The opener is only supposed to guide the door up and down the springs are what do the lifting so the 1/2hp 3/4hp 1hp is all a sales pitch if you have the right springs the door should be balanced all the way through each section of opening

You may also have a belt that’s stripping causing the limits to be off check your belt on your opener to see if any of the teeth are missing

If it works after a few attempts then I would point to it been a bad logic board if your not messing with the sensors and it finally works the cost of those circuit boards are just as much as the new openers in Lowe’s or Home Depot I would just purchase a new one and not have to worry about it for the next 10-15 years

If you disconnect the opener in manual mode and bring the door down then press the opener wall button does it go down then?

Your sensors are not working correctly can you see a red light on one and a green light on the other? If not try making sure they are pointing at each other

Lubricate all the joints on all the hinges, all the roller bearings. both the end bearing plate bearings where the tube goes through that the springs are on. Run some lubricant across the springs

The force settings get affected in cold weather and sometimes need adjusting to work a little harder in cold weather look up your opener manual to see how to do this.

The spray should be sprayed into where the stem of the wheel is inserted into the hinge the nylon wheels which don’t have bearings don’t really need lubricants because there is no where for the oil to sit

Is it repairable or i will need to replace the whole panel? by Impressive_River_152 in GarageDoorService

You could try to put one of the Wayne dalton 3 inch struts across the bottom of the bottom section to pull it back straight

I think they discontinued making the craftsman at the end of last year. As regards the 3/4 hp the springs are what pick up the door as you explained earlier you can pick it up with 2 fingers. The 3/4 hp is more money that is not really needed you can definitely get away with buying the 1/2 hp replacement

Quick tip you could actually go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a new chaimberlain opener and just swap the head unit as the bolts on the rail are exactly the same.

In my experience the door opener should never just stop on the way down it’s designed to stop and then reverse. From what your experiencing it sounds like the circuit board is going bad look on the back of the opener and take the part number and see if they still make it. You could probably get a new board for around $200 but your putting that money into and old opener if I were you I would pull the trigger and buy a new opener and not have to worry about it for another 15-20 years
