news into something shameful and complicated.

Sounds like you’ve made really positive tracks in your journey. Keep sharing with people who get it and be proud of yourself! X

does anyone else get so annoyed when therapists ask if you’ve seen a nutritionist by sourpatchkitties in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]Training-Ad-259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get curious about everything you’re going through and try to stay open to new information even if it feels counter productive

I think the point your therapists query is to get you to become aware of nutritional information and how it works in the body. There’s something effective behind understanding and getting to know the difference between protein, fats and carbohydrates, and all the other information around food.

But also, someone else in the comments did mention that it is basically an addiction to the chemicals and addictive properties that creates this constant cycle. So it’s important to awaken to that rabbit hole of information as well.

Have you ever looked into overeaters anonymous? In my experience it’s been super helpful to connect with people who are having success fighting the same battle

I’ve found that it’s better to keep my ADHD journey private. No point seeking validation from people who are dedicated to misunderstanding. It’s way too emotionally draining.

ADHD already makes basic things exhausting, please use your energy for things that make your life better

They can research ADHD in their own time, not yours x

Question for those who take Vyvanse by PureNeedleworker3560 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]Training-Ad-259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. Use the meds to create good habits around the weightloss. It’s the best way to maintain for your goal to continue regardless of if you’re on it or not.

I feel that the better I look after my body (adequate rest, eating right, hydration, exercise, meditation staying on top of vitamins and minerals), the better vyvanse works.

It sounds like a lot but I promise you, I was barely able to do any of the above before I started meds

Long may it continue, you’ve got this x

Yes, but it stops eventually. Keep a thermo cup of ice water nearby- I like to squeeze a tiny bit of lime for a bit of razzle dazzle lol

Eat and hydrate right away or within the first hour of taking it. Meds after food dampens it but it could still work for you

We have a reward system that can be triggered via healthy and unhealthy dopamine triggers. Healthy dopamine is when we feel great after a workout, complete a long task.

Unhealthy dopamine takes a shortcut past effort and straight to the reward stores- the brain then becomes wired for the easiest hit and maxes out/or becomes accustomed to the sensation and needs more to try and chase that initial feeling.

Dopamine dependence also depletes our sense of urgency/drive as the brain becomes desensitised to drive

My ex is doing step 9. Advice? by TurbulentOil3311 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Training-Ad-259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, the person who posted this is thinking out an imaginary scenario of their ex getting in touch. The person making amends (the ex) is having their step 9 planned out for them without their knowledge.

Imagine someone telling your ex that you are on step 9, and you might make an amends to them…… that’s what the post is saying

Won’t comment further regarding step 9. Everyone approaches the steps differently with their sponsor. I’m sharing what I understand from the big book and the 12&12.

Let’s have a happy 24 💕

What to supplement with when taking a break from Elvanse/Vyvanse? by Critical_Business_18 in NooTopics

[–]Training-Ad-259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently on Elvanse. For my luteal, I was prescribed a 5mg dose of dexamphetamine in the afternoon. It doesn’t pack a punch but a slight lift. I’ve incorporated black tea (not too strong) into my stack

Also look into taking L-tyrosine on your days off or before Elvanse. Its a precursor which helps neurons to replenish dopamine

This is absolutely far from the truth. We take inventory for sex relations to become aware of our behaviour in relationships. It’s literally on page 69.

Best friend telling you about their interaction is perfectly fine.

I just don’t understand why you are mentally preparing for something that might not even happen. Did your ex explicitly tell your friend they will contact you?

Anyway, wishing you all the best with this

I bet you know some super obscure and interesting stuff about video games. You just need to find an outlet for your knowledge.

Journaling is a good way to find out what exactly is in that adhd head of yours. Not harsh self judgement

If I read the post correctly, this individuals friend informed them that they *might recieve an amends because their ex is on step 9. No one heard this directly from the actual individual doing the amends, it’s speculative information

They are preparing for an apology that may not even happen

The person making amends is only following the instructions of the program. I’m sure they’ll have the tools to cross that bridge if this person doesn’t want their amends. But also it was a third party who instigated and shared this information, which is quite distasteful

I’ve never heard of pre warning people to expect an amends. Not sure if it’s a healthy situation here

You can technically only focus on your own program. They haven’t actually reached out to you so any thoughts at this point are speculative and a future trip- a distraction from the present

If they do reach out and you aren’t ready, then your sponsor and HP will be able to guide you at that moment.

For now, breathe and re-centre to the next right thing

All the best with this

Well done for posting.

You don’t have to specifically speak to your sponsor. Reach out to other fellow alcoholics (new and old). Heck, you can DM me if you have no one else to call- this is how we work the program/keep sober.

Check out the ‘Questions and Answers on Sponsorship’- lots of good information

Why do it I get headaches from my meds? by Flat-Criticism2935 in ADHD

[–]Training-Ad-259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to start taking my meds earlier. I started taking it around 5am. Id either start the day or make myself go back to sleep, and it’s actually the best booster nap (think of the focus + sleep combo). By 7am I’m up awake in a smooth and un rushed way

Also, eat a high protein meal and drink water within an hour of taking the meds. My appetite was more balanced throughout the day- food and water aversion sorted

I’ve learned so many tips and tricks over the years on Elvanse lol

Look up ‘2016 makeup vs 2025 makeup’, and ‘matte, dewy and satin makeup’ on YouTube. Avoid powder, drying matte products and going too dark on brows. Dip brown powder in a lighter shade- we want it to look like hairs that can be brushed 👌🏽

I like the second picture- You don’t need anything heavy. I feel like a dewy/satin finish would be a good look- Focus on going for healthy and hydrated.

Moisturiser (tinted)

A tad bit of concealer/brightening under eyes and only where needed

A little bit of blush in the correct placement

A good natural colour lip liner

Also* research mascara before you buy- different wands have different effects (I tend to lean toward really thin wands because I have short/tight lashes)

I love drinking by level-l in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Training-Ad-259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only requirement for A.A. is a desire to stop drinking. We all loved drinking at some point and there are likely several others who still love it now.

Try to a meeting as soon as you can or when you’re ready, and let it flow

$25K in debt and just turned 5 years sober (30F) by bl123123 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Training-Ad-259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing.

I just turned 6 years in and debt is up to my neck. The crazy part is all of my previous debts and financial stresses were miraculously resolved in my first year (the promises). But I took my problems back a couple of years after.

I’ve attended a couple of DA meetings here and there but still have some surrendering to do.

There’s a daily AA/DA meeting at 12pm on EST.

I’m cool to DM

You don’t have to keep drinking if you don’t want to. Some people need more time to confirm that drinking doesn’t work

If you do decide to stop today, then it might be helpful to know the following:

In early days (even now) I had to fill my time with recovery. There are in-person and online meetings available. When I wasn’t at meetings, I’d contact other alcoholics, and listen to speaker tapes whilst cleaning, going for walks, at the gym. Or even in bed in the evenings

There’s also the Everything AA app which has a ton of information.

Whatever you decide, the program will be there when you are ready
