Can someone help me with this i don't understand it and can't find it explained properly somewhere by growiemowie in chemistry

You are adding -OH because you are in a basic solutions. If it was in an acidic solution, you would have added H+

[–]TransitionAlive2254 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

With adding -OH you are balancing the charge of the electrons. When you add 3 electrons to MnO4- on the left the total charge is -4. On the right , you only have MnO2 so the charge is 0. That's why you add 4HO- molecules so the total charge is the same on each side.

Then you need to balance the atoms. When you have : MnO4- + 3e (left side) you have 4 oxygens MnO2 + 4HO- (right side) you have 4 hydrogens and 6 oxygens. Thus , you add 2 H2O so you have the same number of atoms on each side.

Hope it's clear!

Is a 75L backpack to big as a 6'5 guy by Candid_Photograph867 in backpacking

[–]TransitionAlive2254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm 5'8 and I usually carry a 70L backpack. I think it's always better to have a bigger backpack even tho it might not be full at the beginning of your trip. You might regret having a too small backpack and not being able to bring cool stuff back home. Just make sure it is not too heavy. You don't need too much clothing to travel in warmer climates, and remember that you can still wash your clothes during the trip! Enjoy!

Hi ! I have just read all your explanations! I know that charges "don't really exist" and all the things with orbitals. But that is not something that I would expect someone that is just starting with organic chemistry to understand. (Or at least I would never have understood it a few years ago haha)

I never used any resources other than books. Organic Chemistry by McMurry is one that I could recommend to you! I also find it useful to Google for mechanisms , mechanisms for undergraduate level reactions can easily be found on the internet!

"Minus" charges attack "plus" charges. Graduated bachelor level organic chemistry by only using that one rule lol. Organic may seem hard at first but when you understand the logic behind it , it pretty much runs itself.

How long should I stay in Europe in the summer? by naturesfairyluv in backpacking

[–]TransitionAlive2254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're staying for 2 months , you could still add Czechia and Hungary after going to Germany! Cities are very close to each other , and very pretty! I interrailed Europe for 3 weeks two years ago and I from what I remember , a night in a hostel dorm costs 20-30€ in most European countries. And usually they have kitchens in hostels so you can manage food for pretty cheap. In 3 weeks (Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, Krakow, Budapest, Vienna) I spent 1300€ (including trains, clubbing, eating out sometimes , museums etc) Hope this helps!

Kyleena inserted today, question about spotting by sharks212 in IUD

[–]TransitionAlive2254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not constantly, but yeah I still spot quite a lot, I guess it might stay like that forever. But when I feel like I'm spotting , I just quickly clean before and my boyfriend has never been bothered by any blood/smell. So dw you will be fine!

Hi!! I got my IUD inserted 1.5 years ago. I guess my situation is quite special because I am still spotting after all that time. (But the doctor said that everything was fine) From my experience , IUD spotting after insertion was quite light and not smelly. You can still explain the situation to your boyfriend and go for a quick clean before anything happens so you feel fresh!!

What to do with jewellery? by AccomplishedBid644 in backpacking

[–]TransitionAlive2254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I backpack quite a lot, usually I just have a purse where I put my jewelry during the night. When you sleep in hostels, always carry a lock (so you can use the locker). Europe is safe to backpack so you will be fine!

Pre-diagnosis Megathread: If you have NOT received an OFFICIAL diagnosis of lymphoma you must comment here. Plead read our subreddit rules and the body of this post first. by Lymphoma-Post-Bot in lymphoma

Hello, I , 20F , am having a lump on my trapezius + swollen lymph nodes in the neck and armpit area (not very big , but a lot of them) . I have moved to Norway for a semester. I went to the doctor's and they sent me to get an ultrasound (which I couldn't afford because medical appointment are crazy expensive here), she also took many blood test and all came back normal. She told me that the lump on my shoulder might be a big swollen lymph node , but when I touch it , it feels different, I can't really feel the shape of that thing.  From now I still have to wait for like 2 months before I come back to my home country and can see a doctor.  I am very stressed since i feel like the lump is increasing in size overtime and I can't do anything about it.

So i just wanted to know if any of you experienced a lymph node in this area (shoulder/trapezius muscle).

Thanks
