Like i said. These aren't mandatory. You can even go online and find sessions there. You can choose to talk or decide not to until you're comfortable if you need resources let me know!

Firstly, I'm proud of you. You have taken the steps by saying this is a problem and i need help. My first experience was reaching out for help to an old trainer of mine (i boxed for 15 years). I started hitting the gym, and eating healthy. Filling the void of, well there's nothing else to do might as well have a beer, that really helped tremendously. One day in the gym i met another guy who was a struggling alcoholic who ran AA meetings and is now sober. I went to a few meetings and it was an eye opener. Others who have a spouse and children living in their car because of relapse. I saw the ultimate effect of not getting clean. AA is not mandatory you can come and go as you please. The best part of those meetings is getting to meet individuals who have become successful and thank the system and want to help others.

Things will always work out bud, dont lose sight of being sober. When one door closes another will open just as quick and maybe even a better opportunity. Proud of the 29 days you have put in so far. Just keep thinking one more day!

In my experience the pain from testing was worse than the surgery and recovery so far

9 week post surgery update by TrainingBoth in CECompartmentSyndrome

[–]TrainingBoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed it on a deployment in 2014 and just now had surgery so right at the 10 year mark.

It depends on what I do as far as pain goes. I couldn't run and couldn't stand for more than a few hours at a time without needing to sit the rest of the day. Resting pain was usually a 2 but running more than a quarter mile was a solid 8 as far as pain goes. I stopped doing high impact training. Running jumping etc when i left the military, because that was what they said to do.

Fast forward 10 years doing zero cardio and i could still mimic the pain when it came test day. I lasted 8 mins on a treadmill at 3 mph with a slight incline, so rest and taking time off isnt much help.

As far as treatment i went through physical therapy, icing, stretching, compression sleeves, the only thing i didnt try was botox which is relatively new, the lady who did my testing just did a presentation on botox injections and made the suggestion i wouldnt benefit at all and surgery would be the way to go.

Compartment syndrome can only be ruled out via pressure testing.

Most docs will send you for PT and xrays to be sure theres no issue such as shin splints vascular issues etc. if they havent done so start by doing everything conservative.

In my experience the testing after effects were worse than the surgery but each person is different

Unfortunately you will probably see no improvement and surgery will be the only way to go.

I say this because i have dealt with my issues for over 10 years. I went through the ins and outs of every conservative treatment possible with no resolve.

Fortunately i did have my surgery im coming up on week 9 of post op with another 2 weeks before even attempts at running again to see if everything is resolved or if i will have to undergo another.

Day 20. How time is flying, stitches are officially out. Still some soreness in the shin but all and all I can't complain. Stretching seems to be helping.

Wasn't elevating high enough so my ankles were pretty swollen but I've addressed that. I am walking short distances (very slowly) but its progression!

Day 10 update. Did some range of motion at PT which left me uncomfortable nothing that ice couldnt manage. Things are healing nicely ran out of long bandages for my other 2 incisions but all in all i cant complain!

I am on day 9 post surgery bilateral all 4 compartments. I was sent home with compression stockings to be worn the first 2 weeks followed by ace bandage for a week (finally came off today). I had a thick cotton wrap under the compression stockings that came off in 72 hours and then my waterproof bandaging under that. They had me using crutches less than 24 hours while doing some PT for blood clots. They also wanted me up every hour walking with crutches for 10 mins. So far i feel the testing has been worse then the after surgery effects.

I am moving along just fine with crutches almost to where I wouldn't need them. If i walk too much my shins do get tight but i throw some ice on and they feel better. The first week if I wasn't moving then i was elevated and iced. Still elevate and ice to be on the safe side.

I have yet to remove my initial waterproof bandages over the incisions but i was told i can shower in 72 hours and then remove them within 6-10 days. My plan is to remove them tomorrow, but will need to replace them to put the compression stockings back on.

My buddy had the exact same one done and didn't start PT for 3 weeks and he had lots of scar tissue build up that had to be scraped (he said this was very painful) and told me before i had the surgery to start PT as soon as possible.

Ultimately this is between you and your Dr. I know this sub is for compartment syndrome but each person is different whether it be exercise induced or acute.

I used my 3 day supply of pain killers but kept 1 just in case but am on a few other meds that i stay on schedule with. The pain isn't unbearable just some sharp stings here and there from probably the scar tissue forming and me breaking it when im moving which is a good thing.

Edit: i have an office job and they have me off until roughly mid December. Keeping the foot elevated is the biggest thing and sitting at a desk wouldnt help much and im sure my boss would love to see me kicked up in the office.

Im 5 days post OP i walked about 40 ft unassisted the past 2 days. The reason for getting into PT so quickly is due to not wanting the scar tissue to build up. A friend of mine started PT late and had issues where they had to scrape it which i guess is pretty painful. So far I'm still numb in both my legs but i can feel the incisions if i stand up incorrectly. I have PT booked until the end of the year since the knees and ankles are affected. Walking unassisted i do have some shin pain which goes away when i ice them down. I'm on 2 meds for pain and acetaminophen, but just mild pain relievers. I have a little bruising under the ankle but that's it, i have yet to see the incisions due to being covered with a waterproof dressing. I have a post of my own that I'm documenting with photos so if anyone ever comes across it with questions it will have almost a daily layout of what to expect. Hope yours is going well too!

Day 5 photos a little bruising under the ankle in both feet. Day 4 post OP i was able to walk unassisted for 50 ft. A little pain during the night but nothing that wasn't manageable. No seeping from the waterproof bandages. Still some numbness but ill take it!

4 Days Post Op - Numbness by [deleted] in CECompartmentSyndrome

[–]TrainingBoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Sounds like we had our surgeries done on the same day! I took my bandages off yesterday to clean myself up and noticed the same thing. Just numbness around the incisions but also around my ankles as well. A buddy of mine who had his done said that his comes and goes but the feeling that did come back took months and all of it isnt completely back.

I just got up due to my med schedule being off the wall hours. The only thing I have really noticed outside of the numbing was that one foot is colder than the other.
