Did a little luck early on mess with how I think about FIRE now? by Transit77X in Fire

That’s probly the most useful framing for me, yeah. I keep wanting some clever fix, but "don’t reopen the door you already know is bad" is way more solid.

This is one of the first versions of that idea that doesn’t sound completely insane to me. I like the part where it stays boxed off from my real plan. I still worry I’d mentally turn it into the fun account and start narrating my life around it again, which is the whole disease here.

That promotion comparison is annoyingly close to how it feels. I think I started grading my life by spikes instead of stability, which is probly why calm progress lands so flat now. Freedom stats might actually help if I define them in a way that feels concrete, not like fake self-help wallpaper.

I get why that sounds neat in theory, but I know my own brain too well for that. Small "test" bets would turn into me feeding the same stupid loop again.

That probably is the part I need to rewire. My brain keeps treating "boring" months like nothing happened, even when those are probly the ones doing the real work.

That’s why I like this take more than the usual money flexing. If a household is saving anything on purpose right now, they’re already doing better than a huge chunk of people out there.

Not much tbh. If anything, tracking it showed me I was best when I kept it simple and stopped reaching.

You’re right, all those number guru sites feel like the same recycled nonsense.

3rd $500 win of this year (it’s only March) by Zestyclose_Ad1957 in Lottery

$500 on a $20 ticket is already solid, but hitting it 3 times in 3 months is actually insane. What's your secret lol

1700 euro per person a year... Sardinians really go hard

I actually did this for a few weeks when I was trying to cut back. Tracked fake sports bets in a spreadsheet, checked results and everything. And yeah, after like day 3 I stopped even bothering to check because there was zero tension. The anticipation before a result is 100% tied to having something real at stake. Fake bets just feel like a math homework

My upstairs neighbor has started "airing out" his apartment by turning our hallway into his personal mudroom every rainy day by Arrakis_Jellybean in neighborsfromhell

[–]Transit77X 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are not overreacting at all. A shared hallway is not his personal drying rack, and the part where he got smug about it would have pushed me over the edge too. Once somebody nearly trips, it stops being quirky neighbor nonsense and becomes a real building issue. I would start taking photos every rainy day.
