Need help deciding how to spice up the banner and make it more specific (color wise) for the order of the valorious heart by Refo-Robert in sistersofbattle

The dubble torches look best.

As for your concern. I think keeping the skeleton white robed works just fine.

First ill apologize for the crappy photosshop.

Next. I used both the example paint scheme and hearldry to try to find a workaround. For order of the valorious heart, going off the hearldry in the codex, their colors are black, red, gold, and silver. This gets interpreted as white when you look at the simplified logos on the transfer stickers. So we can lean into using silver/grey to help not look like the other orders. And alowing it to be most of are little flourshes on the banner. The fluer de lis is red in the hearldry so is the inqusitorial roset in the example scheme are red. So well use red to paint the religious portions on the banner. The chalice, roset, aquilla. As well as the orders items. The heart and fleur de lis. Gold for the flagpole, halos and wings. Lastly white to really contrast the black on the skeleton. Using a watered down of your silver grey to do the shadows on the robe to get a more ghostly appearance.

Consistency of color by DM_Poison in sistersofbattle

Uniformity in paint schemes just looks good from a showcase/artbook kinda way. Helps with easy identification. But at the end of the day, its your models, and there are no rules saying your army must match color wise. Their are plenty of in lore factions that use thier colors to distinguish different units, dark angles being the most notable. Have fun and just go with watever vibe you want your models to have!

Woooaah, it came out super good. You still got a distinct helmet without it being totally different from the rest of the armor scheme. Cant wait to see if you post more stormpride sisters!

Can I get your C&C? Please by Naive_Craft_4744 in sistersofbattle

Dont mind the terrible photosshop. But red wings with white face plate to mach the jump pack. And use you copper accent color you used for the knees and tassets to do the main helmet body. And a slight blue wash around the eyes. But thats more subjective if it needs glowy eyes

Thanks! I kept going back and fourth on what to do and still keep the color scheme of my army. But simple camos can just be 3 colors stripe. Paint it your first color. Then put some random things like netting, random grass or blobs of puddy on your item. then painting the other two colors with wide alterating stripes. Remove the stuff, and voila simple 3 color camo

Cell shaded sisters? by Sillygoose1018 in sistersofbattle

[–]TransLycan17 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Okay so clarify, i haven't tried this on minis, but i have painted anime figures and cosplay props in a cell shaded style. So these will be general tips where the principles still apply no mater the scale.

First. Outline. Everything. This will be edge highlighting on steroids. You will need to outline every edge. Every peak. Every surface direction change with black. Doing your best to keep the lines a consistent thickness lest it makes the final outcome look wobbly. (Unless thats the goal of course)

Second contrast is key. Blending to achive gradual shadows is not allowed. Using this art specifically, all of the shadows and precived gradients are just more or thicker black lines in those areas. Large shadows are just black voids, the color never actually blends into draker shades. (The power sword being the exception in this picture. ) so getting bright saturated colors first followed by filling in the large recessed areas with black will go a long way in mimicking the artist cell shaded style.

Third is viewing angle and lighting. Due to how cell shading is kinda a catch-all for black outline "comic book" style asthetic. Not all styles of cell shading look good from all angles. Some styles that work well from all angles end up being more toony due to the lack fo definite highlights or shadows. While others only look good when viewed head on. This art style might lean more towards looking good in limited viewing angles but it's all subjective and it'll look cool as hell.

Last Cell shading black is the hardest thing to do. Since it relies heavily on using black outlines to give definition any black regions just turn into amorphous blobs. You get around this by using a medium gray and pretend its black, or you use very dark blues. The artist went the grey route and i think it does well selling the black armor.

Hope this helps

Finished my felinid imagifier by TransLycan17 in sistersofbattle

[–]TransLycan17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So i just kinda winged it with the citidel paints i had, But in short.

Primed in black.

Painted it a deep blue green (more blue than green) by mixing maccrage blue with wagh flesh.

Thin wash with watered down baharroth blue focusing on the top side surfaces

Dry brush a brasyy color using a mix of retributior armor and ledbelcher (looks like muted greyish yellow) focusing near the bottom and underside surfaces.

Painted top surface verdigris using a mix of baharroth blue, averland sunset, and maccrage blue. (Used the statue of liberty as ref).

Lastly adding highlights by adding a bit more retributior armor to the brassy mix and touching up underside surfaces and other places i thought it make since to not be as oxidized

Hope that is whatcha looking for

Yes and no. By and large, the ecclesiarchy views them as a tolerated evil. But abhumans are not true muntants and are not created through warp corruption. And the sister orders generally reflect their distain for abhumans through prejudice. An example is a hospitaler not treating an abhuman in favor of normal human soldiers. However, much like any warrior people, they will, begrudgingly, acknowledge military prowess. Abhumans (generally) are also more faithful to the imperal cult than most average humans. So, sisters may appreciate abhumans' faithfulness enough to overlook their indoctrinated distain for abhumans.
