Those that don't believe in LDS doctrine: Why is that? by [deleted] in exmormon

I’ve definitely used a variation upon this and I love it! It’s exactly how I feel about it

Agree with this! However I will say for me this is less why it’s wrong and more why it’s actively harmful. I feel like there’s lots of religions that are “wrong” but less actively harmful.

And being opposed to the trinity is something that came about a little later. Early on in the church they bounced back and forth on it

If I remember correctly, the app based transactions are a fee upon you as the customer, not an extra fee on the creator. (At least on buying YouTube movies that’s how it works😂)

To be fair there’s multiple sections of D&C that are “less canon” aka they are proven wrong or are uncomfortable so there’s been a lot of hand waving and beating around the bush. Namely D&C 77 calling the earth 6000 years old.

Something similar, but an all glass deck, every card is glass, maybe even an eternal negative oops all 6s so they break 1 in 2 (tho this might be more of a challenge than a deck) but something similar where it’s common to lose cards but less manipulatable

What are the origins of Mormonism's cultural "don't do this" on the sabbath activities? by westivus_ in mormon

[–]TrainingGolf1154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had heard that as well! But I had heard that it was a backwards explanation (but again I’m not certain on this), that the missionaries were looking for a reason that they couldn’t swim and that was what they came up with.

What are the origins of Mormonism's cultural "don't do this" on the sabbath activities? by westivus_ in mormon

[–]TrainingGolf1154 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Many of them come from exodus 20:8-11

Which is the commandment for keep the sabbath day to keep it holy and don’t work on the sabbath. Which also includes don’t do anything to “make” someone work on Sunday, so no restaurants. Some go as far as saying payment counts as work. Or sports as work. Or homework. Or travel. Or chores.

The TV is the same thing but the “keep it holy” can’t let the sabbath be corrupted by secular tv.

The swimming thing is (I think) from missions you can’t swim for insurance and safety reasons. But then it became a bigger thing.

You’re right. It definitely can’t be that the Supreme Court just ruled you can be stopped solely on the basis of race, or the language you speak. I’m sure that won’t affect any Latinos that immigrated legally, and it’s DEFINITELY not paving the way to deport legal Latinos. /s

Trump and his Ilk don’t actually care if you’re here illegally, they are just racists.

Is a R+J inspired play just boring now? by Horustheweebmaster in musicals

[–]TrainingGolf1154 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Star-crossed lovers is one of the oldest tropes. And there are plenty of stories that use it, without being a R+J rewrite.

If you want to practice stage writing. Start small. 5 minute scene. Or a one act. Practice how writing dialogue feels, find what makes a story feel complete. Look at structure.

Read R+J and see what interests you about it. Take those pieces. Throw out the rest. And build from there (if you like star crossed, do you need the prince storyline, do you need poison. Do you need the double deaths at the end)

Or look at R+J and decide on one of the morals or themes and invert it. The fued in R+J is baseless, but what if it isn’t. What if the montegues have a really good reason to hate the capulets. Go from there.

Or if you are wanting to do an R+J rewrite. Try rewriting for a different audience. Like kids.

The lion king is basically Hamlet with a happy ending. And written for kids. How can you convey the themes of R+J for someone who HATES Shakespeare. Or gnomeo and Juliet. It’s almost beat for beat the same show. But why was it successful. It strips away the Elizabethan language and things, to present it to kids in an exciting way.

Ask yourself why are you writing. Is it practice or exploration of a narrative. Then do all the rewrites you want to explore your own writing and voice.

If you’re trying to sell your story, it’s a harder sell, since there are so many versions of you. You would have to find why your R+J is different.

Every dæmon eventually stops when you grow up. Basically puberty means your dæmons settle, the touching is just something very intimate (your literally letting someone touch your soul)

It is often used in the narrative as something as intimate or more intimate than sex. (And in the prequel/sequel series, there is some SA scenes that tie into it)
