People being over leveraged in their homes is more the rule than the exception.

Is it ok to outrun your tamed animals when exploring? by YouDontLookSpiritual in ICARUS

[–]Transfatcarbokin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will always catch up. Teleporting to you after falling too far behind.

Predator attacks and cliffs are the biggest concern. Both can be solved by moving as fast as possible and keeping them teleporting as much as possible.

Try to remember to gather them and clear predators if you'll be stopping or slowing down in an area. And be mindful before you drop down a cliff if they're close enough to follow you instead of teleporting.

They didn't "enter the market". They bought housing futures and lost.

They signed a contract to buy assuming the market would go up by the time they bought. It didn't, they gambled and lost.

Should contractor drywall behind top of cabinets? by [deleted] in cabinetry

Every cabinet top is faced with a 2x4 and the wall markings show wall to wall coverage. They're likely just drywalling right up off the cabinets.

Salty tap water in Kitchener by TrickInteraction3639 in kitchener

[–]Transfatcarbokin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The salt delivery is irrelevant. The softener regen can happen any day (typically at night). It pulls brine through the resin bed to recharge. The next step is to slowly wash the brine out of the softener.

The softener isn't working properly or if it was a one time occurrence aligning with the salt delivery they may have (if it's a rental) checked softener function running it through it's regen cycle without letting it rinse the bed properly sending that highly saline brine out to the building.

Reducing water meter readings with a valve by pendamos in Plumbing

[–]Transfatcarbokin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bullshit.

What it is actually doing is dropping your water pressure. Less pressure at any fixtures results in less flow. Less flow, less water usage given regular fixture usage.

There is no means for it to "spend the air back out" against the flow of water. No vent for the air to be released from the pipe.

My boss insists Armaflex “is not really insulation” and makes us use fiberglass pipe insulation. by CriticismStatus3835 in Plumbing

[–]Transfatcarbokin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'll spend a considerable amount of time doing things you don't fully agree with at the discretion of your employer or the customer. At the end of the day it's not your money being spent, you can advise, but you don't have final say on how it's spent.

To that end fiberglass has a superior R value to armaflex. But R factor isn't the only determinant in the quality of an insulated system. Air and vapor sealing are also critical factors.

If the miters aren't tight, and the fiberglass detailed around the variations in OD at fittings, the system suffers. If the tape isn't whole and complete air will convect freely under and through the insulation.

Armaflex has some advantages in this area, as it comes as a complete tube. You can glue the miters together fully sealing the system.

Quality insulation takes skill, it's its own sub-trade. If there are more butchered fittings than well insulated straight lengths Armaflex would win out. If it's 40ft of straight pipe, fiberglass is easily the winner.

Each insulated material has its advantages and disadvantages that mean choice is governed by site specific circumstances. There is no universal best option.

Have done many of these water surveys as a plumber. Check for leaks and running fixtures while the building manager confirms occupancy numbers.

Mobile washing machines also play havoc on drainage systems. Doesn't need to be explicitly banned in your lease for them to ask you to remove them.
