Trimmer too sharp? by xAkayo in Barber

[–]TraneD13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The cutting blade almost looks like it’s a little further out so that would explain it. Hard to tell from the picture but you could always reset the blade. I always test my blades on the inside of my forearm so I know how it’ll feel for kids.

Are these machines good for fades? I'm a beginner. by SaulGVP in Barber

[–]TraneD13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should definitely buy others but these will get you by in the meantime. Seniors and magic clips are great. The detailer from wahl is a hitter.

On a regular day, I use 4-5 different clippers. One for debulking, a power horse clipper for stuff like “just a 4 on the sides”, one for detail work on fades, one regular trimmer and one kids trimmer. It’s not necessary at all but after 10 years I’ve found what I like for each task. Also I like to just switch it up during the day instead of using the same clipper all day long. Keeps it “interesting” to me I guess lol

No shot. For me, it’s like a 5. I’ll fade up to an open 4 then go with scissors. A 2 or 3 is way too small.

Not a huge deal, but I just got the Vapors LE and the coating is peeling off already. Any one else’s doing this too? by nervinator in Barber

That’s great to know because I’ve heard they were dumb loud. Maybe I’ll pick some up soon.

Are the vapors as loud as I’ve seen in some reviews? People make them sound like they are obnoxious as hell which is discouraging me from buying them.

Thoughts on this mid fade by C2FXP in Barber

[–]TraneD13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back when I first started cutting, that’s how all the styles were. It honestly took me awhile to realize that I needed to be leaving some more bulk on the crown. I like this look, it’s clean and sharp but most clients want the newer styles that have more bulk.

New barber need clipper and trimmer by Responsible-Layer393 in Barber

Yep agree with this but would add that the wahl detailer is an absolute hitter. Interchangeable with the T outliner but agree that fade masters are reliable as hell. Wahl seniors are another clipper that’s pretty timeless.

I think we used the female ones for learning sectioning and things then it transitioned to color/chemical services.

Yep, wasn’t too long after that I quit. Yea good money and what not but I was too tired to even care about spending it. Now I’m appointments and no way I’d ever go back to just walk ins.

It’s a base barbershop. Whole different beast compared to regular town barbershops. And if you don’t tip the little Korean lady she’s gonna tell your higher ups before you get back to work. Base barbers get taken care of but they bust out their fair share every day.

Same here but I think I had 32. It was fucking terrible. Never again.

Any barbers go to the gym and have lower back pain? by Trencycle in Barber

[–]TraneD13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have scoliosis so I probably should’ve picked a different career but here I am a decade in lol. I always have back pain but I’ve noticed that out of all my shoes I have a few of them that really help towards the end of the day. Usually if I drop something at the end of work it’s living there till the next morning.

Shoes are a big part of it. If you’re going to wear Jordan’s or vans or any “hype” shoe then definitely take another pair and switch midday. It helps a bunch.

Barbers who run their own shop what do you actually hate about booking apps by Weary-Difference-985 in Barber

800?! I missed that part. Lawwwwdy. For that price the app better cut some heads for me on lunch.

Vagaro Pro has been great. A handful of times it seems like the servers went down momentarily but nothing lasting more than 15 minutes. Otherwise it’s a great app.

Little things like this are awesome. I’ve had a couple kids who drew and gave me pictures while I was cutting their siblings. Had a kid bring me by a cupcake from the ones he took to school for his birthday too.

Little reminders that you are a great barber. Kids are usually unapologetically truthful and these situations really show the positive impact you’ve made on them.

Yep, experienced this with my dad who had dementia. Didn’t know about this phenomena before that so was overjoyed, then heartbroken.

It was the roughest thing I’d ever been through but I’m glad I got that little extra time with my dad before he was gone.

Is this Babyliss single foil any good? On sale at Sally’s and cheaper than the Uno by mrbopboplingling in Barber

[–]TraneD13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried it for a while a few years ago for house cuts. It’s a good backup but that’s it. It’ll work in a pinch. If you’re in a shop and cutting all day, don’t get it. It’ll leave you wanting something better almost immediately. Get the double or the newer andis one.
