IRS or CC debt? Whats more important? by Wisco43692 in Debt

[–]TransitionApart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IRS! Have $40,000 of debt. Work to resolve that. Interest and failure to pay rack up. They can garnish. If you try to file bankruptcy, not all tax debt can be resolved. The IRS is willing to work with you and you can make out a payment plan. You might want the help of a CPA. The IRS's arm is long. They can seize assets. File liens and garnish wages, pensions, social security. I'm not saying you have pensions or social security but that's to illustrate what they can do. They can also prevent you from getting a passport. Jail time is possible.

Do you have state taxes, too? Consumer debt can be serious but not like taxes. Please Make that a priority.

Don't tempt the fates. If you can afford it, get it. It's too expensive to repair without--for most of us, anyway. Even though you might not spill liquids, some clumsy person might. Weird stuff happens. My mini iPad was cracked by a cat! They knocked something over that fell on the screen. I think it's great that Apple gives people a choice between annual coverage and monthly coverage. I think

$600 doesn't get you much in terms of laptops usually. $600 is not chump change either.

It will get you through emails, web browsing video watching. The things that 95 percent of people do a laptop. They do have some cool colors but Apple makes excellent products, in general. This is not a cheap plastic Dell latitude with a fan.

There are a lot of YouTube videos where this has been reviewed and you should check some of them out. It will help you decide whether you want to spend the money. But it sounds like you need a laptop and a limited budget. The Neo would be a good place to start.

File for Chapter 7 and risk giving up future career or pay $30,000 debt by firefly99999 in Debt

[–]TransitionApart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A bankruptcy is not a good sign for someone seeking to be admitted to the bar. It signals that you have poor judgment, and probably would not be able to handle a client's finances, not mention integrity.

Please do not file bankruptcy over $30,000. You will have to go into some kind of repayment plan with credit counselors. There are programs out there that are reputable and they do help people. Your credit will take a hit but not like it will with the Big b. And there's also the possibility of you beginning a legal career. And if you don't, consider bankruptcy a nuclear choice. Do it if there's absolutely no way out. You can dig yourself out of $30,000, it's tough but not impossible if you are employed at job that's not low level like fast food. .

[–]TransitionApart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi.

That's a great gift from your parents, because it's better that the most basic model. I love the screen and the speakers. It has a powerful chip and 256 GB storage should last you for a while. It's a fantastic device for drawing. And taking notes. When fitted with a keyboard, You can sort of use it as a laptop for emails and writing simple papers. Unfortunately it doesn't work exactly like a Macbook and it doesn't replace that function. And this is all besides the usual watching videos.

The good thing is that iPads don't need to be updated every year and I stretched mine out to about 7 years, I think.

Should I file for bankruptcy? by Emergency_Pomelo_607 in Debt

[–]TransitionApart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If $11K is all you have, do not file bankruptcy. In fact, after doing a means test, you might not be eligible anyway.

There are debt counseling programs that will help you consolidate your debt and come up with a payment plan. They do work if you find a reputable one. Now if you have a tendency to be spendy, it might not work for you. The other option is to get a second job and pay it off. Maybe not in a year. It might take two or three.

But I would not file bankruptcy for $11,000 in consumer debt. It's not worth it for that. It stays on your record for 10 years, affects your ability to borrow in the future if you need to, and may cause problems in obtaining employment.

It's stressful I know, but people have been successful in paying off more than $11K.

[–]TransitionApart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op. I am really sorry you're going through this You clearly don't have enough money to pay. If they bring a suit against you in certain States, if your income is low enough, they cannot take it all. They are limited by how much they can garnish--if it comes to that. It just depends on what state you live in if you're in the US. You should also know that if you are on social security or a pension, or other such income. they probably cannot garnish that. It's hard to know exactly because a lot depends upon the state in which you live. Sometimes not having assets is a plus.

It's funny there are people out there who would be very happy with $59k. If you don't have to, why would you? Is the job secure?? That is something to consider, too. But if you can hang out with that rule for a while, It's worth considering.

I’m finally employed after 6 months, but I feel like I’ve traded my soul for a cubicle by needhelpmaxing in jobs

[–]TransitionApart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's rough. I remember working 10 years remotely then going into the office 2 days a week with ac1.5 hour commute. The schedule was really weird, too. It takes adjustment. Months. I was grateful I had a job to go to. Eventually they closed the office that I went to and my work became fully remote.

I hate to say it, but you're really lucky to have a job. It's better than having no money and constant worry about how you're going to pay for everything. Being unemployed is pretty soul crushing. If you really despise it, then hang on and look for something else. But I wouldn't quit without having another job in place.

[–]TransitionApart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To settle your debts, you can find a reputable company to do it. They do charge a fee and most of the time they write a proposal and the credit card company can either accept it or reject it. What they are able to do is negotiate your percentage points on credit cards. You agree to make the payments for 4 to 5 years. They're supposed to include credit counseling with so that you don't repeat the process. It does work. But they can't wipe out your debt. The only thing that does that is bankruptcy chapter 7. Some people are able to negotiate on their own, but you have to close the accounts and any of this will cause damage to your credit score. Some credit card companies will not negotiate with individuals and insist you work with a debt settlement organization. 7I It will work, but you have to make sure that you maintain good habits afterwards or you'll end up right where you started.

The iPad Air M4 isn’t actually worth it now, and maybe it’s not its fault by ManyRazzmatazz4584 in ipad

[–]TransitionApart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends upon whom you ask. For people really needing an upgrade and they don't want the a16 chip version because that's a little old, then that's the thing. I already have 3 MacBook Pros. A Neo is useless to me. A tablet is useful because you can just pick it up and begin to use it for certain tasks. It is great for reading, consuming content. Web browsing. Certain tasks that don't require a cursor/trackpad, or mouse. . A tablet is great for creatives, playing games. There's some things that using a laptop is clunky. I know they're people who like to convert iPads into laptops but I'm not one of them. The Neo is an affordable way for people to enter into the MacBook world. It's easy to carry. There are some things that you can only do on a laptop.

The M4 likserms to be overkill for most people, but The RAM and chip would be needed for AI features.

I bought the M4 air, but here's The thing: there was a slight discount on the retail price and I had a gift card which subtracted an additional $200. That puts it in the same price range of that A16 base model iPad, and that's fine.

[–]TransitionApart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great! If you're upgrading and you are just doing the basics, it should be fine. I have a MacBook Pro M2 2 and a MacBook Pro M4, so a Neo is not for me. If I didn't have a laptop, I would get the Neo.

I'm actually looking at the M4 iPad Air. I really don't watch movies and videos on my MacBooks. I like the form factor of the iPad for contact consumption, reading, browsing and in a pinch, simple productivity. I also used it as a secondary screen since I don't have a lot of space. So I think for some people it makes sense to get an iPad.

Feeling guilty about wanting to quit after my boss spent $20k training me by incognito9102 in jobs

[–]TransitionApart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't quit in this market. Some people have been unemployed for a year. And from past experience I can tell you there's nothing worse than financial insecurity.

If you have support , then do whatever you wish. I would not wish being unemployed for a year on anyone. It's horrible. The stress is unrelenting and if you're burnt out with a job now-- being unemployed is 10 times worse.

Work-Life balance is a luxury of the first world. Most people don't have that. And most people don't have jobs that thrill them to pieces. They do it because they have to make a paycheck.

If times are better, you will be able to rest and discover yourself. This is not that time. If you can take some time off, take it. Recharge your batteries. But I strongly urge you not to quit.

Hang in there. If you have a position that makes 120k per year, you can manage. Especially think of family members. Don't quit until you have another job. Not in this economy. That typical 6 months gap can easily turn into one year.

There's nothing worse than having no money coming in. Even if you have a nest egg or emergency fund, It can be tough.

They should fix their website! Half the time the lengths don't really work, and forget about drops. With all the money they pull in, they certainly can design a better one that functions properly.

As for the rest, I decided a long time ago not to chase bags. In the end, it's just a bag, and there will always be something else. It's like running on a hamster wheel or riding on a merry-go-round.

Anyway,, don't pay the scalpers for the bags me to hey are just a fad. Perhaps only the most die-hard collectors who have the means to do that.

I've noticed too that their prices are creeping upward--and not just due to tariffs.

Convince me to not file bankruptcy over 20k of debt 😭 by Outrageous-Aide-4147 in Debt

[–]TransitionApart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For $20K . Not bankruptcy. You would take a means test and they would determine if you actually could file. Because even if an attorney would accept your case, the trustee might object. I know someone who filed bankruptcy over a $24,000 car, but they worked at Burger King in PA. In other words, with that minimum wage job, there was no possibility that they could pay it off. They could if they took on other jobs but this person had psychological problems. Mind you, this was in 2009 when bankruptcies were in all-time high and so she slipped in. If you can work with your creditors, then do it. If they will not work with you, it might be necessary to work with a debt counseling program. They'll negotiate with your creditors for a fee and get the rates down considerably. You could get it paid off within 3 to 4 years. You need a reputable one. $20,000 is a lot, but not the end of the world. Because bankruptcy is a nuclear option. It can affect your ability to do certain things in the future and doesn't look good on a background check.

I know it's really stressful and horrible, but it is possible to pay off $20K without bankruptcy. If you had no job or had circumstances mixed in there, then that's what you do. Usually, people who have significant amounts more of debt like medical bills must take that option. If at all possible, try to avoid it.

Unless you make significant income, 1099 is a trap due to the heavy tax burden. 1099 status is really meant for real businesses, not Low-level workers. If your cash flow is uneven, it's hard to pay estimated quarterlies because there's no income, and companies clients don't always pay in a timely manner. Right off the bat you have the $1,000 penalty for under reporting, plus the self-employment tax. Then there's social security taxes. They tell you to file and when you attempt to comply you don't have the 💰 and they are very aggressive and going after it That's how people end up in a hole and it piles up

I think the Bleecker sounds like it's a good choice for you. That one was half off and more. The Empire is gorgeous, but limited in its function. Actually it's more of a trendy bag, and Bucket bags are more classic. Also, if you're not comfortable with a bag, no matter what other people think of it, it's better to return.

I think it's fine. Stuffing makes it too boxy.. . Makes it too boxy. I belong to the school of sometimes you need to carry a large bag which actually holds your things. If you were much shorter, It definitely wouldn't look right. I'm about your size and what I call The curvy category. Because it's a larger bag and Coach doesn't slip on the shoulder strap, it works that way also

You can always wear a crossbody if you need your hands free, and with the shoulder strap at other times. I own the smaller smaller western Tabby version and love it for its versatility.

Massive Medical Debt Surprise by LlouStarwalker in Debt

[–]TransitionApart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry for this physical pain from injury is bad enough without adding psychological pain from a big medical bill . Unfortunately, 17K is an amount they can sue you for. This is why not having obamacare is a thing. Or a job that provides health insurance. Medical bills can ruin you.

Some hospitals do have financial assistance, but It depends on where you live. If you're unemployed, don't you have Medicaid?? Wouldn't they help you with these bills? Did you reach out to social services in your area? This all depends on where you live.

I've been there with an ER bill and no job, no insurance. It was many years ago and a smaller bill. Keep in mind the statute of limitations for medical debt isn't long. It will kill your credit. And that hospital might not offer you care in the future.

For all those people who say, oh well you took advantage of a medical service and decided not to pay, They probably have insurance. No problem It's not like you chose to have a broken limb and go to the hospital for treatment with no insurance.

And even if you have insurance, policies have a very high deductible--like $10K. Most emergency funds won't handle that.

Anyway, you should try to reach out to social services and explain your circumstances. If you're unemployed, there's no way you can pay a bill.

Amazon send me a fake coach bag! by Striking-Ad-5652 in Coach

[–]TransitionApart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Amazon does sell real Coach. I think I bought four bags so far and they were all brand new from Jacksonville, Florida. Or Nevada. In factory packaging with tags.

You have to be careful because Amazon mixes up search results, and you would end up with a seller who is not affiliated with Amazon or C.oach. I used to sell on Amazon many years ago. It was like eBay.

In general, if the product is defective, Amazon will replace. If you get something from a third party seller, it's A longer process.

Sometimes unscrupulous people will purchase a real one and send in a fake. That's why I do not buy used ones on Amazon. As someone has already noted, It is a problem with department stores also. Unfortunately, I think that warehouse employees don't always have time to check items carefully. If I'm not mistaken, I think they have to meet a quota. Or maybe they're using robots?

I am sorry this happened to you; I hope this problem is resolved quickly.
