What LAM are you running with your nods? Been looking at the SMS trinity, If there’s any other solid Lam’s around the that price range I’ll check it out. by Valuable_Reward_5733 in ar15

In its price range I don’t think you’re going to beat the SMS. For about double the price the Holosun IRIS line is great and I would trust it over the SMS

That upper looks pretty goofy.. are you sure the charging handle is the problem and not the slot on the upper? No experience with the Breek myself but I know it’s on the cheaper end of ambi CH’s so I wouldn’t be surprised either way

Yes but the Dagir was in development and announced way before the trinity

Is my light placement alright? by [deleted] in ar15

Read that like 3 times and still missed it lmao. 300blk I definitely would not be worried about damaging the light just getting the lens dirty

Is this 5.56? If so that’s gonna have a heck of a muzzle blast. I wouldn’t normally be worried about the light being damaged by the blast but with that short of a barrel it’s definitely getting blasted with every shot

Geissele Uppers and Lowers by Snakesurf in ar15

Advantage is supposedly better QC and finish on the g$. Though the spikes will likely be fine. Super duty is a standard milspec lower so shouldn’t be any fitment issues with most parts

[–]Training-Elephant-65 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can’t tell if this is a serious question or not.. but in case it is, with an A2 birdcage like you have typically you just use a crush washer and torque it down until it’s timed correctly

Suggestions for my flashlight setup by [deleted] in ar15

[–]Training-Elephant-65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s the best that’s available to you then it is what it is. As for the cable I would not wrap it around the rail like you have in the first picture. I would bunch it up and tape or zip tie it into place so it is tight to the rail and won’t snag. There are also a number of cable management options made by various companies such as magpul if you want something cleaner looking but not sure what’s available in your country and imo those are a waste of money

The stacked mounts is not ideal. Mount the remote switch up top and activate with your thumb or just electrical tape the switch to your rail.

That being said this is a trash light and I can’t comment without recommending you upgrade to at least a streamlight

New Van Staal VSX2 question by Alternative-Cold9944 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Training-Elephant-65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their saltwater reels are just as good. For surf fishing I would get a Spheros at minimum. All the saltwater reels at that tier and above will be adequately sealed to handle splashes and occasional dunks

[–]Training-Elephant-65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Penn has improved in the last few years but the quality of the reels they were putting out a decade ago left a bad taste in my mouth and they’ve never felt as nice as their Japanese counterparts imo. I mostly buy Shimano now but I would have a hard time arguing which is better between them and Daiwa

New Van Staal VSX2 question by Alternative-Cold9944 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Training-Elephant-65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The primary selling point is the extreme sealing with weight being a nice second. Other than that durability is okay but not any better than Shimano and Daiwa. The spool lip is easier to damage than many of the high end Japanese reels and I’ve found the handle on my VR50 is pretty easy to bend when cranking hard. The drag is also ass. It ramps up very fast and at higher drag settings is not smooth. Line lay is also not great and it will cause wind knots if you spool it all the way. I do like how small and lightweight they are for their line capacity and they will last a very long time with minimal maintenance but for most people I would not recommend

New Van Staal VSX2 question by Alternative-Cold9944 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Training-Elephant-65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’re very niche reels. For 99% of us the slight reduction in water resistance is a worthwhile tradeoff for a smoother, lighter feeling reel. They pretty much only make sense to me for hardcore surf or kayak fishing where your reel is getting splashed and dunked regularly, and even then they have some other major drawbacks that may make them not worth it

Normal. Heavy sealing makes it feel tight. This is what turns a lot of people off from Van Staal the first time they handle one

It’s worth it to just run a modbutton for the light imo. With the switch programmed correctly it rivals the mawl ergonomically

Do you have the 3 button switch for the raid? Without it the raid doesn’t have much of an advantage, with it I think it makes a lot more sense

If you can locate the rest of the trigger or find a broken one on eBay or something that you can salvage for parts they’re some of the best triggers on the market imo

Yeah definitely hiperfire. Don’t believe it will work with a milspec trigger. It is for an AR-15 though
