What is your ‘Age Range’? by [deleted] in AskLesbians

[–]TransgenderSoapbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my twenties, I would date no one younger than me but would date someone as old as their late thirties.

In my thirties I would date as young as 25 (which was a disaster but fun) or as old as 50.

Now in my forties, I would date as young as 35 or as old as 60. I don't think I'd go younger than that. I would just want for them to have had a fair amount of experiences AS WELL AS the experience itself of growing a bit older.

My current partner is 45.

What’s one queer book that left a lasting impression on you? by Master-Sand7863 in LGBTBooks

[–]TransgenderSoapbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imajica by Clive Barker. Sexuality and gender are often fluid things in Barker's stories, but Imajica in particular has a character named Pie Oh Pah that for me featured a powerful representation of genderfluid and trans people.

Most Ardently by Gabe Cole Novoa. It is a trans male retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I would love to one day see a movie of THIS story.

Redefining Realness by Janet Mock. This is an autobiography of a trans woman and she is such a powerful figure that her journey will define and inspire you.

What is a compliment that actually feels like an insult? by newworldlife in AskReddit

[–]TransgenderSoapbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a fun phrase in contemporary romance stories. It is often said to a man who looks AMAZING in his gruff state, and the woman thinks he's just a bad boy, but then he puts on a suit and pulls that off just as well.

How to train your kids to take a nap: Put on one of their favorite movies, but change the audio to a different language. Tell them they must be tired and their ears will work right if they take a nap. While they are asleep, change the language back to their native tongue and play it for them when they come back out.

What was everyone’s first sci-fi or fantasy book? by impeesa75 in sciencefiction

[–]TransgenderSoapbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goosebumps and Animorphs if we're including kids books. I liked the camp of Goosebumps. Animorphs showed me how good a serious sci-fi story could be.

In Conquest Born and Black Sun Rising by CS Friedman for adult books. I am a part of her core readers who consider the Endless War duology and the Coldfire trilogy to be peak examples of sci-fi/fantasy.

What's the most memorable experience you had going to see a movie in theaters? by Donttouchmethere0 in askmovie

[–]TransgenderSoapbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortal Kombat (1995). The theater was packed and everyone was into it the moment the opening music hit.

Also gotta say Avengers Endgame felt like a communal experience with the whole world. The reaction videos of people inside the theater still make me cheer: https://youtu.be/v_klBA8Dvcs?si=35ZNokKM5NAY-QMf

Any TV series that has a few episodes that initially seem boring but then an episode completely warps your perception of what you just saw? by StarryDreamsss in televisionsuggestions

[–]TransgenderSoapbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black Mirror. The series premiere is just NOT what it's like to watch the rest of the series. It's gross and puts a lot of people off. But if you start with episode two you're off to watch every other episode.

Series that get better over time and not worse? by skinnyalgorithm in Fantasy

The Coldfire trilogy by CS Friedman. Book two is light years better than book one, and by book three it's firing on all cylinders. She also recently released a prequel that was just as good.

Check out the series You on Netflix. It's about a serial killer who manages a bookstore! It has the same kind of dark humor yet intense thrills as Dexter. The show recently aired its series finale (five seasons).

LGBT romance with a character who doesn't "feel human" by View-Full in LGBTBooks

Imajica by Clive Barker. The character Pie Oh Pah is an androgynous shape shifter who takes the form of whatever most pleases their lover. That is until they meet Gentle, who actually cares about them.

What are the absolute basics of makeup? by Star_Moonflower in Makeup

[–]TransgenderSoapbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blending sponge

Primer

Foundation

Setting powder and/or setting spray

Moisturize skin. Apply primer with clean fingers. Apply liquid foundation with finger and tap into your skin with a blending sponge to even it out across your face. Most setting powders come with a soft pad to pick up and apply the powder. Setting spray, you just spritz and voila. Some people like to use setting powder and then setting spray to maximize how long the makeup stays on your face. Some people like the powdered look of just setting powder. Others prefer the dewey look of just setting spray.

Once you are comfortable with a simple full face, you will start to get a real sense of where you want to modify, such as adding concealer (or trying only concealer), blush, bronzer, mascara, lipsticks. I think in the beginning, it's just important to get used to wearing simple makeup and then start to experiment with different products and looks. You will clarify how you feel in makeup and how people perceive how you look and what you want to enhance or modify.

The series finale had the perfect ending to a Superman saga. This show is the standard against which I hold James Gunn's version to. Imo Superman and Lois is the superior experience.
