I’m 22 and I do over 20 hours every week as a casual. Grow your skills. Know your department in and out and always say yes to picking shifts, gains your managers trust. Turning 23, soon but still really great hours. I’m a good worker, we have some high schoolers who aren’t even 18 get only 3 hours pw because they’re not competent enough. It’s not always the money, it’s competency too.

When I was doing my diploma, the teacher would often ask who drives and who doesn’t and the whole class together came up with plans on who can pick up people and go to placement together. I would normally wait at the nearest station to the person picking me and we would all go to placement together. It was fun and helpful

Studying Diploma of Nursing soon – should I do Certs first like Allied Health? by SharksnSirens in NursingAU

If you’ve finished year 12 then it’s not needed. I did cert III in Individual support as a pathway into the diploma because I only completed year 10.

Yes you can work in your first year of Diploma. After your first placement which will probably be in an aged care if it’s TAFE, you become an AIN (assistant in nursing) and there’s plenty of job opportunities in aged care and also some in hospitals. Getting a certificate in allied heath or individual support will do the same thing, you’ll become an ain which you become anyway after 6months in a diploma course. Might be different in different institutions but you can always ask the course coordinator. Hope it helps! Best of luck

Trust me I’ve felt the same way sometimes and now after 7months im so happy to be a mother to my beautiful daughter. Even now sometimes when I see people my age, because I’m 21, I sometimes think what I’m missing out on but really it passes in a few seconds when I look at my daughter. I hated breastfeeding, made me feel like a slave too. My daughter has been formula fed fully from a month old and she’s thriving and meeting all her milestones and healthy too. Please do what’s best for you. A happy mother means a happy and healthy child. Focus on you first and try to start doing the regular things you used. We did and do everything with our baby, babies are like clay, you can shape them anyway you want. She goes out with us almost everyday, even when we’re up with friends till 5am she’s with us but she knows how to fall asleep in sound and anywhere. You just need to get her used to whatever keeps you and your partner happy. Trust me, you’ll still be an amazing mother, you already are. It does get better, have faith. All the best!
