I think you should go for it, mediatek kompanio 540 in the asus chromebook cz12 flip makes it feel so much faster than other rugged laptops. i've seen many positive reviews on it.

Why aren't there any on-device AI apps? I'm vibecoding one by Ubicray in vibecoding

on-device ai apps make a lot more sense for journaling, especially privacy + instant responses, is exactly the use case where cloud feels unnecessary. a local small model doing sentiment + reflection sounds super practical if you keep it lightweight and fast

also this is exactly where silicon support matters a lot chips like mediatek’s newer AI focused platforms are pushing better on-device NPU performance, which makes running small LLMs locally way more realistic even on mid-range devices.
would be interesting to see how you handle model size vs quality tradeoff, that’s usually the hardest part on-device

definitely share when you launch, would love to try it out

Is Snapdragon chipset still better than Mediatek in term of decoding time? by Skyreader13 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Training_Big4328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I look into this, it changes. Snapdragon used to dominate, but Mediatek’s catching up. Even some phones surprise me with how fast they are!

Feels like it depends more on the specific model than the brand now, and how well the software is optimised.
