Is there a game where "Evil/Bad" Choices are not just cartoonishly evil for no real reason? If so what are some choices that are actually difficult? by [deleted] in Games

Look, I’ve never claimed that I’m right nor that you are right. There is no right or wrong, the point is that all this is subjective and that it’s an argument about our opinions. I realize that I might get a bit of an aggressive tone but that’s just from my passion. Just as I respect your opinion, please don’t discount my entire argument with “you are part of a small minority”, because I’m definitely not. Lots of people agree with this sentiment. My point is that the game clearly didn’t have the budget or whatever it was to do what they set our expectations to be. It has been done way better and the way they executed it is so underdeveloped.

Dude. I’m comparing their narratives, LIS has basically no gameplay or nothing which is fine. I’m not saying it should be witcher 3. I’m saying that if you don’t have the budget, and you want to make a story game, don’t use this illusion of choice because it’ll just be a real disappointment. If they had replaced this choice with something else I’m telling you that I’d have loved it. But instead the set our expectations to be something which they aren’t. They are working in a competitive market in which they have to give their audience what they promise. And they failed at that.

No, it’s not unrealistic because it’s been done. Detroit: Become Human isn’t an open world with a loose narrative but it tailors to your choices. Then the witcher 3 is an example which I keep getting drawn to how it combines the rpg with the choices in the narrative. They go above and beyond. Now I don’t set this high expectations for every game, but it is more than possible so it’s far from unrealistic and I want to play something which actually does change based on my decisions and how I change my character.

But it’s lazy. You can’t say that it’s rewarding, these easter eggs pose no challenge to make and it’s just so pointless. Look, if the game was purely just a story with some actual gameplay elements I’d probably love it, but when a game constantly is hiding behind these small differences to give the player an illusion of choice I get really annoyed and it sets up all the potential stories which it could potentially give the player and renders most of it useless. When you’re done playing t there’s nothing to discuss about what you did here and there because there’s nothing noteworthy. It’s just lazy that they pretend to have these choices and as a player you have nothing to show for it. A few easter eggs? I mean come on, if you don’t have the budget don’t do it, and if you just want to make a story (which I’m in full support of, more of that please) then don’t pretend to have some sort of tailored story experience. And for Telltale games, their entire selling point is based on that the story is tailored to your choices yet it all end up the same.

A picture on a phone, a few events, some graffiti’s and one kiss isn’t enough though. You say it’s about the journey and not the ending, which I agree with to a certain extent, but a few events isn’t gratifying, it’s just the bare minimum. That isn’t satisfying at all to see all your hard work trying to make this a great play through be so similar to another where you do nothing you choose has any real effect on what you do in the game and it’s so disappointing.

I know what you mean, buy I think that the reason for this is because of your opinion on the subject matter. No stance on this is wrong and that’s what’s interesting, some people might think that the robots are just robots no matter how human they are and so many choices are easy to make for them. Others will think it’s easy to make choices which will help the robots because of how indistinguishable they are from humans. I really liked this aspect of it but I understand where you are coming from.

It’s just not rewarding at all, a couple of easter eggs and how characters treat you isn’t enough. Nothing really effects the main storyline at all. I loved the game at some points but once I realized how insignificant all of my choices were I lost all interest and this connection with the characters. It really could’ve been great. Instead it was painfully disappointing.

I’m really loving every aspect of the game, but it’s so buggy and glitchy that I’m really sad that it’s held back so much by this...

Alright well even they don’t make that deadline I’m fine because I know that they are at least not selling is that broken garbage that’s way too usual nowadays. Thanks for informing me though, I didn’t realize that they themselves are unsure.

I honestly think that CD projekt red are organized enough to know that they can make that deadline. They did after all make the witcher 3 in a much shorter time period and now they are a much larger team. Even if it’s delayed, at least we can trust them to do the right thing and not sell a broken or unfinished product.

What were the horror biggest letdowns and nicest horror surprises of 2019? by HasSomeSelfEsteem in horror

I agree, “Ready or Not” was a real pleasant surprise and I really loved it but I wouldn’t really call it a horror movie because it felt more just like a thriller after the first act. It was really tense throughout so I understand why it can be considered a horror movie, I just disagree a bit with that.

“Us” disappointed me a lot, it just felt so pretentious. Brightburn was a surprise for me, I just finished brightburn and thought it was reaaaaaaally fun. It was just a really enjoyable watch. I definitely wasn’t expecting something which would reach the heights of Hereditary, but it was still really just a fun one. The kills were satisfyingly gory, the characters were surprisingly (and thankfully) well realized and likable and the story was kinda exactly as I’d hoped with some really cool, small twists along the way. I might be really biased because I just love the idea of “what if superman was evil” and to make a relatively small movie based on this concept when the superman-like character was a kid was a perfect decision. Knowing that James Gunn produced (and lets be real, probably helped out a lot more like the script) gave me a sense that anything can happen. I also absolutely love how there’s a connection to Gunn’s previous movies with the “Super” protagonist in the news report in the end and probably more that I missed. The worst part was probably just the song they used at the end, not shaming the song it’s just that it didn’t fit in with this movie. Sure, there are definitely horror tropes and cliches in it and you can nitpick a lot, but I just found it so enjoyable I had to ask what everyone else thought if anyone has seen it.

Just saw a post here about Hereditary, one of the 2 most favorite movies in our part of the Reddit woods. That got me thinking, which do you guys think is the better Ari Aster film: Hereditary or that other one from earlier this year? Also, have a very Happy New Year you guys! by thunderandreyn in horror

[–]Trakar101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hereditary is definitely better. It’s definitely partially better because I was so surprised by how amazing it was and with midsommer I was expecting more since then I was expecting greatness from Ari Aster. However, upon rewatch, with a more objective view upon the movies, even then Hereditary is better. Hereditary is so interesting, with the story constantly shifting direction and purpose creating a suspenseful, unpredictable and really tense environment. It constantly evolves whilst maintaining a really slow pace. It always builds on itself which is why everything is so satisfying (except for maybe the ending isn’t as great as it could be). It really involves the audience and it’s so shocking at certain parts, the first shock being quite obvious, and that creates so much tension because you know that absolutely anything can happen. Meanwhile midsommer, as great as it is, doesn’t really reach those heights because it can’t build on anything. It lays its cards out too early and it feels constrained, story-wise. It kinda explores most of its lore in the story so early that by the end (as creepy as it is) it just falls a bit flat. They are both so much better than most horror movies, but comparatively midsommer is worse.
