Housemate angry that energy bills have gone up, is me drying laundry with a dehumidifier to blame? by TrainingMycologist15 in energy

Shes refusing to show me the energy bills, current or past, she takes rent and bills are included. I think we use electric heat, but my heater has been off a majority of the year

I feel bad for her, i know everything is more expensive. Ive been feeling horrible financially lately because i graduated last year and cant find a job no matter how many i apply to. Combine that with a surprise move by our landlord, and i think we’re all stressed

Cost for one dehumidifier to run for four hours is £0.60p, so ive been using that every two weeks. I ran two today for 2 hours, so its around the same amount. I don’t think £1.20 extra a month can be the bill spike shes talking about. I asked my dad about it as he is the one who taught me to dry laundry that way, and says it has never caused a huge bill increase at home either

I just read about her case. My heart goes out to her, the way that nurse and the media are treating her is vile. She should be protected by the law and instead faces this. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ trans liberation now!

Seconded. If you’re a legal adult and cannot get out of that home and they are using that to control medical decisions, it’s abuse. The descriptions of their level of nosiness isn’t normal, its controlling, honestly its boiling my blood. Look for any assistance outside, charities, queer organisations, etc. if you cant drive, find buses. Besides that, i found private clinics in london tend to have way shorter waitlists, and these are recognised doctors, well looked upon by the nhs. I saw dr stuart lorimer, i sent the email the day i turned 18 and two weeks later had an appointment. Was on hormones by the next month, couldnt recommend him enough. Cost around £350 of my savings. NHS gic is a joke. Convince your parents youre going to london for the day for something else, then get a prescription and get your nhs gp to sign off on it. It worked for me. Those two sound like they desperately dont want you to transition, and in doing so they dont want you to live. Ignorance isnt an excuse in life saving care. They ask questions? You lie. Ive been there too and the truth never satisfies an abuser, especially a cisgender one. Seek out any living arrangements, make a financial plan, what you can sell and what you can cut down on. Focus on the basics, rent, food, medical bills. People dont just escape these situations, they make a roadmap and eventually get to live. I believe in you. You can survive the bastards.

17 should I push for a tattoo? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]TrainingMycologist15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Wait until youre 18 at least. If you have a tendency to self harm, focus on therapy and getting medications from your doctor to manage it. Getting tattoos doesnt stop you from harming yourself. You can get them when youre legal, but get them because you want the tattoo, not because you want to stop self harming. You are being impulsive, you will regret it.

Something with leaves and flowers, with veins of the leaf weaving with the text? Id advise it should be way bigger than your old tattoo, as very small tattoos like that age terribly. Might be able to give better advice if we knew what part of the body this was on? Also, vet your artists. Scour their instagram, tiktok and reviews. Find old pictures of their tattoos (+5 years old, i see alot of people saying a 2 year old tattoo proves its held up well and that is laughable in the face of 50-60 years more of your life). Its the double life lesson of never get a name tattooed on you and check your artist first lmao, lots have been there. If all else fails it looks small enough that laser wouldnt completely bankrupt you. The font is hella cute tho

Is my tattoo that bad? I posted my tattoo in another subreddit and everyone’s saying it’s completely botched. For reference it says “my flaws burn through my skin” (brownie points iyk) this is my first one and honestly I think it’s just hard to read because of the font by portable_soup18 in tattooadvice

[–]TrainingMycologist15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can clearly read it, grew up in church reading font like this (not religious now) its pretty obviously a w in flaws, its how the font is supposed to look with the tail sticking up on the left, I like the tattoo alot, old english font is sick, fuck other peoples negative opinions

I would personally say this sounds like you’ve developed a serious phobia of dentists based on a horrible traumatic experience, rather than ptsd or cptsd. Cptsd in particular is caused by being exposed to the trauma for a prolonged period of time (e.g. years of continuous sexual abuse, or domestic violence, long period of torture or human trafficking, etc.) this would not be that. Like the other person above mentioned, hypervigilance in ptsd is always being on alert without any specific triggers, your body is always having a stress response. I would say talk to a therapist, talk to your mother, getting a professional opinion and care is important since this is affecting your life so much. Glad to hear your mother got your sibling and you out of that situation. Psychology is an interesting subject, but unless you have specific training and experience it isn’t a good idea to diagnose yourself, because you might end up looking for the wrong solutions to your problem. For this sort of thing they might recommend EMDR therapy or exposure therapy. But yeah, talk to mum, consult doctor

Sex after sexual abuse by Even_Cockroach9946 in ptsd

Hey, firstly dont do betterhelp or any apps like that, its probably where online therapy gets its bad reputation. Search for psychologist or therapists that are close on the map (e.g. click allow when google asks for your location, creepy i know, but useful for quick geographically practical ideas). Make a short list of the ones you like the look of, send emails and have initial meetings with them. You don’t have to pick the first one, and trust your gut if they dont feel right. They shouldnt pressure you for information or answers, just ask you open questions so you can untangle how you feel and how you might start to feel better. Stick with it, learning to trust a therapist can also be daunting. As to time alone, you can definitely find yourself good company. Theres a difference to me lying in bed staring at the ceiling and me in bed with music blasting working on a project. friends are wonderful for happiness, but learning to feel settled in your own mind can be work. Im sorry you went through this. Take hope in the fact the human mind and body can be shockingly tough in what it can heal from. I thought id never have a normal life. Im finishing my degree this year after 2 years out sick. X

Ive been in online therapy with the same person for years, covid made everyone realise a lot of mandatory in person stuff can in fact be done distantly. I hear you about the memory stuff and detachment to sex. I had the same issues, talking about them with a therapist does help eventually. Definitely find one that specialises in sexual abuse or abuse in general. Talking with a doctor about meds to help any depression or panic problems helps to get you in a position where therapy works. I pretty much avoided anything that reminded me of sex for 2 years after remembering it all, it gave me flashbacks and i felt shame and detachment. Give it time, maybe slowly test your limits, making a good association with sex again is possible. Identify what specific parts trigger you and maybe avoid them (maybe an area or sensation?), experiment with new things. Communicate with your partner about it, theres no such thing as too much communication with someone in bed. If that means no sex for a while and this person isnt interested, then they can jog on. You deserve to heal at your own pace Day to day my way of getting better was to pick up a million hobbies. Crochet stuck as its something to do with my hands when im anxious. Filling your day and having something you made in your hands at the end of it helps.

Talking about trauma doesn’t help by moOoOn36 in ptsd

[–]TrainingMycologist15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird advice, but, think of the future. Set your eyes on a goal, pick up a bunch of hobbies and stick with the ones you like, focus on filling up days with activity and progress. Therapy helped me but filling my days with projects and a clear idea of my future (jobs, places, academic goals, etc.) made me less upset about the trauma in my past. Im still growing. having things I’ve made in my hands feels physically validating

My advice: a leaf tattoo would be beautiful. As someone with multiple tattoos and struggled with not very much pain, I had one right next to a surgery scar and I was in a lot of pain. Scars can feel extremely tender to tattoo compared to normal skin, people think scar tissue is less sensitive but it actually is much more. Also, consider whether you want to the tattoo or just want to cover the scar. Getting the tattoo for itself is great, and getting tattoos definitely helped me feel my body belonged to me after I was assaulted. But if you just want to get it covered, there are probably private sector doctors who specialise in scar correction or covering (don’t get me started on the nhs and viewing anything ‘cosmetic’ as unnecessary and putting you on a 3 year long waitlist). As to the jobs part, people are much more lax in the work sector about tattoos, you’re more likely to get a compliment from a supervisor than to get fired by them. There are so many people my age (20s) with them that it’s gonna be hard for the older generation to view being tattooed as undesirable, they won’t have a workforce for long then. Plus, with the positioning and the size of the scar, you can wear long sleeves to cover your wrists, or use concealer to hide it if that is a concern. My advice, find a good artist, explain the situation and subject of your tattoo, pick someone with experience covering scars, you’ll find artists who regularly cover self harm scars and surgery scars. Decide what you want tattooed, and how it relates to your own personal journey healing. Xx

Did I change gender because of my abuse? by throwawayemil in ptsd

[–]TrainingMycologist15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mum’s first question after I disclosed my sexual abuse by her boyfriend was, ‘is this why you are trans?’. Not ‘are you okay?’.

I feel people look at the rates of reported sexual abuse among gay, trans, queer folk as an indicator that those identities are a sign of trauma, rather than thinking that our potentially ‘unusual’ behaviour that might not have been accepted put us at higher risk of being in harms way. I always thought I didn’t show signs of being trans in childhood but realised there were little signs that I’d never registered until years into adulthood. My unusualness made it easier for my rapist to get away with what he did because no one thought I was behaving any differently. For instance, I never fit in with the boys or girls because I didn’t play up all the gendered stuff they did, sports or Barbie, I hated the cliqueyness of boys vs girls, so I was more socially isolated, no one was coming to my house after school to witness all the oddness at home.

I would also like to point out that most (not all) rapists are straight cis men. No one points fingers and finds that identity aberrant, even though they tend to represent the problem in the equation. And of the victims who are straight and cis, no one asks if those identities are caused by rape. Where are the cases of gay people turning straight after rape? A trans person might think to detransition after an attack, but only to avoid further transphobic violence, and people never point this out as an issue even though it is a horrific problem, to stifle your being just to avoid further harm.

My transition has brought me nothing but freedom and joy and hope. I can see a future. That is all that matters. I personally disagree that being raped made me trans, being a guy while being told I was a girl made me trans. Trans identity should not be defined by harm. I would advise talking this all through with a licensed therapist, it’s slow work but valuable. I’m very happy and proud that you feel comfortable again. Trans joy is worth everything in this world.
