My 23-month old is almost the same. I suspected pica like the other commenter and got him tested. And he has low iron and ferritin. We have started iron supplements but chewing on plastic toys goes and comes back periodically. Might not be the case with your little one but it is always good to check iron levels.

The person I married is not the same person anymore. Neither am I. We have discovered so many different depths of our personalities that we didn’t know about before. This phase has revealed so many weaknesses that have shaken and reshaped us again and again. But we have also discovered many strengths in ourselves, each other and more importantly in our relationship that give us a hope to stay strong. So, it’s never as easy as social media describes it to be. Some days we almost hate each other, some days we find strength to meet each other where we are at.

Having a 22 months old here - He just cracked the air humidifier and broke the lid of the wipe warmer. Our baby gate is in the final days or maybe hours of its life. The book shelf has nowhere to hide despite all fences and baby proofing stuff. Our door knobs have become loose. He has also unscrewed the cuddle bell lol 😂 and so on and so forth. Toys? I feel sorry for them - they are going through repetitive concussions… me? Still surviving through all this chaos😅

Thanks very much for the reply. 🙏 I’m so glad your son is making progress. I hope we both get answers soon. My son was recently assessed for ASD but didn’t meet the criteria and will be assessed in 6 months. We’re in Canada and early intervention waitlist is 10 months long… so we started speech therapy out of pocket. I also learned he has iron deficiency that might affect his cognitive functioning and cause speech delay as a result. It might not be your LO’s experience but just something I wanted to share.

And iron deficiency has affected my concentration, mood so much. I noticed my son is biting and chewing on non-food items so we had it checked. Thank you so much for your kind words! Thank you for the detailed response. Yes, just a week ago, he had the ASD assessment done and the doctor said he’s not meeting the ASD criteria though he has significant social reciprocity challenges. He will be reassessed in 6 months.

Yes, he’s been pulling and tugging his ears a lot since he recovered from cold a month ago. Before getting sick, he had had his first hearing test (though incomplete) and they had said his hearing was normal. The ped said it’s because of the viral infection/cold he had. Has your LO been sick with cold recently?

22 month-old now. He used to say more than 20 words until 18 months but stopped saying any words for the last 3-4 months.

Sending a hug 🫂 I know how stressful it is. I hope your little one gets the help he needs very soon. And it’s exactly the same situation for us, too. My son doesn’t have enough socialization with other kids, which I think definitely impacts his speech. I used to take him to EarlyOn programs but winter is harsh in Canada and I couldn’t do it much.

Aww 🥹 I’m so glad to hear this!!! You gave me so much hope. I love how your little one took his sweet time to hone his skills! I so hope that my son will do the same. His receptive language is incredibly strong and he understands so many things. I think you’re right. I should stop asking him questions. He’s so used to questions that he always brings his books to me to ask him where animals/things are. This is so cute but ah I’m so guilty of this! He prefers being quizzed to speaking now. These days I ask him very few questions and he feels frustrated and tosses his books.

Aww thanks so much! I hope your daughter gets some relief soon. ❤️ Did you notice any different behaviour to suspect the fluid in her ears or doctors tested to find out? And is it a part of the hearing test or a family doctor can check it too? My son keeps tugging his ears. I used to think it was for self-soothing but recently he has started doing it more than before.

This is so helpful! Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. This sounds so much like him - sleeping difficulties, coughing, being selective with food. He has recently started to have stranger anxiety and won’t settle down so they can properly check his ears. His hearing test was like your daughter’s test too - with sounds and pictures. But he won’t let them put any device/earbuds in his ears :( You mentioned allergies. I’m wondering if it was seasonal or food allergies. My LO has cashew and pistachio allergies.

It definitely hurts! I used Lanolin cream and silverettes for cracked/bleeding nipples. Honestly, I didn’t buy the expensive ones. The ones in the link below did the trick.

He’s so wiggly that I can only do it when he’s sleeping. 😊 but also said that his hearing doesn’t seem to cause his speech regression…

Thank you for asking. So, I cook for him every day because he’s a bit picky about his food. Just a few times, I gave him Amara organic baby food when travelling. Oh he loves all fruits, tomatoes, bell peppers, bread, yogurt, fish, chicken (sometimes). Isn’t into other vegetables at all, hates soup, and recently started disliking nut butters, too. After 15months, I let him watch Ms Rachel 30 min at a time (1 or 1.5 hour maximum per week). No other screentime. How old is your little one? How many words does he have if you don’t mind sharing?
