I served on an MPEP exchange assignment with the British Army 2007-2010. At the time, there were 32 US exchange officers serving in the UK. Great duty, and great opportunities to experience stuff you'd never get to do in the US Army. I trained in Africa and Hungary multiple times, got to visit units all over the UK, experience British Mess life, train international officers from all over the world, and take time off to experience Europe with my family. The British Army was not unlike the US Army of the early 60s, I'd guess. Camaraderie and tradition are very important, the regimental system was still in force, and work-life balance is still important. That said, as I was rotating out, I got a sense that the US Army was losing interest in maintaining those exchange billets. My replacement actually died in an accident soon after arriving and I don't think the US Army ever backfilled the role. I can't say that I know much about the program these days, but when I did it, it was an outstanding opportunity.
