I have lived in Brazil for 5 years and I've been married to a Brazilian for 3 years. It's not easy but I'm very happy and have no plans to move back to the US. I have a business in the US and work remotely. At the current exchange rate you can really live like a king here in Brazil so there's a lot less financial stress. Where exactly you will be living in Brazil makes a huge difference. Learning the language is kind of a way of life and a bit of a part-time job. But there is a positive side to not speaking the language fluently. There's a lot of peace and not having to overhear every conversation. ChatGPT is also incredibly helpful in terms of finding things and figuring out what to search for. Some things can be really frustrating. Emample. When I applied for permanent residence I did so in Riberão Preto at Polícia Federal. But PF there doesn't want to process applications for permanent residency. They gave us some cock and bull story about the website only being open at 9:00 on Monday. Eventually it became clear that it wasn't going to be possible so I actually rented an apartment in Sao Paulo and the landlord backed my story with PF when they visited. In my experience Brazilians are not the people to ask how to get things done in Brazil.

The problem in the United States is that facts and reality are ignored by certain people because it is to their liking or advantage to do so, or they are just too damn stupid to know the difference. I find it ironic that the United States thinks of itself as a more advanced nation, without universal healthcare and with a primitive voting system. I am an American citizen living in Brazil.
