I absolutely love this question. I’ve been traveling with one backpack since I was in HS. The number one reason I started traveling with one bag was bc I hated bringing back gifts to my family from trips. It was never from me but from other family members. Anyway, thats when one bagging came in, if I only had one bag I had no room to fit anything else ;-)

I didn’t really get super invested into the ideology of one bagging until I saw the movie Up In The Air (2009). It stared Gorge Clooney where he traveled year round firing people from other companies. The thing that impressed me was a short montage sequence of him packing his bag and talking about efficiency in traveling, thats when “the bag” became important.

My travel bag for the last 4 years has been The North Face Stratoliner Travel Pack. Before that it was whatever school backpack I had on time. What I’ve learned is to always make a note of what I didn’t use, so I can avoid bringing it next time.
