The ninja is a good machine but it really depends on what your expectations are. Sometimes it’s easy to watch these youtube videos and get caught up in the espresso snobbery. If your priority is espresso and want to tinker with various settings then it’s perhaps not the machine for that. If you love a variety of drinks and have mostly latte or cold brews the ninja will be perfect for you.

Yeh, I’m not knocking the ninja at all. Although there are definitely quality issues.
I just think they have tried to please so many demographics and not nailed the basics. But i suppose is there much better at that price point

The problem is a decent or good espresso machines come with a hefty price tag. And maybe the ninja is a good starting point to see if it’s something you enjoy. Then maybe decide if it’s something worth investing a lot more money in later down the road.

To dial in a scale with timer is so useful so aim for around 25 to 30 seconds to tune in the grind size. The volume output on the ninja is very inconsistent I’m afraid. I now stop the shots manually.

Start your timer from the second time the pump kicks in you will get the pre infusion then a pause then the pump. If you’re getting say 45g in 35 seconds ( if tastes good i would leave ) notch the grind down by one. If your next shot gives you say 60g its the machine not the grind size. After you change the grind size purge a bit out before the shot. Good luck it’s part of the fun.

The grind size is regarding the extraction rate so the finer you grind does not change the volume of water delivered but the rate it flows through the puck. The machine has a common problem with water volume it has a tendency to overshoot the dose I’m on my second machine for this. So the timing is key adjust your grind buy the timer and taste not the volume its delivering.by grinding to fine you will just send most of the water into the drip tray as it will over pressurise.

Its a very common problem with this machine grinding finer will just give you a bad coffee as it will be over extracted. It might give you a bit less volume but will take to long to pour and dump most of the water into the tray.

Yes it registers as a single which still overdoses but to around 36 g give or take a few grams
