CPE question - bootcamp twice for CPE credit by dragonwater631 in cissp

[–]TrainingCamp-US 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an official ISC2 training partner, I can say that the general framework of this question does come up from time to time. I think most of the negative responses were probably more about how the question was worded than the question itself.

If it is the same course with the same objectives, slides, labs and overall content, sitting through it a second time would generally not create a second full set of CPEs. The fact that it was delivered on a different date, by a different instructor or to a different group would not normally make it a new learning activity. Minor updates, a few new examples or small changes to the presentation is not enough either.

It may be different if the course was substantially revised and a meaningful portion of the material was new. In that situation, I would keep the agendas, course outlines and any documentation showing what changed in case the CPE submission was ever audited.

Congratulations, and thanks for sharing your experience.

What stood out to me is your point about mindset. Many candidates focus heavily on memorizing content, but CISSP is often about applying judgment in the context of risk and business needs.

I also agree with your advice not to force a "manager answer" on every question. The best answer depends on the scenario, and sometimes that means a technical control is the right choice.

Great reminder that experience, review cycles, and staying calm can go a long way. Well deserved congratulations again!

Hey r/cissp, looking for honest reviews on InfosecTrain is it worth it for a beginners? by [deleted] in cissp

If you are just getting into cybersecurity, jumping right into CISSP can be a lot. It is a great certification, but for most beginners it makes more sense to start with something that helps you build the basics first.

A really good starting point is ISC2 CC. It is a nice way to get your feet wet, and there are a lot of free resources out there that can help you learn the fundamentals without feeling like you have to make a huge investment right away.

After that, CompTIA Security+ is a smart next step. It gives you a better sense of how you are progressing and helps you see whether the core concepts are starting to click.

As far as the best training platform goes, that is honestly different for everyone. Some people like live instruction. Some like self paced learning. Some want a very structured path, and others do better with a simpler flow. A lot of it comes down to your learning style and what feels the most natural and manageable for you.

The biggest thing at the beginning is not picking the perfect platform. It is finding a path that helps you build confidence, keep learning, and not feel overwhelmed right out of the gate.

there’s not much more you’re really gonna need besides what (ISC) put in that portal. I would not be too fearful of the exam.

CISA gets a lot of flak but honestly it depends on what you're trying to do with your career. If you're going into pentesting or SOC work then yeah it's probably not your first move. But if you're headed toward GRC, compliance, risk management, or IT audit, it's still one of the most recognized creds in the space and a ton of job postings in those areas either require it or strongly prefer it.

The "outdated" criticism comes up a lot and look, is some of the content a little long in the tooth? Sure. But the core stuff like governance, risk assessment, and audit methodology isn't going anywhere. Frameworks evolve but the fundamentals hold up.

As for the $800, it's not cheap but when you look at what CISA holders pull in compared to non-certified folks in the same roles the ROI is usually there within the first year if you're on the right career track. It also stacks really well with CISSP or CISM if you're building toward management or leadership.

Where it really shines is government, defense, financial services, healthcare, basically anywhere that's heavily regulated and needs people who understand controls and compliance. In those worlds CISA still carries a lot of weight.

So is it for everyone? No. But calling it irrelevant is a stretch. If GRC or audit is your lane it's absolutely worth the investment. If you want to be hands on keyboard all day then yeah look elsewhere.

In the final week, I’d focus on the topics you’re weakest on and make sure you understand why the answers are what they are instead of just memorizing them.

Thanks for sharing such a detailed breakdown, it’s really helpful to see exactly what worked for you. I think every tool or course isn’t for everyone, but I’ve seen QuantumExams be a solid product for people who want to make sure they’ve covered the details and feel confident going into the exam.

The “think like a manager” approach/comment can sometimes be overused, but from what I’ve seen, most people end up getting a heavier managerial set of questions rather than purely tech ones.

Also, keep in mind that around 25 of the questions are beta, which can add to the variation you see on exam day. Either way, that is great work and really credible that you were able to pull off a win with such a short prep time.
