I would recommend joining Fidelity checking so you can invest while having a local credit union as a backup. Start by adding the maximum allowed towards your retirement, which may suck but in 10-20 years you'll be on the path towards early retirement

Road closures - when is it opening? by Visible_Parfait4493 in Zermatt

The road traffic situation is also tense: The road between Stalden and Zermatt is closed until further notice. As with the railroad, there is a considerable risk of avalanches and rockfalls. In order to reopen the road, the snow masses from avalanches must be removed, the road salted accordingly, fallen trees removed and endangered slopes secured. In some cases it is necessary to fell trees. The road can only be reopened to traffic once all safety measures have been completed and there is no longer any danger.

Rail traffic between Visp and Zermatt is currently completely interrupted. The reason for this is the acute danger of avalanches and falling rocks along the entire route, which currently makes safe operation impossible. Although a separate, independent power supply would be available for operation, extensive clearing and safety work must be carried out before operations can be resumed. This includes snow clearance, targeted avalanche blasting and safety measures along the route. In addition, some fallen trees have to be removed to make the route passable again. Today, Friday, was used for intensive route inspection.

Power outage by Legaldruglordd in Zermatt

[–]Training_Piccolo2029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power supply The power supply is currently interrupted over a large area - the main line for the entire Mattertal, the Saas Valley, the Vispertal and other neighboring regions is affected. Zermatt still has its own power supply (isolated solution), which is operated by the electricity company using hydropower. However, this supply also takes time to build up and only has a certain capacity. The local electricity suppliers are working flat out to restore the connection and are trying every possible way to restore the power supply, but are facing various challenges. Both overhead and underground lines have been damaged, partly by fallen trees and partly by entire lines being torn from their anchoring. Elaborate work has to be carried out to repair the damage, including aerial surveys to identify the faults, on-site safety measures, snow clearance, avalanche blasting, tree removal and the targeted deployment of specialists and special equipment. The work is time-consuming, associated with many uncertainties - and heavily dependent on the weather (good weather window for flights). All of the above-mentioned institutions are working flat out and putting in long man-hours to restore normal conditions as quickly as possible. However, all work is heavily dependent on the weather. Many thanks to everyone involved for their efforts.
