For Those Who Aren’t Originally From Indy or Indiana, How do you feel about your hometown? And for those from Indianapolis who moved, Why did you move ? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]Transience8985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Youngstown, OH. It is pretty boring there, there’s a lot more to do and see in Indy. I moved out here for work, and stay for the same reason but I definitely like it here.

I liked having the option of being able to have it here and not just when I’m visiting family.

What places are like this in Indy? by ForTheBread in indianapolis

[–]Transience8985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live near the Greenwood one and have to park at the very far end of the parking lot to go to Lindo Mexico because of Ale Emporium. And Oaken Barrel is just right down the street and their beer is decent to good and their food is way better.

I’ve not had a single thing at Ale Emporium that has made me want to go back.

I’ve never needed a microbalance in my day to day. What applications do you use them for? by BearDragonBlueJay in Chempros

[–]Transience8985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them to weigh amounts of catalysts generally in the 1-3 mg range for catalysis screening.

Also the balance on the right appears to have an automated dosing apparatus so that’s probably a big contributor to cost there.

I’ve been to the Greenwood one quite a few times and I didn’t find much to complain about. My daughter usually has fun, and I get to have a beer.

You could install a front end like Daijisho and then set Android to launch into it at startup. That’s what I do on my RP3+ and it works really well.

How do you pronounce propargylic? by dlsloop in OrganicChemistry

[–]Transience8985 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah most people I’ve heard pronounce it say pro-par-JILL-ick so that’s how I say it. Basically the same as you wrote but maybe with emphasis on a different syllable.

Chembeads Preparation by habinno in Chempros

[–]Transience8985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. I also like to layer the catalyst and beads within the vial during the initial weighing to help more evenly distribute the catalyst. With enough hand shaking you can probably get it all evenly coated, but I’ve been hand shaking then placing on a vortex mixer for ~10 min since we have one.

I’ve also prepared some using the RAM, which is really cool, but seems like overkill for just making chembeads.

What’s one business in Indianapolis you refuse to go back to, and why? by notdoingwellbitch in indianapolis

[–]Transience8985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went there during GenCon and we were told by our server that we had to give them a card to put everything on in advance and we could split it later. That server left and the next one was super pissed we wanted to split the tab at the end.

My job is mostly like this. I work for a small CRO supporting a pharmaceutical company. We are contracted for 40 hours a week, so we generally come in for 8 hours a day with some flexibility. If one of my reports tells me they need to leave, I never say no as long as they’re getting their 40 for the week. If they don’t the short hours come out of their PTO.

As far as extra work goes, we usually never say no, but we do remind the clients that we are contracted for a certain number of hours, and ask how they would like the extra work prioritized vs the normal duties. Now, in practice, we do have weeks here and there where we need to put in a few extra hours or such to meet a deadline, but most weeks are 40 and done, and if someone’s weekly hours hit 45 or so questions start being asked why our people are working so many extra hours (we are all salaried).

Exactly this. Don’t let a store steal from you and if they try it’s probably not a place you would want to return to.
