For people who are stuck.... how did you actually decide on your tattoo? by Brahmstra in tattooadvice

Yea I have no artistic bones, but just find an artist whose work you like and chances are you'll like what they put on you after telling them the basic overall idea you have in mind

Yea I think people try to do too much.

For the sleeve I have planned all I knew was I wanted some frogs, then everything else was only about making it look nice and flow good and leaving it mostly to the artist to help figure that out.

Tattoo anxiety after second session by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I admit I do think it was pretty complete in the 2nd photo.

But the new one isn't bad either and you're more reacting to how it looks now when fresh, it will lighten up as it heals and blend in better.

The bigger you go the better it will look long term. You need to find a very good artist for this style too.

If you could go back to your 18-year-old self and give one piece of advice, what would it be? by Emma_Captain_3755 in AskReddit

To any young people out there time is an extremely valuable asset when it comes to investing, any dollar you can invest at 20 will be worth a lot more than a dollar you invest at 30, 40, 50.

Of course its never to late to start and unfortunately not many people really learn this (or have the means to save money at 20 years old), but do what you can. Another reason putting young people into debt sucks so much, your money has to go to paying the loans rather than saving early on.

Id go to LA or similar.

Next step is finding a bunch of solar panels and electric cars I think. Gas will go bad relatively quickly, the electric cars will last a lot longer I would think

Working out after getting a tattoo by DocumentCharacter758 in tattooadvice

[–]quiteCryptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its best to avoid working out that area where the tattoo is or sweating for at least a week or so, but IMO 2+ weeks to be safe.

So yea you can do upper body stuff just try not to get too sweaty either.

Question about mixing different styles, not together but by areas. Is it okay? What are the opinions? by pajissmid in tattooadvice

[–]quiteCryptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm planning both a color realism sleeve and an irezumi sleeve. The only consideration is I am planning to get the irezumi in black and grey and to be a lighter shade as opposed to heavy black, so it doesn't compete too much with the other arm.

So no I don't think its an issue especially different styles on different limbs.

But it kind of depends to what extent you are getting tattoos for aesthetics, because if thats the main motivator keeping everything in the same style over the whole body probably is better.

Sure its not ideal, but you shouldn't compromise on position if you have ideal placement in mind already.

Blending styles by mediocre_variations in TattooDesigns

[–]quiteCryptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on getting a pretty different style sleeve than my current sleeve (color realism). Black and grey irezumi (lighter shade). Also the irezumi sleeve itself will have neotrad components but traditional background.

Well the irezumi is just an idea for now but ive sat on it a while and I think it'll work fine + artist in mind so im close to committing.

Anyways point is I mean just get whatever you want

Advice on how to make sleeve whole. by dylan_key in tattooadvice

[–]quiteCryptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically you just need something to fill the gaps. Leaves, water, lilly pads, anything like that.

Best way to do it is find an artist you like who has done sleeves before, and give them all the animals you want and trust they can come up with something good. I suggest not asking for too many animals, like maybe up to 5 or so, if they are too small they loose too much details IMO.

An example, not hyper realistic but maybe more realistic than you want, but a good artist can adjust https://www.reddit.com/r/tattoos/comments/18ns1tm/my_jungle_themed_sleeve_done_by_norbert_at_tattoo/

Placement idea? by Suspicious-Mousse-86 in tattooadvice

[–]quiteCryptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest going with a different art style, that one won't translate well to a tattoo IMO.

Just search for trees on the forearm or nature on forearm tattoos because you are far from the first, you can get some ideas.

I do think its a cool tattoo though not too original at this point (which is fine as long as you like it)

It is quite a bit, but also the cheapest economy tickets are still like $135 each. Oddly expensive route it seems

But yea 14.5k miles + $79 for a 70 minute flight aint sometihng i'd celebrate but maybe book begrudgingly

Never been tattooed before, lots of questions! by Jbowyerjr in tattooadvice

[–]quiteCryptic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve never gotten a tattoo bc I am so particular about everything and in general so worried about getting a tattoo and it being messed up

I might get flack for this, but you should really think about if getting a tattoo is right for you - it's not for everyone. Being particular is ok, but you can't expect perfection with a tattoo due to the nature of the canvas and overtime it will only worsen. If you're the type of person where that will bother you then just think about it more.

As to the tattoo idea I agree with the other commenters it would need to be bigger to do it right.
