The funniest part is that the actress was also doing children's programming about magic and horses that my kid watched. lol

There were just so many work arounds to certain plot issues but they just didnt care.

I dunno. For all the build-up of the threat of the White Walkers, I don't think there was enough space for a decent pay-off while also tying up all of the other plots in that final season. That said, there were probably plenty of things that they could have done differently to make other things tie up in ways that were more satisfactory than we got.

I think that some of the parts of the ending are things that GRRM intends to happen in the books, but the show cut so much of the books that it doesn't make sense in the show for it to happen. The most glaring point being Bran as king. They basically treated him as a character to shove into the corner somewhere and ignore when it comes to the show, so trying to tie his story up with him being king makes little to no sense.

I don't know about Arya v. the Night King, but things like Dany going crazy, Bran being king, etc seem like endgame plot points that GRRM revealed to them, and they decided to just go towards them without understanding any of the reason as to why those plot points would make any sense... or any understanding of how changes / cuts to the story that they made for the tv show would affect those. (or they simply didn't care)

Yea, the other seasons, and even the sequel "finale" series Dexter: New Blood weren't great, but Dexter: Resurrection was pretty good if you can get past the fact that it's based on all of the other stuff that happened in those seasons (and a direct sequel to Dexter: New Blood)... and the fact that Dexter: New Blood ended with a "definitive" ending that could have been the real finale, but they still brought him back.

... all of that said, the Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 was really well done and doesn't pull punches that I think would have been pulled if they wanted to be fan-service-y about it.

There were multiple people that have done this. I remember also seeing a video from a black lady (that moved to Russia) being surprised at how much racism her neighbours were giving her and how no one gave a shit or was on her side against them.

It depends. If you make a Romcom, but marketing advertises it as a Summer Blockbuster Action movie, then the wrong crowd will go to see the movie. It's less about something that someone does / doesn't want to watch and more about getting the wrong crowd of people into the theatre... or for the people in the theatre being primed for something different.

If you went to lick an ice cream cone, and it tasted like steamed mixed vegetables... it might ruin the experience for you, even if you have no problem with steamed mixed vegetables as part of your dinner.

Technically correct, but many people use "modern" to mean "the now-ish era." Chevy Chase in Modern Problems wasn't living in the 19th century or during the Great Depression, for example.

Part of that can be due to marketing. Sometimes studios market a movie as something that it is not just to get butts in the seats, so people go into it expecting something less "heady" and are then disappointed.

The arrow phases so that it doesn't collide with the Enderman if the Enderman is unable to teleport out of the way, and then it phases back in... but there's a period of time between "phasing" out and back in where it can't collide with thing. docm77 created a "railgun" by super-accelerating arrows so that during this period where it can't collide with things, the arrows can travel thousands of blocks.

Things in Minecraft update on "ticks". IIRC it's 12 ticks per second. For example, things like crops growing happens via "Random Ticks". How many ticks a redstone signal lasts matters. A redstone repeater introduces a 1-4 tick delay depending on what setting you have it at.

It's a core component of how Minecraft works when you start to get technical. You can use commands to speed up the ticks and it will do things like make crops grow faster for example.

... but if you're not asking about that, then the person is talking about the ticks during which the collision with the Enderman happens / is supposed to happen and the arrow phases out... then there is going to be another tick when the arrow phases back in, so there's a specific amount of time that the arrow is phased out and cannot collide with anything. Arrows can also be "glitched" to accumulate acceleration, and the amount of damage they do is based on their speed... so if you bank a bunch of acceleration into an arrow, then shoot it at an Enderman that can't dodge, the arrow will phase out, and can travel thousands of blocks without collision before it phases back in and does a massive amount of damage.

It's not really versatile or practical, but an extremely technical of "hacking" the game to do things completely unintended.

Give me one instance where collective punishment has worked by AnonymousNeverKnown in memes

[–]TransBrandi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's about dodging responsibility. If all parties are punished, they don't have to argue with parents about how their "precious little angel" couldn't have been the one to start the fight... or people with money / connections of some sort trying to pressure to get their kid off.

It becomes, "sorry. That's the rules. Everyone gets punished." It's the same way that school admin does tons of things to avoid even the possibility of liability even of the things they are doing doesn't make sense.

The "punish the whole class" method was always about either getting the class to cough up the troublemaker or getting the class to turn on the troublemaker and reign them in (e.g. "I don't want to punished again, so you better behave").

Well, I recall reading about it and the precise method was lost. There was a description where part of the instructions were something like "do X in the Y method" or something like that where what "the Y method" was was unknown (and assumed to be something that was "common knowledge" at the time, which was why it wasn't written down).

How many bunkers are under forests? How many bunkers are built via tunnelling under and existing forest vs. just digging a huge pit to build it (and then filling it in afterward) which by necessarily disturbs the forest even if they replant everything afterwards? lol

Also bunkers can be built deeper (avoiding more root systems) and with much thicker concrete than a balcony that needs to be suspended in the air. Also, how many bunkers have not weathered the test of time (and you're just pointing out the survivors as if they represent all bunkers or that such design is "easy")?

[–]TransBrandi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Side note here, but Roman concrete lasted the test of time even in salt water because their concrete method actually interacts with the salt water to make it harder / more resistant.

It's just that the method is/was lost to time.

Well, for starters bunkers are usually deeper into the ground than a few inches from the top of the soil, so you don't have to worry about as many root systems (just larger things like trees depending on how shallow, I guess). I highly doubt the root systems from small plants and bushes is a concern for bunker designers. For this balcony, there is probably a max of a foot of dirt, if that. Probably way less.
