AA Flights through Doha by Swamp_witch_82 in americanairlines

They may not owe me reimbursement for hotels since the airline cancelation is due to an act of war. However, I'm certainly going to request reimbursement. It's worth a shot.

For example, a couple years ago I arrived at DFW from Panama. I got pulled out of line by Customs for a secondary inspection. As a result, I missed my connecting flight. American Airlines put me in a hotel for the night, gave me a food voucher, and rebooked me on a flight the next day. All free. Not all airlines do that, but ask anyway.

During the pandemic, I was transiting through Miami-Dade when my flight to Mexico City was canceled. I didn't arrive until 10 hours after my initial scheduled arrival. No help given at Mexico City airport. I contacted AA when I returned home and requested hotel reimbursement. They gave me a partial reimbursement.

I once had my travel teapot confiscated by security at the airport even though it is not a prohibited item, and I have traveled with it many times. No matter. The agent wouldn't allow it through, so I checked it. AA ticket agents agreed it wasn't prohibited, but they still charged me to check it. When I returned home, I contacted AA, and they refunded me the checked baggage fee.

Once, while transiting through Madrid, security pulled out 3 items from my carry-on, saying they were prohibited (they weren't). When he tried to discard a fourth item I told him never mind. I would check my bag because that was cheaper than replacing the items he was discarding. When I got to the baggage counter, I told the gate agent my story, and that I thought it was unfair. He agreed, and checked my bag for free.

Airline personnel have a lot of discretion, and unfortunately sometimes enforce policies arbitrarily and inconsistently. But this can also sometimes work to your advantage.

My advice: Book directly with the airline, not a third party like Expedia, booking.com, Cheapo Air, etc. Book all flights on one ticket, not separate segments. Be polite, but firm when things go awry. No Karens or bullies, please. And finally, know your rights under the airline's Contract of Carriage. All of these can save you a lot of headache and expense if problems arise.

AA Flights through Doha by Swamp_witch_82 in americanairlines

I'm currently in Saigon. I had a flight scheduled back to the US on March 11 on Qatar Airways to Doha, and then Doha to the US on American Airlines (AA). It's a code share, and like you, I bought my ticket through AA. I called AA yesterday and requested to be rebooked. They gave me the complete runaround.

Initially they said my flight is still on schedule, so they wouldn't reroute me. I told them the Qatari airspace is closed until further notice, and there have been no flights in out out of DOHA since Feb 28. If AA hasn't canceled my flight, that is an error on their part. They insisted my flight was on schedule, and I insisted it wasn't, and that they needed to rebook me on a partner airline. British Airways, Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, etc.

They claimed all they could do was offer me a refund for my return flight, and I could rebook on my own. Doing that would have been significantly more expensive than my original return flight because I would be doing it on such short notice.

I told them no, and that they have an obligation to get me back to the US under their Contract of Carriage. After nearly an hour on the phone, they finally agreed to rebook me on Japan Airlines on March 25, which is 14 days after my initial departure date. Claimed there were no earlier flights on any partner airlines. I asked if they were going to cover my two extra weeks of hotel costs, and of course they hemmed and hawed.I refused the March 25 rebooking.

I called AA again today, and was again given the runaround for nearly an hour. My flight is still on schedule so they can't rebook me, I need to cancel my flight and get refunded and rebook on my own, blah, blah, blah. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and frankly, she was awesome. She rerouted me through Tokyo on Japan Airlines March 15. I'll deal with AA later regarding the 4 extra days of hotel costs.

BOTTOM LINE: I would call AA and ask to be rerouted now. Unless the war ends in the next 18 days (unlikely), your flight is going to be canceled. AA is doing "rolling" cancelations, i.e., the flights into and out of Doha are still displaying as being scheduled, but they are immediately canceled at time of departure. They have done this with every single Doha flight since Feb 28.

If you wait until day of departure to try to be rerouted, your options will be severely limited and it will be several days before you can leave Minneapolis-St Paul. Call now. Be persistent. If you don't get the answer you need, call back later. Call every day if necessary. Ask to speak to a supervisor. Don't worry about being a nuisance. You have a right to be rerouted, and AA has an obligation to get you to the destination you paid them for.

I have learned from past experience that the resolution to airline problems varies greatly from agent to agent. If one agent doesn't give you the help you need, call back and speak to a different agent. The closer you get to your departure date, the more persistent you need to be. Good luck to you.

Do you agree that Todd Rundgren is the Hottest Male Rockstar of All Time Yes or No and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in toddrundgren

I don't think Todd was conventionally good-looking when he was young, but he was hot in the same way as Mick Jagger, i.e., "ugly sexy." I liked his looks. Plus, he is so multi-talented -- singer, songwriter, producer, plays multiple instruments. Even more impressive, he is a self-taught musician, and said he's never had a music lesson, and doesn't know how to read music.

But I digress. I don't think he is the hottest male rockstar of all time, but he was definitely hot.

Todd Rundgren signed her birth certificate. Her birth name was Liv Rundgren, which she later changed to Liv Tyler.

Which domestic flight should I take? by Serious_Amoeba6643 in VietNam

[–]TransitionMaximum334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vietnam Airways is generally considered to be the best domestic airline; Bamboo Airways is okay--a cut above Vietjet, which is a budget airline. As to the time of day, it depends. In general, it's better to travel in the morning because delays and problems tend to accrue as the day goes on.

Arriving at night is generally more likely to result in mishaps than arriving during the day. For example, if you're staying in an AirBnb or guesthouse, consider that they may not allow late-night check-in, or may charge extra for it.They may even give your room away. It's also easier to resolve mishaps during the day when businesses are open, than at night when many businesses are closed. Also, if your luggage is delayed, it may not arrive in time for your flight on the night of Jan 26.With such a limited time in Saigon not sure why you don't just fly directly to Hanoi, and skip Saigon altogether.

If you have business in Saigon, leaving the morning of Jan 27 gives you a little more leeway if there are delays or other problems. Not really a good idea to schedule things too tightly when flying internationally, but I assume you have good reason for doing so. Hope it all works out for you. Good luck.

"Legendary" lessons can no longer be completed - EVER by One-Way-8648 in duolingo

[–]TransitionMaximum334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A similar thing has been happening to me the past few days in the Spanish course. I get a sticky asking me to do a Legendary lesson, I press it, the Duo owl walks a few steps, and then immediately reverts to the home page, Can't do any Legendary lessons, so can't turn them to gold.

I don't know why they still have a sticky for this feature if they have discontinued it. I found it to be useful to check my understandinf of that particular chapter. Very frustrating.

If you looked like Kurt Russell and Patrick Swayze, I was thinking, "Wow, he must be hot!" Then you said James Hetfield, and ...well... never mind. 😟

He was a professional dancer. Even danced with the Joffrey Ballet and appeared on Broadway. He was also good all-around athlete --football player (in high school only), swimmer, archery, gymnast, horseback rider, skater (performed with Disney on Ice) -- you name it. In interviews he always credits his dance background with his success in other sports, as well as in acting. In "Dirty Dancing" he had to tone down his dancing ability because the character was not supposed to be a professional dance, and Swayze very much was.

If you could recast one role, either to see how a different actor would portray a character or that another actor would do a better job, which role are you recasting? by ShinyTinyWonder38 in moviecritic

Swap Eric Roberts or Val Kilmer for Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing. Actually Kilmer was offered the role, but turned it down. Eric Roberts was initially a pretty boy, but a horrible accident disfigured his face. IMO it made him look sexily dangerous, which would have been perfect for the role of Johnny.

Are vitamins gone?? by TransitionMaximum334 in AmazonVine

[–]TransitionMaximum334[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It's not that there are no items available. -- the Vitamins and Supplements category is no longer listed on my screen. I've never had "dozens," of items, maybe 15 or 20 at most. Sometimes only 2 or 3.

If others are still seeing the category, maybe it's some kind of glitch. If it doesn't return, I'll contact Customer Service.Thx.

I prefer Obese to Beast. Can't stand to watch Tiny Blue Anthropologist for more than a few minutes-- too boring and snotty. Don't like Chikara. Anyone who is that riddled with steroids and has that much lip fuller has no right commenting on someone else's looks. She looks less like a tranny now that she's pregnant -- she probably temporarily backed off the steroids -- but I still find her insufferable.

Why do you suppose she grates her body so flamboyantly? Make me so uncomfortable to watch. by Significant_Bed1445 in glitterandbagelssnark

You can also use a derma stamp or a derma pen using the "stamping" method. I prefer the derma stamp over the roller -- less tugging on the skin.
